Renny watched with shock and regret as somehow the soldier he attacked survived the blow he had inflicted and then flashbanged Lola in retaliation. Then the squad leader and his team turned on him in a combined offensive. He bit his lips as he braced himself for the vicious attack.
"Aaahhh-ggghhh. It hurts so badly!" Togekiss also went down after a beating, Renny instantly recalling the pokemon, still raw with disbelief from the pain as he instantly sympathized with his team-mate and pokemons who always stood on the front line. Then those wretches darted toward him as he tried to fight them off, but they bit hard with those poisonous manibles. The sensation felt horrible, but quickly faded away as the surging energy of the paradigm shift burned away at the toxin practically as soon as it entered the bloodstream. But the bite wounds coming in and tearing out hurted all the same. When the onslaught was over, Renny instinctively reached for the pokemon he felt could withstand their combined attacks the most. "Mollesk, we need your support!" The armored tentacle pokemon came out with glittering sparkles off its blue shell as it listlessly looked at the opposing force with a oblivious and quizzical expression. Moll? "Keep attacking! Finish off their healers, focus on the strong attackers. Take out the evoliths. We have to neutralize their attackers before too many wretches appear. I know we're hurt, but we have to power through this turn." "... I don't think I can last any longer like this. If we don't reduce their effectiveness, they'll swamp us. We can put them at bay with Reflect and I can heal us in the process. It would reduce their effectiveness as if their numbers were cut in half. Also, even if we power through them, we still got that ruin general and the Prideguard trying to fight him on the other side!" Renny looked toward Impact as if trying to get him to change his mind. He also looked toward Whitney and Lola, both worried for their safety and hoping that they might agree with him and support the appeal. -------------------- Possible battle plan alteration: Impact: CCC and use Flamethrower to hit Thunder Evolith B. "Pike wake up! Hammond what are you doing! NO NO NO!" The just and prudent leaser of the team seemed to be having something of a small meltdown as her hound fell and the dinosaur betrayed her.
"Hammond I swear to God if you don't come back here right now I will take you behind the shed and blow your fucking brains out personally the moment this mission is over!" Her threat surprisingly carried no sway over the revived fossil. Charlotte was seriously thrown off track at this. Violence usually makes them do precisely what is needed. She let out a shrill cry of anger before pressing her palms to her temples and silencing. "Think think think," she spoke softly to herself as she closed her eyes. "Alright," she said with a deep breath, "Matt, get out. Cecilia you're turn in. Mio, you're up to bate, make me proud. Melanie, you can shift to Honchkrow right? Do that. Then heal yourself and Kirie, and revive the fucking fire god dog. Mio, shift to... Rainker? Fuck if I know, just shift and use Cluster Fall, paradigm shift after that. Kirie, just wreck their shit. Be sure to have fun with it." Once Charlotte, was done, she took a few steps back and allowed Mio to take position. She had to keep herself together. If she broke, then they would to. What if she saw that breakdown? That's far from something a leader would do in a combat situation. --- Melanie: Shift to Honchrow form for immunity to psychic type (and avoiding 2 quad weaknesses) Spends 75 of her 80 rage to use 5 items. 2 healing items on herself and on Kyrie (Heal the two up to full), and 1 revive on Entei (which also gives Kyrie 25 rage for being a leader). Charlotte: Switch with Mio. Mio: Shifter to Raikner Form. Use "Cluster Fall" to hit 4 random targets. (100 Pwr x 2, 4 Foes (Random), Ruin) Paradigm Shift after gaining rage from the attack. Kyrie: Spends her 50 rage to use Endless Waltz on "Psyshade Charlotte" for 500 power with whatever damage is super effective (Probably Bug/Ghost/Dark). Matt: Switch with his enforcer. Cecilia: Spends 50 rage to use Great Escape. Is Invincible for 3 turns. Attack Psyshade Charlotte. If she is knocked out, target Psyshade Kyrie. If both are knocked out, target Psyshade Matthias. Use the weapon "Murder of Crows" with any of these. |

The Not-So-Secret Origin of Pierce Granger
