Alright, so, I'm badly wounded and was forced to play TF2 tonight with one hand and a tail, but crisis averted! Four horsemen, a few angels, a few devils, the people who made Darksiders, and any/and/or all possible partners for Snake to get laid with in the foreseeable future. How now, apocalypse now? All I needed were some soulstones, a demonic symbiote, a bottle of jack daniels, and an Ipod!

Plus a few virgin sacrifices.

For the record, this is about the billionth time the world has been close to ending. All it takes is one idiot talking about how the world is going to end, word of mouth spreads the idea, and before you know it the idea's in everybody's head. Then the power of belief in billions of people is enough to make it actually happen, and then someone has to punch out a raptor.

was reading something, forget where, but it pointed out how the true motivation for belief in end of the world is arrogance. To be the last generation also means the most important, to be the peak of humanity, that your now is all that matters because there is no later, that you were there at the single most important event there will ever be in human history.

because the alternative is the ugly truth that in the grand scheme of things you dont matter and in 100 years no one will even know you existed. Sure there are some that create a lasting legacy, these are also the people that dont believe the world will end. After all whats the point of creating something that will last for generations if you think the world will end in a few days

it was a point, not mine though. personally I think its a complex number of reasons. Desire for certainty, nihilistic world view, freedom of responsibility, comfort in knowing there is something more.

Personally my reason for believing the world will continue is simple statistically likelihood. While there are alot of potential things that could end the world at any random moment, including divine intervention, considering how brief human life is on a cosmic scale any extinction level event happening in my life time is unlikely.
