Honestly? I'm kind of surprised y'all are so down on... whatever this is, and especially Liz in particular.

I mean, sure, it sounds pretty ridiculous, especially fictives. But, I've heard transgenders say, "I'm a woman trapped in a man's body." Honestly, I can pretty easily draw a parallel to someone saying, "I'm a badger trapped in a man's body."

I mean, I'm not going to go, "LOLOL U SO STUPID TRANNY, U NOT GURL, U BORN AS DUDE!", because A) It's just going out of my way to be a dick, B) There's no way to back my claim up, and C) Why's it matter? I mean, it's harmless, and has no impact on how I live my life.*

So, why the hate when it's a badger trapped in the wrong body, and not a girl? I mean, aside from it sounding sillier? Fictives, I can understand being more hatin' on, since it's a lot crazier sounding, but even then, I go back to, "Well, why not accept them as how they are?".

There is a difference between "I am a girl trapped in a man's body" and "I am actually for different people from different pieces of fiction which only showed up after I found out said piece of fiction.". Thinking you are anything other than delusional in such a situation doesn't seem right now, does it?

And, also, I don't think anyone here actually goes "You think you're a badger? How silly.", we kind of have some furries on the community, after all.

"I am mentally a woman and perceive myself as such" involves gender, something malleable and defined by the self.

"I am a badger" means you have a mental defect and need to stop rutting with that chair. My furniture is new and you are ruining it.

I hope this summarizes the differences as cleanly as possible. (And yes, there are some people who call themselves furries but are clearly otherkin in action.)

Edit: And not the defect that is understandable and others should counterbalance for. I'm talking willfully inflicted head injury style.

Re: Popular fictives being prevalent: Here's my thoughts on this, which have developed after a lot of talking with one of my headmates. Everything in this universe is comprised of energy; you, me, etc. The same goes for thought, it's energy as well. In the case of fictives, the ones that have more energy (thought) directed toward them, the stronger they'd be. This might account for why the more popular fictive are the ones you hear about getting linked up most often - they have a advantage.

People sometimes try and come up with logical counterarguments to poke holes in fictive logic.

Stuff like this is why I don't bother. Logic has nothing to do with it.

So in this version of reality, like, every fictional character is real but does not possess a corporeal presence but is energy that seeks room in the corporeal minds of others?
And the more popular that character is, the stronger his or her ability to invade the minds of others and assert their presence there?

Yeah I totally see how this is exactly and directly comparable to transgendered individuals coming to a rational conclusion that their gender in fact does not correspond to the sex of the body they were born in. Transgendered people are just possessed by the ghosts of individuals of the opposite sex! All a faithful Republican needs to do is call an Exorcist!

NOTE: Acceptance of one belief system, philosophy, ideology, objective train or thought, or scientific truth does not necessarily correlate to a need universal tolerance for every belief system, philosophy, ideology, etc. That's the train of thought Republicans try to use to derail Democrats; the notion that "But if you accept gay people, next you'll be telling us that bestiality is okay too!"

That's not the way it works. Our objective ability to analyse and assess the merits and flaws of beliefs, ideologies, cultural traditions and other sociological phenomena remains fully intact, and we should in fact continue to identify some behaviorisms as immoral and inappropriate even as we accept other traditionally denigrated behaviorisms as legally permissible, scientifically factual and even socially beneficial.

To compare transgendered individuals who truly are the gender they consciously associate as to fictives who are so clinically depressed that they're indulging in fantasies to escape from boredom or any other personal plight is downright offensive. It assumes that the gender the transgendered person associates as is every bit the 'fiction' as the identity of the character the lunatic claims to possess part of his mind. In this conceptualization, you're not truly accepting the transgender person's declaration of his/her true gender, you're just tolerating their 'incorrect' statements because you're "a nice tolerant guy." There's a seismic difference.

Merely suffixing with your incorrect and boldly inappropriate statement with "I don't care how much you tell me it's incorrect and inappropriate, I'm still right and LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" is essentially, at best, an admission that you already know you're wrong and just being controversial for grins and giggles, and certainly does not exempt me from my obligation as a decent human being to tell me that you are in fact saying stupid things.

TBH I'm not sure how hard I can get behind all these serious defenses of needin' to make fun of weird but basically harmless people.

Like I'm all for makin' fun of weird but basically harmless people a bit and all but at the point where it's generating this many wordpiles, for whatever reason, maybe it's a bit much for now as far as ripping on this specific group of weirdos.