As he ran through the halls, Pierce noticed that most of the doors he tried were locked shut, and the ones he did manage to get through all led in one direction. He was following a path set out for him, and he knew what waited at the end. He'd made it to the fifth floor, when suddenly, he collapsed to his knees as his headache became unbearable again. ----------------------------- "That's the plan. Liz, you'd better get going and start distracting them." Elizabeth walked up to Pierce and gave him a sloppy kiss. "I'll see you soon, cutie." "I think I'm going to be sick." ... ... The 47th floor was were the more important breakthroughs were made. Pierce and Elan ran through the hallways, scanning all the doors. "B-13... B-14... here we are." The door required a keycard and password. Pierce placed a rectagular device over the keypad and swiped a card through the slot. The device beeped a few times, and the door opened. The lab was a mess. There were parts scattered here and there, and a large contraption in the middle of the room taking up a lot of space. Someone really had to tell the scientests to clean up. This was going to cost them time. "Start looking." They searched for a few minutes, entirely too long, until, "Found it!" Elan exclaimed. He held the part under his arm as he and Pierce ran out into the hallway. "Freeze!" Someone yelled. There were guards advancing on them from the end of the hallway. "Shit! Just run!" They crashed through the door on the other end, into the staircase. They could hear guards running up the steps toward them, hear them yelling to each other. Going down a flight of stairs, they crashed through the door on that floor and entered a similar looking hallway. And then there were more guards running at them from the opposite direction. "Shit!" Pierce broke through a door at his side, entering into an office. There were several desks in the room, each with a computer on it. A scream rang out. It seemed there were some scientists working late. Two men in labcoats, and a woman near the window also wearing a coat. With a snarl, Elan ran to the center of the room, Pierce following suit. Then he deployed Golem and Rhyperior. "Wait!" Pierce cried out, but it was no use. As the guards stormed into the room, Elan's pokemon used Earthquake simultaneously. The attack wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, it was a tactic that Elan liked to employ. The floor cracked and gave way, as Elan, riding his Rhyperior, the guards, and the two male scientists all crashed onto the floor below. In the split second when Elan used Earthquake, Pierce saw it. The female scientist near the window fell back, crashing through the glass, and he didn't think, just leaped. Pierce landed on his chest just before the edge of the window, as his hand closed around the woman's. But he didn't get a good grip, and she slipped. His hand rushed out again, and this time they were only holding on by the tips of their fingers. The woman screamed and whimpered. "Please! Help me!" "Don't worry. I won't let go." A bright light made him screw up his eyes as a spotlight was focused on them. Police cars littered the street below, and someone on a megaphone yelled something, but Pierce couldn't make it out. The woman screamed again. "D- don't let go! Please, please!" "Don't worry, I'm pulling you up!" He yelled, reaching out toward her with his other hand. She tried to grab it, but she couldn't, and he couldn't reach to get a proper grip on the arm he did hold. "I- I don't think I can hold on!" "Dammit, just stay with me! Don't you let go!" He tried to reach her again. The next moments would be forever impressed into his memory. The moment her strength gave way. Her ear-piercing scream. Her face, a look of horror over it, as she fell. The swirling storm of destroyed equipment flying overhead ceased, and the contraptions fell to the ground, thankfully missing anyone. Hammond suddenly shaked his head as if clearing off a fog, and returned to his pokeball. Though Charlotte's team was probably hoping one of them would fall on Moera and crush her. Growling and shaking with agony and frustration, Moera reached for her left hand with her right and violently tore the Chroma Fragment out, slamming it against the floor and shattering it. Mirror exclaimed. The Wretches attacked Renny's Shaymin en masse, but thankfully the little guy looked like he was still breathing. "Fuck yes!" Charlotte shouted in joy upon seeing a young girl in pain. Also Hammond returned, the little fucker. She examined the pokeball for a moment. She didn't care what reason was behind it, there would be hell to pay.
