I've been selling the blue mystery boxes, 'cause whenever I had opened those it was just more green lockboxes. I have done all of my ground missions on my fed science officer as a medic. I feel like there's less damage going around, but that's only because I am not dishing it out personally. The lack of deaths and smooth sailing leads me to believe her crew actually is pretty quick. I really like the one science kit that gives you an AoE snare, radiation dot, and fire blast though, too. In any case, I would be excited to run some ground things with you all and heal to see if that is at all viable against Borg. Or if I am any good at it. I may be too attached to, erm... addons for knee-jerk reaction-healing. Though I never started using those until raids, so I did hotkeys and party portraits for 5-mans. Anywho, check you cats in-game. We'll get some STF time and then I think we should somehow descend upon Kerr'at some more.

OK gave up on the Deep Space for now and have the Galor and MVAM for DPS/PvE/STF shit on my fed sci. Oh God the MVAM is such a beast regardless of captain career. Some time I want to make the Deep Space into a PvP monster, but I will need help with that.

The first thing you need to understand when hopping into a sci ship for PVP is that you're not going to kill anyone, and you're not going to tank spectacularly either. It's a pretty distressing feeling because you lack the weapons and the hull strength and engineering slots to fight on the most basic level. Your job however, is neither of these. You want to find the fleet's focused target and mess it up so it dies. Anyone familiar with the EWAR ships in EVE online will be friends with this technique.
Sci breaks into about 3 or 4 major fields... Holds/Knocks, Zone Control: Tractor beam, tractor repulsors, gravity well, and the like. Hold people down so they can't escape, break balls by pushing ships apart, and generally cause havoc on positioning. Requires you know what good and bad positioning is in the first place, however. Works well with you integral Beam: Target engines Shield Stripping: Tach beam, Photonic Shockwave, Charged Particle Burst, and various other skills that deal straight shield damage let you bust tanks in ways you can't do with weapons. Add in beam target shields, and go to town. This is actually really, really effective. Feds are great at it cause these are their cloak detectors too. Energy Drain: Using powers like energy drain, tyken's rift, siphon drones, ect. Basically cripples all aspects of the target making them more likely to die and not kill. Great, but ultimately not a federation specialty. KDF has much better drain powers. Beam target anything adds hurt to what you intend to disable. Don't Phase Me Bro: Feedback pulse, TSS, Hazards... The typical things you think of when tanking a sci ship. You want these, but not too many of these. It's hard to get a feel for it, but you need just enough tank to live, and then as much 'black magic' of your chosen field above as you can pack in the ship. Basically, you cripple someone so your escort can hammer him for the kill. This is why Sciscorts like the M-VAE and Bird of Prey are so nice, you can actually do your own damage. You can't pack many disables on them, but what you do pack is instantly followed up on. My BoP for example is mainly an energy drainer with two holds. Decloak, cripple, tackle, kill.

Just wanted to note that Photonic Shockwave falls into the first catagory, not the second. It's a stun and knockback that deals hull damage, but does very little against shields. The hull damage itself isn't really the goal, however, as a well-timed stun can be a deadly way of halting another vessel's ability to heal long enough to get the kill.
This is particularly useful in the hands of a MVAE Prometheus, in my experience of being on the receiving end.

It feels like my weapons don't do as much damage as they did in the olden days. But I still have so much shields.

god damn that klingon battleship from City on the Edge of Never is kicking my ass.
Admittedly, it probably has to do with being a science officer flying a heavy escort, but still. |

All right, the Federation fleet, NPF Beach House, has been formed. Everyone that's currently in it has invite powers, so if any of us are on, we can bring you in. Just be sure to join the NPFU channel if you haven't already so we can all easily keep in contact.
