Renny stepped forward a bit more so as to make his presence known to the enigmatic being. He spoke without introducing himself.
"Nosferatu... For a while, I had some questions to ask about you. Although by now, I think I some of them have already been answered... but there is one series of related questions that I really need to be ask. Why us? Let's assume that we can take your willingness to help us for granted. Why are you motivated to help us in particular? What's so special about Myrie, PATCA or any one of us that you'd get involved in all the mess related to Faynoc and Adonova to do so, instead of remaining peacefully protected within the Corpsemire? Or are you the sort of person who'd aid anyone who asks for assistance? I do recall that you allowed a Shadolox to be taken by Adonova to be taken to Faynoc for his research. Something I think Faynoc couldn't do on his own due to the security around this place." Renny was a little uncertain about the last statement given that Alucard was able to slip past the Republican Front's perimeter so easily. Was she secretly an infilitration genius as well, just full of sheer dumb luck, or was the security around the Corpsemire really full of holes? "Although... something is odd about this. Why are you admitting responsibility for Myrie being turned into a Shadow pokebrid? I understand that you have an innate connection to all Shadow-types, so once Myrie became one, you were bonded to her. But that's after the point. It's not like you could have known that Myrie HAD kidnapped by Faynoc, or knew that Faynoc specifically intended to use the Shadowlox to experiment on Myrie as opposed to any of his other experiments or subjects. So it wouldn't have been your fault. Or has there been times when you been observing Faynoc or Myrie beforehand? Or Rulag?" Renny glanced in her direction. "She HAS been seen outside of the Corpsemire. She was spotted at Millenium House and we fought her at the same time as Myrie too. Has you or Rulag ever been watched Faynoc or Myrie before that kidnapping incident? " *Note that Jeanette will likely connect the dot that Rulag has been spying on Myrie since before the kidnapping so there is a special reason that Myrie was targetted. Renny would probably ask afterwards about whether there is something special about Myrie (pre-shadow surgery) that warranted this spying in the first place. Like her also being THE Ruin Commander. "It's just that some of them still might hold on to hope that after all this is over, peace will return to Honmyr." Irene's shoulders slumped. "Defeat the Ruin Generals? Okay. Bring down Vladier Burkmont? Sure, we can do this. Resolve the dark mysteries behind the Rezonscape? It's on our list. But know that things will continue to get a lot worse before they can even begin to start getting better. PATCA may not be the largest force or the greatest funded or the best equipped, but each one of us is awesome, the very best of the very best of the very best. In the end, we're going to be the eye of the storm that will very well save the Pokemon World. Some of us like to imagine ourselves as heroes, and that's perfectly alright. But the day is going to come when we won't have a choice but to be heroes, to do things that no army possibly can. And in order to ensure the Pokemon World's safety, there are those of us, like myself and Nosferatu, who not only have to make tough decisions regarding our own futures which is bad enough, but we also find ourselves having to decide the fates of others before us. Do you remember Ginnungagap? How it produced genetic copies of Jeanette Ricewood? While we cannot be certain that there's a connection between parent and child when it comes to how one can become successfully receptive of dangerous Pokemon DNA infusions, the fact that those copies were able to become legendary Pokebrids with relative ease gave us confidence that Myrie had the potential to become something great and not just another Asura." "So you had something to do with this too, didn't you?" Jeanette faced Irene. "You know what? Fuck it. We're burning daylight out here so I'm going to be the one to end this. I am aware that my daughter is not going to be returned to normal today, so the two of us are going to leave. But Irene? We will be talking for a long time when you get back." "I will be prepred for what is to come," Irene promised. Jeanette's face saddened, then she forced herself to turn and walk away. Myrie hurried up to her and gently grabbed her hand as they left. "I wish things could be different," Irene looked sad as well. "But the future to decide just what is required to alter fate is a power I have yet to grasp." "So Irene, you played a part in Myrie becoming a Shadow Pokebrid, too?" Lucian asked. Irene shook her head. "Though I will say that now that it's happened, I will do whatever