I did a lot of posting on here as a teenager, and I was pretty awful. I actually disagree with this particular sentiment because I think a couple more seasons of Firefly might've lessened the blow of losing said character. Serenity felt like they were trying to rush several seasons worth of character development and storylines into a single movie, it might not have felt like such a failure in that endeavor if we spent several more seasons getting to know the characters before all hell broke loose. As is, we only spent one season with the Crew, so it felt way too soon to start killing folks off.

Actually, Whedon has flat out said that if he'd been able to tell the story in a tv series then said character wouldn't have died. That was a movie thing. A movie thing that broke all our hearts.

Also Serenity's main sin isn't really trying to cram in character arcs, it's pushing aside actual characterisation and stuff that had already been established to make it easier for someone who hadn't seen the movie to understand. Like the stuff between Mal and Simon at the start was all way off. I just finished a firefly/serenity marathon with some friends and I was surprised just how different the movie felt. I'm glad we got some closure, but wow it would have been so much better on tv.

Well if there's one good thing to come out of this thread (and on the subject of shows that were cancelled way too soon), Mauves heresy on not watching Young Justice made me want to go back watch that again over the weekend.

Damn it. I mean, while I figured the odds of totally avoiding spoilers for a fourteen-year-old series were pretty low, I was really hoping you could make it though the show at least without your experience being tinted by the movie. :/

That's what I mean though - Because the movie exists, they squandered all of the possible interesting material. It sucked the show dry, in a completely unsatisfying way.

Also Young Justice is amazing why haven't you watched it yet?

That goes double for Snake to whom I recommended it awhile ago.

I would've felt more betrayed (spoilers getting spoiled by my own family, in my own house), but my dad is also the one who immediately blurted out "Oh hey, isn't that the guy who ends up being Moriarty?" the first time I watched that episode of Sherlock. So I should really be more used to this.

Because Gravity Falls and Firefly. They did have Young Justice at the cheap DVD place, so maybe I'll pick that up next time I'm in there.

It'll be so nice if/when I can have internet fast enough to support Netflix. Probably more budget-friendly, too.

Clearly the only answer is to get a nerf gun and if your dad ever walks in while you're watching a show you bombard him with nerf darts until he leaves without spoiling anything.
