This Santorum/Catholic anti-birth control/Obamacare thing is the dumbest controversy to come out of this shit recently (in a myriad shitstorm of shit). It's so astoundingly stupid how these people cannot reason at all.
Basically, the government is making it so that if you own a university, business, hospital, etc. you have to provide your employees with health insurance that includes birth control. So of course Catholics are complaining that they will have to pay for birth control (in like, the most roundabout way possible does this mean that, but anyway), in that they are providing their employees with insurance that includes birth control. Keep in mind that nothing says that they themselves have to use birth control, just that their employees have to have the option of having it covered on their insurance. So already it is stupid. BUT churches are already exempt, and that's all that should be exempt. Just because your religion disagrees with birth control doesn't mean we have to kowtow to your demands when you open a business, university, or hospital. THOSE ARE NOT RELIGIOUS THINGS. YOU JUST MAKE TRY TO MAKE THEM THAT WAY. If you don't want the government overseeing how you run your business, DON'T RUN A BUSINESS. It's so simple to understand why this argument is idiotic. Let's say I wanted to drive a car. To drive a car, you have to buy car insurance. Well, let's say my religion prohibits me from buying car insurance. Should the government let me drive a car without insurance just because, or should I just not drive a car? Or let's say my religion prohibits me from paying taxes. Should I be able to have a job without paying taxes? Or should I just not be able to have a job? This is essentially the same argument being made. If you don't want to buy your employees health insurance because it has to include birth control, DON'T HAVE EMPLOYEES. DON'T HAVE A BUSINESS. DON'T HAVE A RELIGIOUS UNIVERSITY. DON'T HAVE A RELIGIOUS HOSPITAL (not even sure what the hell that even IS since none of the treatments are religious treatments or whatever but anyway). Nowhere in the bible does it say you, as a Catholic, have to own a business. So if you're not willing to provide the things the government says you have to provide to your employees, then don't bother having one. Religious freedom doesn't give you carte blanche to avoid all government regulation. If it did, I wouldn't be paying any taxes because taxes are against my religion of Not-Paying-Taxism. Religious freedom means churches are exempt, because they are non-profits and houses of worship. It doesn't mean your business is exempt because you happen to be Catholic, or your university is exempt because it is a Catholic university. THOSE ARE NOT CHURCHES.

Like last I checked nobody's requiring Catholic business owners to take birth control.
Someone should ask them what they think of paying their employees money, which those employees then in all likelihood spend on things their employers disapprove of??????? Whoa I know guys, it happens.

It is one of the not-often talked about books of the Bible. In fact, if you had ever had chance to read a little of it, you would think that Jesus was actually against the Self-Righteous. Our mistake!

So Obama solved this birth control thing in either the dumbest or the smartest way possible (not sure yet): signed an executive order that insurance companies that provide insurance policies to Catholic businesses, hospitals, universities, etc. MUST provide birth control in whatever plans made available to these institutions, FREE OF CHARGE. So this way they do not have to pay for birth control.
Presumably the insurance companies will just raise the price of the rest of the policy to make up the difference or something, or just eat the cost since they will still make money hand over fist on the rest of the policy. Of course now even though these Catholic owners are no longer going to, technically, be forced to pay for birth control they are still complaining because like, this totally ruined even the incredibly dumb argument they were making, so now they have no leg to stand on at all. EDIT Quote:
But anyway I think halfway through his incredibly dumb statement something in the back of his head went off where he was like "Wow this is an incredibly dumb argument I am making, since soldiers already go out of their way to save each other in combat, am I really implying that they will somehow be trying harder to save female soldiers than they already are to save their male soldier friends, am I really being this retarded" and so he kind of meandered off into "well of course this already happens in combat but like, it might be worse. Or better, I mean. since that is a good thing, that they are protecting each other. And uh, hey, did you notice I'm copying Romney's thing of not wearing a tie now? Why did I drop my sweater vest gimmick, anyway? My neck is nowhere near as flattering as Romney's, maybe I should button this shit back up."

Fox has decided to drop Judge Napolitano's show. It's the only show that you'll see things like this:
In other words, the only person that has decided to question mainstream politics as an actual Libertarian conservative seems to have been called to reign in his "rhetoric" and fall in line with the new Conservative agenda. |