is within my power to keep Myrie as she is and to see her potential as a warrior grow. I wish I didn't have to get children involved in the messy future that is to come, but unfortunately being a lucky lady will only carry success so far without heroes." Ray stood with crossed arms, watching Irene. This was little that he didn't know, but the group's reactions interested him. This was just a hint of betrayal, betrayal for a good cause, yet it'd already cost Irene the trust ofa longtime friend and ally. He was torn between gratification and worry. Schadenfreude was never wise when it came to your close allies, and in a few years, he might be in Irene's place, but it was strangely gratifying to see her slip up just a little. She distracted herself from her own self-deprecating thoughts by moving towards the large vortex in the soil. Nosferatu retracted all of his hooks and moved aside to allow Irene to peer within the gateway. "Yodel-ey-hee-hoo!" Irene called down into the whirling void. Then she stood up and turned to Shizuka. "So, what? We just hop right on in?" "I might also advise some kind of a prayer," Shizuka suggested without humor. "Such wisdom could only have come from beings of another world," Irene noted sarcastically, then turned and hopped right in. "I'll go ahead and make sure it's safe for us," Lucian volunteered and, after a couple of sharp breaths, sprinted and dove into the hole. "C'mon, Renny, this will be so much fun!" Milsha said, then without waiting for him, the country gal readied her sword and hurled herself into the vortex. One by one, as more of the agents volunteered, others found the courage to trust their fate to wherever the gateway would take them until none remained. "Do you think they will be alright?" Nosferatu asked Rulag. "Ain't our damn problem no more," Rulag lit a cigarette. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Donovan ~ Maybell Farmstead Donovan awoke in what appeared to be a really old and decrepit barn. Aside from the dim lanterns unevenly spaced throughout the place, it was very dark. Remembering something, Donovan switched on the night vision on his Inquiry Visor and found Calisto, awake and armed, pointing her rifle at one of the exits. Then she turned towards Donovan, aimed her rifle at him, and then breathed a sigh relief. "Kiyomi and Twiloch are outside, having a look," Calisto reported. "Kiyomi believes we wound up in one of the Hungry World's Reality Shards, so they're searching for what Kiyomi calls a Sentinel." A flash of lightning occurred that spooked Calisto and temporarily deactivated Donovan's night vision to protect his eyesight. The sniper searched frantically for something, anything that could have been an adversary. Donovan was certain that he saw human shadows in the lightning flash, but as his night vision function restored itself, he and Calisto were the only ones there. "I guess this Sentinel is something that can get us out of the Reality Shard and into the Hungry World proper. Otherwise, we're stuck here. So uhh... can you walk?" Donovan felt as good as he was before he dove into the massive rip in dimensions, and Calisto helped him to his feet. "I'll be honest; this place has my hairs standing on end," Calisto said with a slightly quivering voice. This probably also explained why Calisto was staying very close to Donovan, enough for him to smell her fragrances of lingering body wash. "I've been seeing and hearing things that I don't think are mere tricks of the odd weather. Lightning flashes and heavy winds but no rain. I hope those two get back here soon." Unfortunately, they didn't get back soon enough. The wind pushing up against the barn was causing the wood to creak, and apparently this was disturbing things that the two would rather have let rest. "Are they... ghosts?" Calisto whimpered. In another flash of lightning, they saw it. Murdered corpses and blood stains on the walls and straw-covered dirt floor. And as the light regressed, the vision of terror vanished, but something new rose from the shadows to replace it. BGM: Disturbed ~ Perfect Insanity Donovan's Formation: [Donovan / Calisto (Enforcing)] Enemy's Formation: [Crawling Man*] [Axed Horse*] Battlefield Conditions: Very Dark (IV Night Vision is compensating) Weather Conditions: Flying moves automatically gain STAB due to freak winds Calisto readied her rifle. "I see so many of them, but it looks like only two of them are coming to kill us. I hope the others get back here soon!" * Crawling Man [Humanoid/Ghost] ~ A man in rural attire (overalls, work boots) who rapidly crawls along the floor. The Visor identifies the apparition as a Ghost type and suggests that the wounds Donovan can see were inflicted mostly by a fireaxe and struggles. Regardless, Donovan can see one thing for certain; this fellow did not die painlessly. * Axed Horse [Normal/Ghost] ~ May have been killed trying to protect its master or just from making noise that was alerting the humans, the horse died from severe wounds to the neck, head and flanks inflicted by a fireaxe. