Getting a refund is using your money to make a statement with your money.
The retailer returns the copies that were brought back, which cost them money to pay the buyer back, and the publisher has to make up for their loses on a product or violate contract. Unless they sell used, but that's another problem with a bigger tank of worms. edit: Actually, I take that back. If they do sell used, that further hurts the bottom line of the Dev/Publisher because each used copy sold doesn't give them any money, and they should be trying to minimize that sort of loss, not cause it directly. As well, a Mass of returns on a highly anticipated product is top news for gaming sites and youtube gameing news casters, and that word starts to get out that it might not be worth your purchase at all, and the sales begin to drop. Future titles from them come into constant question due to a lack of brand faith. All because they decided to tell a huge lie and treat their customers like shit for a few dollars. If they fail because their work goes unnoticed and they tried their best, it was sad. If they fail because they lied, cut content to sell, and treated their customers like little children? Fuck 'em, they should take their lesson and try to be better

shiney, the problem is that this

to bring this back to a photography analogy, if I promise a client ten different photographs of his product for an ad campaign and then deliver ten photographs from the exact same angle with the exact same framing and lighting, yes I may have delivered ten separately shot photographs, but he could probably still sue me for it because I blatantly am violating the spirit of the contract. |

This reminds me of the women who sued "Drive" for not having enough car chases.
I'm sueing GoodFellas for not having any good fellows in it. And I want a 75% refund on tinker tailor soldier spy. |

Just want to clarify that since Amazon's saying this is a customer satisfaction thing and not a "this game is broken/whatever" thing I'm more okay with the refund. I was mostly frustrated by the idea of a bunch of gamers getting a refund on what most seemed convinced to be a mostly good game with a weak ending when there are so many more deserving examples that are ignored because not enough people overreact to them. As that's not the case, I don't give a fuck.

Considering how much the ending to Mass Effect betrays the rest of the franchise, I can see that as a case for everyone else. (I don't like the game in general, ignoring the ending, so that is not really the case for me.) |

Whole thing could have been sidestepped really. Like if they had a time bomb locked in the game that some 5 days after you finish the game, next time you load it some more shit happens that actually means something. That's the kind of tricky shit I would pull as a developer.

Anyways I know it's a lame "just playing devil's advocate" but I think it's pretty clear that I don't like the ending any more than anyone else and I'd probably feel cheated too, I just don't know how far it can reasonably be taken before a valid argument of "having a hissy fit" can be made.
