Default Help me decide whether to buy OR Torchlight

Feel free to use this to garner your own game-buying advice.

I've been watching and re-watching Yahtzee's newest review on Torchlight and I was wondering if it's any good. I mean, it's definitely a Yahtzee review, but for some reason, I can't help but be intrigued by this one and I'm wondering if it's worth buying.

It's an alright game not amazing but not bad. Being a single player dungeon crawler I found it became monotonous rather quickly.

Meh, it's alright. Yahtzee was right about the Giant Laser of Melty Death spell though; once you get Ember Lance all you have to do is hold down RMB and point it at things until they die.

I recommend you get it. I bought it when it was on sale for US$10 - I was going to buy it for US$20 before but didn't have the money - and it's very much worth it - even with the currency rate screwing me over so I technically pay close to double. The thing is, the game is very, very easy if you're a Destroyer until the last part where the game decides to screw you and then everything hits hard. Alchemist and Vanquisher are a bit harder, but not much. Plus, extensive modding!

What difficulty? Because I have it at the highest level I can with a 26 Alchemist and while it kills every normal monster in two hits, rare enemies and more tank-y enemies can take a LOT of hits from it. It's also not such a good area spell, go figure. Pyre is much better, aiming-wise.

Any difficulty. And to make it AOE, all you have to do is move it around and it'll blast away anything you point it at. I never updated my Torchlight, though. I think they nerfed it a little.

The key thing is that you have to point at things, just randomly moving the mouse won't do much and you'll hit some monsters, but not all of them. Pyre doesn't do as much damage, but it gets the job done just as well and you can do the fun tactic of Ember Phase-ing into a bunch of monsters, using Pyre around you then Ember Phase-ing out.

Edit: And, oh yeah, it's nerfed. It deals 50% magic damage + fire damage instead of 100% magic damage + fire damage.

Yeah I basically kill everything with my Rouge class person without much effort. But it's still fun if your into Loot-driven games. But I heard that they'll be releasing the free multiplayer version soon.

From what I've read it's not quite as complex as Mythos was going to be. AND Mythos was originally going to be free to play. Which for something that becomes so monotonous as a Diablo II-clone would've made sense.

I played Diablo II for approximately 20 minutes before becoming bored to death. Diablo kept my attention quite a bit longer but it still go boring after a while.

I have to admit I missed out on all these dungeon crawler games in their hey-day, though.

EDIT: Oh, there is a free version coming out? I guess I'll give it a whirl, but if it's as easy and monotonous as Diablo II I don't think I'll play it for long...

I don't see the point in buying it now. It was 75% like two weeks ago.

Try the demo. There's a free one on the website. That's what I did, and I'm probably not going to purchase.