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hyacinth ~ Toy City Hyacinth woke up to see Lucian's handsome and worried face in front of hers. His face filled with relief when he saw that she was coming to. "Oh good, you're alright as well. Can you stand? You don't look injured but you were unconscious for a few minutes after I awoke." They were outside, and the numerous wrecked structures suggested that they had found themselves in a large city. "Tsubasa's having a look around and I think Melanie went to go find a restroom," Lucian explained. "The city was like this when we got here and I don't recognize the landmarks or anything so I guess this is from a different world than Pokemon World." "Is Tsubasa back yet?" Melanie's voice came from around the corner of the nearest building as she returned. "I would think she'd know what this place is. I thought the Kimonos explored every Reality Shard that suddenly popped into the Hungry World?" "She could just be looking for the Sentinel," Lucian looked thoughtful. "We're going to need to find it if we're going to escape from this place." They heard a man's scream. "What the fuck?" Melanie demanded. "Melanie, please check and see if Hyacinth's completely okay," Lucian ordered politely. "I'm gonna go see what that was." Lucian hurried off while Melanie had a look at Hyacinth. "Let's see... you're still very sexy. I guess that means you're okay." Gee, thanks Melanie. Then they heard Lucian swearing in rapid succession. He bolted out from around the corner and dove just as a stream of searing flames chased him down and sundered the very air he was occupying an instant ago. After a clumsy shoulder roll, Lucian sprinted back to the two women. "What the fuck is that?!" Melanie asked him. Lucian was panting. "Would... would you believe... a stuffed animal dog... with a flamethrower?" "Are you shitting me?" Melanie said, then realized that Lucian was indeed not shitting them as they saw the thing for themselves. BGM: Iced Earth ~ Dystopia Hyacinth's Formation: [Melanie] [Hyacinth] [Lucian] Enemy's Formation: [Huggiegrub*] [Hotdogger*] Battlefield Conditions: Sorta Dark (working streetlights and night sky are compensating for lost accuracy). Ground is paved road and concrete that affects ground-based moves. Weather Conditions: Clear Lucian drew his Cerberus axe and Exodus shotgun. "I dunno what that fluffy bug grub thing can do, but that giant dog stuffed animal has an industrial flamethrower so be careful." * Huggiegrub [Bug/Steel] ~ A cute but very large industrial construct that is covered to resemble a huggable caterpillar. The Inquiry Visor points out that it's more or less a steel framework underneath a bunch of industrial stuffing and machinery. Basically, it's a giant, old robot of some kind, but what kind of weirdo would build this damn thing? * Hotdogger [Fire/Steel] ~ An adorable but gigantic industrial construct that looks like a stuffed animal dog. The mouth opens to spew chemical fire in a steady, flesh-eating stream of burning death. Like the Huggiegrub, it's an old robot made from construction materials and modern-day machinery that could only have been created by a complete wacko. ---------------------------------------------- Matthias ~ Assaulted Hive Matthias woke up to find the others with him in some kind of... weird prison of sorts. The floor, walls, ceiling and prison bars weren't made of anything that would normally be used to make prisons. But one thing was for sure; it all smelled pretty damn good. It was dry and warm, but not in a good way. Matthias knew enough about fire to know that he in a place that was on fire. Kirie used her massive sword to smash the prison bars into pieces. "I think I know this place, and we're not going to want to stay here long. Lloyd-san, can you use telekinesis to bring Sona-san with us?" Aster and Alphonsine turned towards Matthias to discover that he had already recovered. "Actually, he's regained consciousness now," Aster said. Alphonsine walked over to Matthias and offered him a hand. "Can you stand and walk?" Alphonsine asked Matthias gently. "We can't stay here. I think we're in a really bad spot." The really bad spot they had found themselves in seemed to be some kind of enormous bug hive. There was a large cloud of dark smoke up near the ceiling. Matthias could see weird creatures moving around on many of the misshapen catwalks that circled the perimeter of the large room. "We should hurry and find the Sentinel," Kirie instructed. "It'll be our only ticket out of this place." "What does it look like?" Alphonsine asked the angel. "Large black jellyfish," Kirie