That's a lot of options.....
if it were FF4 and one of the three characters was Dragoon and White Mage they could meet up with Kain and Rosa and that might be interesting ![]()

As I said, if it's possible to allow three options to be checked, it would be more manageable, but then you'd have to count every last character.

Incredible finale, and great artwork. I loved all of the Easter eggs and cameos, especially having Bard not appear in the scene with Fighter and Black Mage.

I agree about the characters in FF3 being exchangeable. However, is the story compelling? Not so much.
However, the story to FF1 was convoluted, at best, and look how interesting Brian made it. Personally, I'd rather not have the stories of FF4 or FF6 tampered with. Maybe taking one of the less popular FF games WOULD be the best bet, because it'd leave more room for artistic license, and more room to make something out of a lackluster original plot.

All (most?) other FFs after it are much more story and character heavy, and so would in no way work as well. For Brian to have the same creative freedom to keep a similar 'feel' to 8-bit, he would have to strip away all the story and charcterisation, at which point he might as well have created something from scratch, which would have the added benefit of being more creatively fulfilling and more likely to attract the elusive profit without any legal grey-areas. Tl;dr: I'm not convinced any other FF would work in the same way 8-bit did.

I do not want to see how Brian would pull off an FFXIII spinoff.
The story was already messed up with spoiler |

I thought Final Fantasy Legends 2 was the hardest FF-based game there was.. Maybe around NES FF1 level in terms of difficulty, though I managed to beat FF1 for NES and didn't beat FFL2 so maybe it actually IS harder. I think the fact your weapons and armor dull and eventually BREAK really is fucking annoying.
What about Final Fantasy Adventure? ![]()

A bit late to the party, but I'd vote for FF4. With Kain as a Thief-like character who's actually quite conscious about what he's doing, and stringing Cecil along the whole time by cleverly turning his head down and to the side when he confesses his evil plans.