"Remember that pain Moera! And while you're remembering, you should also predict the pain that's about to come your way." She was much too energetic about this. "Alright everyone, lets take down the wicked bitch of the west, that's not me by the way." She examined the forces from the backrow, and noted that Mio seemed to be taking damage, as did Kyrie. As of now, Mio was more important. "Melanie, put all focus on fixing up Mio. Mio, blast out Mattias. You know the one. Kyrie, just stick it out for now and Melanie will hopefully get you next turn. Have Entei use overheat on the Melanie clone while he's still around. As for you personally, hit the same target with a dark type attack. Uhh... Cecil was it? I dunno, you can think up something." With her orders out, she waited as they obeyed and in one case improvised. --- Melanie: Two healing items on Mio, bringing Mio back to full health. Melanie is put out of formation. Mio: Power Bolt on Psy. Mattias 250 Power with STAB, Improved Crit with Sniper Ability. Paradigm shift boost. Due to her increased speed, she presumably has a 33% or 50% crit chance due to likely speed clash victory. If she crits, Critical hit multiplier is 3 instead of 2. Entei: His ability activates Sunny Day. Uses Overheat on Psyshade Melanie. Sunny day and STAB boost. Kyrie: Attacks with Dark type attack on Psyshade Melanie. Super Effective. If Psyshade Melanie is already knocked out, target Psyshade Matthias. Cecilia: Attack the enemy with lowest remaining hitpoints with her Flying attack Murder of Crows. |

Impact's breath came in gasps. Everything had gone... wrong. He had taken a risk, risk was part of this. But this shouldn't have happened. As he felt another solar beam strike him, saw Renny fall, saw his team getting decimated, the last thought that passed through his head as the black edges around his vision grew wasn't that Faynoc would win, that evil would triumph, or that his teammates would die next to him, but that he... that he had failed. The thought hurt.
Mannerisms aside (he had to assert dominance somehow, right?), he did not consider himself a genius, or prodigy. But he had accepted this task, and with it responsibility. He had accepted out of confidence, maybe arrogance, but, most of all, determination. He would not allow himself to be broken, not here, not now, not ever. That was one promise he'd made, way, way back when... He almost drifted off, his vision going blurry, his senses numb. He was hurt. So was everyone else. But memories could be regarded later. He was here and this was now. And he would. Not. Fail. Again. With a mammoth effort of willpowere raised himself up, onto his elbows, squinted at the battlefield through burt lips, ignoring cuts and wounds and broken bones. And, with greater effort, he managed to speak into his, miraculously undamaged throat mike. "We... won't go down... like this. There's a... way." he rasped as around him the team got ready to step in, Kurika and Whitney standing their ground in front of him and Renny. "Kurika, back. Whitney, Lola. Heal her, help her. Lola. Heal. Heal all of us." The last request was more of a plea than an order, but he hoped, he knew, that this would work. And as he felt new life get injected into his arm, stood, brushed Kurika aside, faced the enemy with a grim smile, he knew. They would win this. "Take us out, assholes?" He replied to the enemy squad leader on a public channel, as he strapped on the Titan's fist, dropping his other weapons where he stood. "Well fuck you, and your general. Watchmen, on my mark. Moon, amplify our power. Whitney and Kurika support, I'll coordinate you. Everyone, focus fire on the pokemon. Wipe them out." His smile widened, and if anyone had taken the time to look past the combat scouter and into his eyes, they would have seen something worrying. Impact wasn't just enraged, or relieved, or bloodthirsy. He was scared. And with that fear came a strange desperation and a terrible ruthlessness. He would not fail. He would not be broken. He could not allow it. |

No... No, it wasn't supposed to be like this...
