Okay, quick pokemon question:
So I'm rather new to this whole "pokemon get'n it on" thing as I've only just recently decided to begin joining the rest of you in the 21st century of pokemon gaming. I have acquired a copy of Fire Red to help aclimate me to the new fangled ways you kids play pokemon these days and, having trounced the Elite Four and begun the bonus content of the Sevii Islands, I have come across the Daycare Center/Pokemon Sex Pit. Now, I've looked up some breeding info on Bulbapedia and think for my first try I'm going to see if I can't churn out a Pikachu with Volt Tackle. My question is not with the breeding because that seems very straight forward. I'd just like some opinions on evolving the little shock-runt. As a product of early exposure to Ash, his Pikachu, and the power of non-evolved-love-hippy-crap, I've always found it near impossible to evolve the Pikachu that eats up the electric-type slot on my roster. Granted in the first Gen games this was hardly an issue but I guess they fixed the buggy combat system since then so now I need to know: when's the best time/level to apply the Thunder Stone? Is there a reason to let your electric rat stay cute and small forever? |

I'll admit, all I know about that is if you have a Pikachu (and only Pikachu I think) hold a Light Ball and breed it, the offspring will know Volt Tackle.

However good luck getting one, they have like a 5% appearance rate on pikachu's, which also have a 5% appearance rate....... Edit: It doubles both it's attack stats. Basically making the little rodent really good at quickly tearing shit up, then dying as soon as something faster or able to survive it's first attack comes along.

Well I'm going to have to get a Light Ball to make a baby Pichu learn Volt Tackle anyway. What I want to know is, if that baby grows up into a Pikachu and I let it keep the Light Ball, is it technically better than a Raichu or do I need to evolve it at some point?
EDIT: Also Pikachu are like a 25% mob in the Power Plant so I'm not too worried about finding a breed sample there.

Doublepost because it seems I really do have a breeding question now:
Gave up on the Pikachu breeding program after catching about 120 Pikachu without a single Light Ball. Decided to work on some evolutions and it turns out that Swinub's evolution to Mamoswine only happens when it knows Ancient Power. According to Bulbapedia Swinub only get Ancient Power as a result of breeding with a host of pokemon including: Diglett, Dugtrio, Wooper, Quagsire, Dunsparce, Phanpy, Donphan, Mawile, Numel, Camerupt, and Kecleon. After looking through my Pokeboxes it seems I only had a male Dugtrio to get it on with my breeder so I tossed them into the Day Care and let them do their thing. I got an egg and walked around until it hatched and now I've got a little furry pig with Dig and not Ancient Power like it was supposed to. What exactly am I doing wrong here? Dig isn't even on Swinub's breed list. I took out the Dugtrio and tossed in a Wooper to hope for a better result maybe. It was the only other male on the list that I had on hand. |

Even easier: Take Swinub to the move tutor and have him make it remember AncientPower, then level it up.
Also, I think I have a light ball I might not be using. Or I could get one. 's not that hard for me.

Are you still playing FireRed? Because I'd give up now since Mamoswine doesn't exist in the generation three games of which FireRed is apart of.
If you're playing the generation four games however, then I found it a lot easier to simply evolve Swinub into Piloswine, then go find some heart scales and the guy that can teach a pokemon any move that they learn by level up. Since Piloswine learns ancient power at level 1, you can teach it that way. This is the easiest way that I've found to get a Mamoswine. |

Would anyone be interested later tonight in trading my Kadabra to make it evolve to Allakazam?
