Motivational posters CAN be funny, but they ruin perfectly funny pictures by adding the captions for no reason. To wit:

And now they're so overused that most of the ones that would actually be funnier with captions aren't funny anymore. Its been ruined.

I just had an odd thought, and nowhere to put it. It just suddenly struck me that the character Calvin (Calvin & Hobbes, duh) seems like what the Doctor must have been like as a child.