Renny laid splayed out on the floor looking burnt, bruised and bloodied from the sheer heat and concussive force of the point blank concussive force that took him. His mind dipped in and out of unconsciousness, all the sounds around him were muffled, deafened by exhaustion and the point blank sonic boom. And try as he might, his vision was practically all but black and blurred even considering that he could barely move his head as he laid prone facing the ceiling. Before the explosion, he was already battered and weary. It felt then like a single mere would blow him away. Then the Prideguard decided to employ a kamikaze attack that was sheer overkill... He tried to shield Lola, stunned blind from the flash grenade and unaware, but his small fatigued frame might as well have been paper armor as he was blown backward landing hard on his head. He groaned painfully unable to hold the distress of pain he tried to hide. I couldn't do it... thought I was stronger. Uggh....Maybe I am a little bit stronger than before... but I'm in over my head... Didn't know fighting would hurt so much... Suddenly, the floor trepipated with the rumbling of tiny debris as Swampert roared violently, Renny twisted his head to his left ever so faintly, as the demolished Mollesk and Togekiss also were crumpled in heaps on the floor, black pokeballs broken at the hidges. Scant moments after, Shaymin's small frame nosedived and bounced on the floor from midair a slight distance away, just as defeated as the rest. No, stop! The youth's face was anguished as he tried to squint out of his blurry vision to see if they were still alive, but his anxiety and uncertainty swept control of his mind, racing with all sorts of images. ------------ "Everyone... I'm thinking of being a pokebrid." Renny was sitting in his room, his pokemons all gathered outside their pokeballs as he confided in them. "With everything that has been going on, I can't help feel like I need to get stronger. I already gotten a small bit of training from a co-worker, but I can't help but feel like I can't use that training in combat as I am now." Some of his pokemons growled and whined as if he thought they weren't enough, which was embaressing to think about. "Aw, don't be upset! I think you are all are great! You all have been very supportive all this time. However, I can't help feeling that I don't want to just rely on other people for protection and be able to take a hit or two without going down. I was wondering if you guys had suggestions on what to think about for my forms?" The group then broke into conversations with each other, the mixed conversations sounding like foreign babbles to Renny's ears as he could merely grin and wonder what they thought. Swampert was the first to respond, pumping his arms proudly. Strength, right? That does sound like something you would say. Renny smiled cheerfully as he giggled in amusement and understanding. Umbreon and Magnezone both chimed in and tried to gesture and act out as a pair in a sort of charades game what they thought. After several mis-guesses, Renny finally tried to think what Umbreon and Magnezone would do... "Ah, trickier moves. Statuses and the like!" Swampert stucked his tongue out jokingly as he made known his slight distaste of that idea. Shaymin joined in as she wanted something flashy and impressive. Togekiss and Mollesk were more or less silent. Mollesk was mostly unaware and with only a slight inkling that Renny was going to change somehow. It finally tried to gesture with its several tentacles toward each of them, and Renny guessed that to mean to choose a pokemon with a different type from the rest. Togekiss looked a bit conflicted, rather liking the current Renny and not caring about choosing a new form specifically for fighting... "I haven't actually decided to do so yet... but I am thinking hard on it..." Renny tried to reassure them. He was pensive but had been more passionate about it ever since the last mission. -------------------- He had spent a long time in that room with the doctor, undecided on a specific form even as he visited, but once he went through the list of known pokemons, the Gallade form caught his eye and then the surgery commenced. The rest was a blank, but waking up, Renny recalled that the sensation of the pokebrid form was warm and inviting, as if he chosen to reunite with something that was always part of him. Maybe it was the pokemon species itself, which tended to have the same gentle and mannered traits that he saw himself having. But that feeling paled to the expressions and emotions he saw his pokemons had the moment they saw his new form as he stepped from the surgery room. Magnezone and Mollesk were elated enough, Shaymin was eagerly suprised as if opening a new present. Togekiss was pleased enough to know Renny's surgery went well regardless, but the emotionally and morally compatible Gallade form caused it to beam softly unable to hide its joy. Umbreon had apparently watched the door the entire time, and her normally kind but stern expression almost bubbled out of a certain sense of pride. However, Swampert was the most emotional of them all, hugging Renny boldly the moment he saw the new form and his posture straightened up almost instantly, making the largest pokemon of the team even bolder and full of presence. The form was both strong and possessing of several techniques so the lad knew that his pokemons would be more or less happy, but Renny couldn't understand Swampert's particular reaction even as he flew with Togekiss toward mission objective... but it was a truly heartwarming feeling as he felt embraced by the group. --------------------------- Everything felt so right... It seemed like I made the right choice... His pokemons were falling down in turn as soon as they were sent out as if in line. He had also saw Impact went down before he himself did. His fear turned into anger as he recalled Impact's orders which practically neglected the health of his own comrades... AGAIN! Rationality and despair overrode that line of thought... they were outnumbered from the start and the Prideguard were strong and seasoned soldiers. He knew this from the previous mission and he tried to improve himself... But a hastily accquired power did not leave more for experience or confidence. And it hit him... Despite all the preperations he made... There he was, lying there defeated in life or death combat... that he could even die in this dismal place, ashamed as he laid there useless, his friends old and new falling amidst their defiant defense. His breaths grew difficult as his chest tightened in the fearful emotional frustration, his throat almost choking him in the few tears he could not hold back. I don't want it to end like this! I thought I could help everyone! I didn't get the chance to warn my pokemon what this mission would be like... I would have given them a choice but they were willing to follow me blindly in. Smoking bodies, most of them still being eaten by acid, littered the floor. None of them were whole. Puddles of purple acid covered part of the hallway. At the end, Gransranx could be seen slithering away, as a black liquid squirted out of his body and burned holes through the floor. Was he bleeding? In spite of the massacre behind them, the Prideguard had their orders. They would take out the Watchmen and pursue Gransranx at all costs. As Lola assisted in bringing himself back to fighting form, Renny tried to discretly hide his embarressment and bits of tears, wiping his face with his hands as his waning senses reasserted itself into full consciousness.