responded quickly. "Looks clear. Let's go." Unfortunately, they quickly discovered that in a place consumed by the chaos of large fires and some kind of ongoing invasion, no clear or safe location remained clear or safe for long at all. BGM: Adrenaline ~ Nine Lashes Matthias's Formation: [Aster] [Matthias / Alphonsine (Enforcing)] [Kirie] Enemy's Formation: [Scythehead* A] [Scythetoe*] [Scythehead B] Battlefield Conditions: Enemy morale seems to be low from some kind of invasion. Weather Conditions: Uncomfortably warm and dry with noxious smoke in the air. You are not currently being affected by this. "Cut through 'em and let's hustle," Kirie shouted, reading her blade for action while loosening her kimono. With her back exposed, Kirie was able to conjure and spread her white angelic wings "We have to escape before this whole damn place comes down on us!" * Scythehead [Humanoid/Bug] ~ A human being that has been infected by some kind of parasitic bug monster and has hotwired the human body to suit its purposes. Four large scythe arms with jagged teeth protrude violently from the head and upper body and a good slash will probably remove half of your intestines if you're not careful. * Scythetoe [Humanoid/Flying] ~ A human being that has been infected by some kind of parasitic bug monster and has hotwired the human body to suit its purposes. The feet have been turned into deadly raking insect claws and four wings have burst from the head and shoulders that somehow manage to keep this guy off of the ground. ------------------------------------------------------------- Pierce ~ Logic Break Just what kind of fucked up world had Pierce found himself into this time? Shizuka was holding him close to her breasts when he came to, and without a word, she helped him back onto his feet. "The gateway into the Hungry World was unstable. We've been separated from the others," she said, looking around. "Seems like we've wound up in Logic Break. It's this really fucked up place with really fucked up enemies." Fuck. Chizuru returned with Sophia in tow. "I couldn't find the Sentinel so it must be out of sight. We may have to fight our way through some of these things." "Well, then," Shizuka said, nodding to Pierce. "Are you ready for battle? We'll need to find the Sentinel if we're going to get the hell out of this place. There's something at my castle that I really want to show you." Now that Pierce's eyes were no longer full of Shizuka's ample bosom, he could take stock of the situation. 'Tetris Hell' was about the only way he could describe this messed up world. The path they walked hovered over a bottomless void of swirling and vibrant colors that surrounded them completely and the path was made of large, interconnected colored blocks. Pierce discovered quickly that the gravity of the area was relative to the sides of the blocks. A water fountain mounted on the 'wall' of a block floating in midair spewed water that fell sideways back onto itself. "Logic Break is a name that Mika gave this place," Chizuru told Pierce. "It seems to have similar principles as the Hungry World itself, able to take chunks from other Reality Shards and mold it all into one giant mess. Just wait until you see the things that try to kill you here." BGM: Powerman5000 ~ Show Me What You Got Pierce's Formation: [Chizuru] [Pierce / Sophia (Enforcing)] [Shizuka] Enemy's Formation: [Agony Split*] [Digest Hook*] [Explode Organ*] Battlefield Conditions: Anomalous gravity fluctuations makes flying dangerous and unpredictable effects may occur. Weather Conditions: Perfectly Fine. This place probably doesn't even have the ability to have weather. "Let's clear our way through," Shizuka advised her friends. "No mercy. We need to find that Sentinel." * Agony Split [Humanoid/Fairy] ~ A normal human man has a large gash wound that splits him almost completely from his left shoulder to his crotch. And then long, red, prehensile tentacles burst from the wound and somehow brandish a pump-action shotgun. This is an Agony Split, and it's a surprisingly accurate shooter. * Digest Hook [Humanoid/Poison] ~ A normal human man has apparently had his lower torso ripped open. His intestines had been ripped almost completely free and a gruesome, rusty barbed hook has been attached to the severed end. This is a Digest Hook, and they can inflict grievous and infected wounds when they hurl that hook across your unprotected flesh. * Explode Organ [Humanoid/Fire] ~ A normal human man is casually ripping out his bodily organs and hurling them at people he does not like similar to a baseball pitcher. These organs are overfilled with some kind of chemical gas that detonates violently upon impact. This is the Explode Organ, and they seem to be perfectly alright with their completely nonsensical lifestyle. ------------------------------------------------------------- Ray ~ Chaos Atelier? When Ray awoke, Irene was giving him a lap pillow. But something was very off about Irene. She looked disturbed about something, but more than that, she also looked like she immediately shaved twenty-five years off of her body. And she was world-annihilatingly beautiful. "Wakey wakey, fucker," Irene said, looking down at Ray's face. "Something's wrong and we can't stay here." Irene helped Ray off of the floor as Pizza returned. Fujiko was with them as well, leaning against one of the walls of... wherever the hell they had found themselves, and seemed to be sleeping. "There are some crazy-ass people going apeshit all over the place," Pizza said as she grabbed her Cutter Staff that was leaning against a different wall. "Okay, so do you want to explain this, Megu-san? All of it?" "Yeah, I guess I'd better," Irene folded her arms. "The truth is, somehow we're inside the Chaos Atelier. This is a top secret research facility that was constructed using existing Heritage Site ruins that was itself built around the Rezonark. I don't know how we got here since the facility is completely locked down." Fujiko opened her eyes. "I would expect that the Hungry World emulated the Chaos Atelier and created a Reality Shard based on it right here in the Hungry World." "It's weird as hell, but I guess it's possible," Irene shrugged. "I mean, here we are. As for my age, this is how I really look. I've been using tricks and stuff to make myself look as old as my age is, but in reality I stopped aging at nineteen, when Vladier and I encountered something deep beneath the ground in Honmyr." Ray was very certain that he knew exactly what Irene was referring to. "Something about the Hungry World or maybe just this Reality Shard is fucking with my magic and I can't make myself look like a middle-aged woman anymore. If I can't get my looks back by the time we escape from here, I'd like it if you guys could make an excuse for me." "Why're you hiding a body like that at all?" Pizza asked her. "You could turn any girl bicurious with curves like that." Irene smiled. "Well, when you need to hide a secret, you need to hide the possibility that the secret exists. If people saw that I wasn't getting older, they would try to figure out why I wasn't getting older and the truth would eventually get out. Besides, I think Pierce is mostly into cougars and if he realizes that I'm younger than him..." Irene kneeled down and picked up her swords. "Besides, my daughter would probably need therapy too. I mean, what would you think if your mother was younger than you? The sacrifices I make for this world, eh?" Suddenly, there was quick movement and they were under attack. BGM: Skillet ~ Monster Ray's Formation: [Fujiko] [Ray / Pizza (Enforcing)] [Irene] Enemy's Formation: [Lost One* A] [Madmaiden*] [Lost One B] Battlefield Conditions: Solid floors, walls, and ceilings in a relatively small area makes flying, digging, changing the weather, and other related effects impossible. The Rezonscape's influence is very strong here, increasing Rage generation to 6 per Upkeep Phase. Weather Conditions: It's a completely clear and sterile environment. "I can feel that the Rezonscape is very strong here," Irene said, both swords at the ready. "I think even the Rezonark was emulated into this Reality Shard. We have to find that Sentinel, fast!" * Lost One [Humanoid/Ruin] ~ A man who has gone completely insane from prolonged high-level Rezonance exposure, turning him into a violent killer who can no longer feel mercy, fear, or pain. They fight like a demon possessed, attacking with their boney fingers and limbs, and don't go down like most people. * Madmaiden [Humanoid/Ruin] ~ A woman who has gone completely insane from prolonged high-level Rezonance exposure, turning her into a violent psychopath with relentless fury and ear-piercing screams of unfathomable anguish. Expect her to be the typical status effect bitch. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Renny ~ Maven Manor It was the sound of a ticking grandfather clock that pulled Renny out of his slumber. Were they in the Hungry World now? Milsha was standing near him, and was really happy to see Renny finally come to. "Oh, praise the legendaries that you woke up," Milsha said, though she was speaking very quietly for someone who was so relieved to see him. Something must be up. Renny found that he, Milsha, Nyoka, and Bianca had become separated from everyone else and wound up here, in what appeared to be the main lobby of a huge mansion. "Renny, thank goodness you're alright," Bianca sounded like she had just remembered how to breathe again. Maybe she was relieved because now they had a man with them? "Miss Nyoka thinks we fell out of the gateway prematurely and ended up in a Reality Shard called Maven Manor. She said it's a horrible