Man, the Firesage fight is a whole lot easier if you don't lock on. That way you can easily sprint behind him and out of range when he uses his AoE. And his ass is so fat that it's not like you can miss if you aren't locked on.
Like, if everyone I've heard complain about Firesage being hard was locked onto him the entire fight, that would make a lot of sense. Otherwise I still don't get what people find so hard about him because I've never had a problem against him.

Locking on has nothing to do with it. I really only had a problem first time I fought him. This time I found the fight pretty easy, I expected it to go worse, though. With an int build using magic (my second character) he's even easier. I have this feeling that the 1.5 patch may have fixed his AI a bit, to prevent him from spamming his AOE attack, because that's what got me on my first playthrough several times, back then I felt the fight hinged more on luck than skill. Either that, or I've just become significantly better since then.
Not even getting rid of all my armor justifies dying to Pinwheel. Especially not after killing three bosses without dying once. I'm sure you won't die to him, he's practically a normal enemy, but with a boss' life bar.