"...Lola, thank you... Sorry, had to wipe my eyes. Point blank explosion still make my eyes itch. I'll try to do better this time." Renny stood up although still slightly shaken and pulled out several new luxury balls, recapturing his pokemons before they would suffer any mortal injuries. "I'm glad that I brought extra pokeballs, although I wish it was under happier circumstances." He sent out Swampert, the latter being much more relieved seeing Renny back on his feet. Renny was still frantic to get the situation under control for his team-mates, so he could only manage a brief smile to reassure them, as he ran toward Whitney, clasping his hand on her shoulder. "Whitney, thank you for covering for me while I was out. Let me take over for you. Breathe a little. We will ALL make it. I won't let it be any other way..." Swampert took his place beside Renny, his posture slouched over and arms outspread like as if prepared to lunge into the fray. Renny announced to the group as he prepared a Full Restore for his technique. "Everyone, let's deal with the pokemons first while the trainers are asleep! Then we will be able to deal with these things without the Prideguard interfering!" --------------------------------- Renny: Switches in, Propserous Gift Full Restore *Take cost himself* (Impact, Renny, Lola, Swampert, Whitney, Mirror) Swampert sent out on the field. Renny uses Pokebrid Action to confuse PDG Squad Leader in case he wakes up. Fire Evolith A: Blast Burn on Electric Evolith. Sunny Day Boost. Fire Evolith B: Eruption on Wretch A and B. Sunny Day Boost. Lola: If Renny fails to do the Love Tech, she tries to do it, sharing the cost with Renny. Either way, revive Togekiss and Mollesk. *Pay extra 25 rage for the 3rd action if she does do the Prosperous Gift* (Renny gets 50 rage total from both leader pokemon being revived). Togekiss and Mollesk both get 25% extra health at end of turn as per her ability. Mirror: deconstruct the weaker fire evolith (That used Blast Burn) and build attack booster in its place. Mirror attacks Lucario with Dust Cluster (Super effective. Boosted?) Kurika: switches in for Impact. Attacks Octillery with Nerve Strike (Super Effective and Boosted) Swampert: Attacks Nidoking with Ice Punch. "Not on your life!" shouted Moera to Charlotte's team. She was still trucking, but her protection was gone now. Nothing left to defend her from Charlotte. No Psyshades/Psytellites/whatever to hold her back. It wasn't quite enough though. Charlotte would make sure she was completely alone when the time came to kill her.
