We could turn the spider legs into wing-less wings. (Like you see in Deth Metal covers & the like.) Or maybe make them into actual wings.

Of course, being underground with low ceilings, flight isn't exactly the best evolutionary idea. But then again, laser eyes isn't going to win any awards either.

I am suprised that we haven't run into anything else that semi-intelligent. I'd like a 1-1 battle with a sloth thing. C'mon, give us something to kill.

Only until you run into a planet with battle cruisers. Then you'll be happy we have turbo laser eyes to shoot them with before/while eating their planet.