place and we should definitely try to escape from here. I hope we can get out of here soon. I've been hearing some really scary noises. I don't think we're alone here." "Calm down, nya," Nyoka said. "But the situation is very serious, nya. Trying to find the Sentinel in this place is going to be very difficult, nya. Still, we should be able to do it without much trouble if we just keep quiet, nya." The power suddenly went out. Bianca screamed and Renny once against found his face pressed into a comfortable, warm little piece of heaven. "Quiet, nya! They'll hear us, nya!" Now Renny could hear the noises. Something knew that the mansion had unexpected visitors. "I found the circuit breaker," Milsha's quiet voice carried well in the dark. "I'll turn back on the lights." She did. And then she freaked and grabbed her TekSaber in a flash. "Renny, up there!" Renny looked... and then froze as his mind tried to process just what he was seeing. Bianca and Nyoka stepped back as the... thing hurled itself from the floor above and tried to stab Renny with its claws. Milsha was suddenly in the way and swung her blade in a wild arc that collided with the target and sent... her... flying back into a nearly wall. As the thing that once had been a woman peeled herself from the damaged wall, two more creatures entered the room by smashing down the doors and joining her. BGM: Egypt Central ~ White Rabbit Renny's Formation 1: [Renny / Milsha (Enforcing)] Renny's Formation 2: [Bianca (Scout)] [Nyoka (Destroyer)] Enemy's Formation: [Banshee*] [Sphinx*] [Mermaid*] Battlefield Conditions: Nothing out of the ordinary, just waxed tile floors and carpet with solid wood furnishings and walls. Weather Conditions: The room is large enough to permit some weather influences. "Professor Juniper sent me this revolutionary new Uberdex shortly before this mission," Bianca said while managing to choke back down her breakfast. "With this, I should be able to scan details even out of these poor women." * Banshee [Humanoid/Normal] ~ This unfortunate woman had once been a normal girl, but due to her commiting some kind of vile act against her lover, she was spirited away to this place in her sleep where she was found, captured, tortured, and crudely reconstructed as a horrible abomination of bruished flesh, severed limbs, medievil implements, steel and iron braces, and leather bondage gear. Some kind of technology built into her mutilated throat allows her to produce and project powerful sonic blasts with deadly accuracy. * Sphinx [Humanoid/Steel] ~ This unfortunate woman had once been a normal girl, but due to her commiting some kind of vile act against her lover, she was spirited away to this place in her sleep where she was found, captured, tortured, and crudely reconstructed as a horrible abomination of bruised flesh, severed limbs, medievil implements, steel and iron braces, and leather bondage gear. Her forearms have been brutally cleaved off and replaced with sharp and rusty bladed killing tools. She is surprisingly efficient at using these new appendages to introduce others to suffering comparable to her own. * Mermaid [Humanoid/Water] ~ This unfortunate woman had once been a normal girl, but due to her commiting some kind of vile act against her lover, she was spirited away to this place in her sleep where she was found, captured, tortured, and crudely reconstructed as a horrible abomination of bruised flesh, severed limbs, medievil implements, steel and iron braces, and leather bondage gear. Donovan just pondered on Nosferatu's answers for the rest of the time before they entered the Hungry World. The possibility that he had a chroma fragment inside of him was a very real possibility, and something he didn't want to dwell on too long as he'd risk losing himself in self-fear.
When he woke up in the Reality Shard, it was disorienting and it shook him up more than he expected. He was always used to supernatural bullshit happening, but this permeated the whole environment, and wasn't something that he could manage or potentially kill into submission. When the ghosts appeared Donovan carefully walked up to them while signaling to Calisto over the Inquiry Visor, "Stay back and don't shoot yet, I don't want to get the attention of the rest of them." As Calisto fell back to a better position Donovan walked up to the Crawling Man and began . . . curbstomping it. Flames burst from each stomp so that it would actually do damage but Donovan was disturbingly casual about it, not even blinking as he brought down his calm judgement upon it. ----------------------------- Stats |

Many thoughts muddled Pierce's mind after he lost consciousness. Jumping into swirling vortexes, apparently, promoted introspection. Irene's betrayal, Jeanette's feelings, Vladier Burkmont, Nosferatu all competed for his subconscious' attention.