"I'm okay with that," came Charlotte's reply, a grin on her face. "It can be on your life. That's not a problem right? GOOD!" Looking over at the state Kirie was in, and the similar situation for Mattias off the battlefield, she supposed she owed it to them to offer some help. "Melanie, I think you know what to do. Get Kirie and Mattias back on their feet." Seeing as how Kirie was still needing to be woken up, Charlotte figured she could commandeer her Entei for the time being. "Fire dog... thing?" she shouted at the legendary to catch its attention, "use and overheat on Melanie. NO! The bad Melanie!" She could only hope it understood the gesture. "Kyrie, you okay now? Make sure your dog doesn't kill the medic. After that, just flip your shit on the clone of yourself." Now to focus on the other two team-mates she didn't really care about. "Mio, fuck their shit. Ruinous Clusterfuck thing. Cecilia, right? Same to you. Murder of Crows or whatever it is on whoever is left." With Gransrax having abandoned the fight, Impact and the rest of the team focused fire on the remaining Pokemon and the pack of Wretches. They shrieked like crying babies as bullets and various other attacks put them down. Impact got down to business. "Everyone alright? Absolute, about those respirators..." "It'd still take me a while to make enough for our squad," Mirror reported. "Fortunately, thanks to the Prideguard, I have enough materials." Impact looked at the door the Prideguard entered the garage from. "That's fine, but put it aside for now. Let's get healed up and try to find a route through the inside." "We're not going to chase after Gransrax?" "Why fight another battle that we might not have to?" Impact shrugged, then with a strong movement, took the Prideguard squad leader by the throat and slammed him roughly against the nearest wall. "Any sudden moves and I'm terminating your military contract," Impact coolly advised the rudely awoken squad leader. "Fine, but could you not stand so close to me?" the squad leader asked. "I can smell you even through my helmet." Impact frowned, then with his free hand, he removed the helmet with a strong jerk. "I'm simply going to ignore why you were using a vocal synthesizer to disguise your voice-" "Burkmont says that male leaders inspire better discipline so I-" "Hey! Ignoring!" Impact reminded her, then glanced at Mirror. "Absolute, can you get us a way further down? This won't take long." Mirror nodded silently and grabbed Whitney, who had been staring at Renny since the battle ended. Impact turned his attention back to the woman. "The Prideguard came here for Gransrax, but that's not all, is it?" The woman nodded. "We were told to capture Gransrax as a side objective. What we were really after was Professor Reynold Faynoc and the captured Shadolox." "Shadolox? What the hell is that?" "Guess you're not important enough to know about those kinds of things," the woman taunted, but decided not to push Impact's button. "Actually, they normally wouldn't tell me dick about anything unless there was a need to know, too. Shadolox is one of those extremely rare Pokemon." "A Legendary?" Lola asked curiously as she tended to Renny's Pokemon. "Or maybe just a shiny Pokemon?" "It's a Shadow Pokemon," the woman said. "And believe it or not, a naturally occuring one. Even more amazing, it's an evolved type! But unfortunately, that's all I was told, really. But I do know one thing for sure." "And that would be?" "It's extremely illegal to capture or remove those Shadow Pokemon from their natural habitat! It's one of those national crises!" she said. "Because of what he did, Faynoc's life is ticking down to bare hours. Once this whole incident gets reported, he's a dead man. We were ordered to come here and steal him away before someone else could cash in on his bounty." Impact stood back, releasing the woman. "I see. Thank you for your information, Miss...um..." "Cyril," the woman introduced herself. "Gunnery Sergeant Cyril Burkmont." "Related to Vladimir, are you?" "You're uhhh...not going to try and ransom me, are you? Believe me when I say that he wouldn't pay a single yen for my return." "The thought hadn't crossed my mind. I was thinking that we could play a little game." "A little game? Like SAW?" "Nope," Impact said dismissively, then dropped Cyril like a sack of apples with a solid punch to the stomach. "My game is much more merciful. This facility won't be standing much longer. I'll make certain of that. If you should regain consciousness and make it out on your own, you get to live. Otherwise...well, you'll be burried in one of the most expensive caskets I've ever seen." And Impact simply left it at that. One high ranking enlisted woman passed out on the dirty floor from a punch powerful enough to abort a fetus. Impact walked into the facility to check up on Mirror and Whitney, leaving the others behind. "Renny," Lola said, blushing and smiling brightly enough to light up the entire garage, was somehow able to look Renny in the eyes. "I knew you'd come and save me when I needed you the most." "Hey, an interior stairwell!" Renny and Lola heard Mirror shout from inside. "With a little hacking and rewiring, we can avoid a