References aside, I guess I generally gravitate away from alcohol. This is less stuck-upness on my part and more the fact that I like my brain the way it is, thank you very much. I know what that stuff does to the way you think and it's a lot more disquieting when you see it as a detailed process. But I could certainly imagine a friend or seven (including 2 guys) who'd behave in a similar manner as described in OP.

Yeah, that seems more than a little unprofessional. Hopefully her bosses can see that she was just blowing off steam or this could hurt her in the end.

Seriously. if this seems unprofessional to you, you should totally come down Calgary for my works Christmas party because what she did is really tame.

The best is the VP secretary who trys to get in everyones pants, and she's like 50(thought she looks 60) and married and the husband is with her :/. And then there's the plant floor workers who well, lets just say they take it up a notch! The plant floor foreman are worse then the workers half the time.

Then again every company christmas part Ive been at in Calgary gets out of hand.

Which I think is what's dangerous about it - It provides a false sense of security. I mean yes in theory if your boss puts on a party and says or even implies 'hey go nuts its not a work function and it won't effect your job' then you should be able to do whatever you want within reason. But in reality you are still surrounded by the people you work with who are no doubt from vastly disparate backgrounds and depending on your behavior may end up with vastly disparate opinions of you. If your boss didn't like something you said or did at a company party, you are basically putting your faith in the the idea that they will be able to separate your performance at work from that. Which would be nice but I wouldn't risk my job over it.

Whether that's fair or not, it's simply unavoidable.

See, that's why I like my area I live in, the bosses are just as likely to get tanked as you are. The bosses that wont, they leave before 8pm so that people can go nuts. It's great!

Besides there is an unwritten rule here, as long as no one gets killed or raped, What happens at the christmas party stays at the christmas party.

I'm glad to hear there's a provision for rape and murder. Lord knows people often get drunk enough to rape and murder at Christmas parties.

I kid, but seriously, as few Xmas parties as I've been to, people have generally shown at least marginal restraint when drinking, even the 20-somethings. Rule of thumb: you can get blind drunk on your own time. When in front of your co-workers and bosses, you stay sober enough to not get yourself put on the shit list. :p