lot of combat this way." "I have a feeling we're not going to be as fortunate as you may be hoping, so everyone had better get prepared for a battle even worse than that fiasco. Heal up, and then let's check out that stairwell." ----- Charlotte's Team Moera was even more unrecognizeable than before. Chunks of her body were scattered across the floor and splatters of her blood were slapped against the wall. Yet, despite all the damage Charlotte and company had dealt to her, Moera continued to smile. But Charlotte recognized that smile despite the hideous, disfigured face that it was plastered on. The smile of the defeated. Charlotte loved that smile. "Well, if Father couldn't make it work, then I suppose only she could." "She?" Melanie said. "Who are you talking about?" Moera, left hand drooling blood and with heavy breaths, disarmed herself. "Amazing, isn't it? Sometimes you find the most brilliant minds in the most bizarre places, like my mother who was found bleeding and broken at the base of a cliff." Mio folded her arms. "Or sitting out in an ally just outside a brothel with nothing but tattered rags to shield herself from the pouring rain." "Warning. Warning. Breach in Level B7. Breach in Level B7. All authorized security personnel please investigate immediately. Repeat, all authorized security personnel please investigate immediately." "I think they're calling for you, Moe-Moe," Mio continued. "You have Level B7 access, don't you?" "Probably the Lopunny woman in the stealth suit," Moera said offhandedly. "Oh, well. It doesn't mean anything to me. This place and its inhabitants has almost outlived its usefulness, and I for one know when to cut my losses and exit the room. After all, you've only seen a fraction of what I'm capable of." "Cliched villain bullshit, article four, chapter seven, subtext sixteen," Mio shrugged. Moera gazed at Charlotte. "The only regret I have at this point is that none of you may live long enough to be slaughtered by me. Oh well, losers can't be choosers, and I certainly lost this time as well." Moera's large body warbled like someone had cast a stone on an image of her reflected on a lake surface and just like that, she had vanished from sight. "She teleports fast," Mio observed. Melanie walked over and knelt down beside the crystalline powder that once was the cloned Chroma Fragment. "Was this really just a clone of a Chroma Fragment?" Mio frowned and swept her hand through the shattered fragment. "Faynoc is a perfectionist. Moera had already failed to kill his enemies twice, so I think Faynoc would consider her a lost cause and just use her body as a tool for further experimentation. Experimentation like testing a cloned Chroma Fragment." "What was it supposed to do? Increase her powers?" "Faynoc told me that Chroma Fragments were extracted from the same lifeform that gave rise to the Ruin Pokemon and their Ruin Generals," Mio explained. "Ruin Pokemon are created from simple minor blood transfusions from the lifeform called Chroma to a human body, but pieces of Chroma's body, the Chroma Fragments, can increase the power of the recipient by leaps and bounds. A normal human becomes a Ruin General. Normally, this would mean that a Chroma Fragment, even a cloned fragment, would be able to turn a human into a Ruin General. Through experimentation on beings like Moera, the professor discovered that something else was needed." "Indeed. We have to be a blood relative to Malcolm Elliot, the first man to discover Chroma deep beneath the northern desert in Honmyr," Phantomere said into Charlotte's mind. "Thanks to that girl, I remember that I am actually an uncle to Elliot, myself. Malcolm transformed pretty much everyone in a bid to destroy the Fahngrest Empire's powerful and numerous enemies. Not that I blame him, of course. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that." Melanie stood back up, holding a red security card. "What else is required to create Ruin Generals?" Mio shook her head. "I don't know. But Moe-Moe and I were both incapable of achieving Chroma Synchronicity, the event of becoming a Ruin General." Mio and Moera didn't know what it took to make a Ruin General, but Charlotte did was the only one out of them who knew. Keeping it to herself didn't seem all that helpful, but Charlotte didn't see an immediate way to revealing how she knew if she told them. Phantomere could be more useful than Charlotte was banking on. "So you can't become a Ruin General? Yet you can become a Ruin Pokebrid?" "Professor Faynoc told me it was because people from Hiroshiho are direct descendants of people from the Fahngrest Empire of sixteen-hundred years ago. I don't completely understand it, myself." But thank to Phantomere, Charlotte understood all too well. Mio was a direct descendent of the ancient Honmyran people which qualified her to become a Ruin Pokebrid, but she wasn't directly related to Malcolm Elliot which renders her ineligible to become a Ruin General. Regardless, Moera was gone and they weren't getting anywhere just chatting amongst each other. There were no psychic phenomenon remaining to harrass them. That left whatever waited for them dead ahead, including the real Chroma Fragment. |