Before he could drive himself crazy, he was shaken back to the land of the living by the soft feeling of Shizuka's breasts. Even before his senses fully caught up and realized he was awake, he could tell it was Shizuka's breasts. Pierce had gotten pretty good at telling his girlfriends' respective busts apart. With a groan, Pierce stood up with Shizuka's help, blinking rapidly as he regained his balance. "Right..." He looked around, finding Chizuru and Sophia approaching them. "It's just us? Everyone in one piece at least?" He asked, looking the women over to make sure. Then, he took a good look around. Logic Break was a pretty good name for this place. And apparently today it had decided to be Tetris Hell. "Great. Who the hell comes up with this stuff? What kind of crazy-ass god thinks this up?" Pierce asked aloud to no one in particular. "And what's a Sentinel anyway?" This question actually was directed at Shizuka and Chizuru. He then noticed Sophia also looking around, an expression of amazement on her face. "You okay there?" "Oh!" The scientist snapped out of her reverie, looking down meekly instead. "Y-yes. I was just wondering, how does this Reality Shard? What rules govern it? It's just- it- it's all very fascinating." She replied bashfully. "It is, but let's focus on getting out of here first. We can figure out how it all works once we regroup and you can ask some of the Kimonos, like Mika." Pierce suggested, turning instead to the enemies barring their path ahead. "First, these guys. Are they even alive?" He mused. "Well, whatever they are, focus on the Digest Hook first, before it can infect us with anything. Shizuka, soften up the Explode Organ for us." He suggested, as he released Metagross. "Do either of you know this Reality Shard, by the way? Specifically any ways the environment can be manipulated in a fight?" It was frankly a credit to Ray that he managed to spare a glance for the abominations approaching them. He was no stranger to a pretty face, but something about Irene just drew his gaze again and again. Maybe it was just the disparity between her usual appearance and her sudden youth. Maybe it was the strange sparkle in her eyes, the sheen on her skin, that belied that this was how she was really supposed to look. Or maybe it was the fact that she was actually really hot right now, even in the Atelier's shitty lighting. Ray realized it must be obvious that he was staring and tore himself away, stepping back and drawing his weapons in one swift motion. Macca was held loosely in one hand, a lighter version of the standard-issue psychic blaster in the other. The creatures' minds were so frayed, it was probably their greatest vulnerability.
He glanced briefly at Fujiko. He hardly knew her, but he certainly welcomed her presence. She'd invited him, after all. "Glad you managed to meet us. Mind staying in human form for now? You and Pizza can keep the one on the right off our backs. Irene, let's kill the other two." He recieved mute nods in response and allowed himself a small smile as he jabbed a stimpack needle into his leg. The adrenaline was good, and combat was better at he leapt at the Maiden, chaining sword slashes with psychic blasts to burn it down. He could feel the Rezonark's influence pulsing through him, and while he relished the power, it came with a strange twinge, a strange tugging at his mind. "You're right." As he allowed the cat-bot to give the Sphinx a beatdown, he gathered up some energy and released an orb up near the ceiling of the huge room. The minor sun gave off the same pure and intense warmth as the much larger one. "Alright! Everything is ready for you now Milsha! Milsha roars as her whole body and TekSaber glows in blood-red light. "Signature Technique! Fatal Five Strike!" She rushes the Mermaid like a demon and unleashes a varied assault involving the TekSaber's brutal blade and the advanced weaponry contained within. The end result was that the Mermaid's top half was severed from her artificial bottom half. The tail lands on the nearby stairs while the torso flopped to the ground near Banshee's position. The Mermaid raises her bleeding face, stretches out one of her hands, and finally collapses. "Don't you think that was a bit excessive," Bianca asked Milsha with quivering lips. "Wurr PATCA, sugar. Excessiff fer e'er'un else ain't nurleh excessiff 'nough fer us," Milsha drawled after flicking blood off of her blade and then slinging the massive hunk of forged steel back onto her right shoulder. "Be it in combat or when fanservice is called for. Eh, Ren-Ren? Besides, these women are suffering for every second they remain in this living nightmare. Killing them is a necessary sin and an act of mercy." "I guess so," Bianca breathed. "I heard it was bad in Honmyr, but I never imagined this." "Don't give up, nya!" Nyoka cheered brightly after cracking her bloody knuckles. "If you cannot do this, some other really pretty girl will have to, nya." Bianca blushed and gazed off to the side. "Y-yeah." - Milsha [Attack / Flamethrower / Sphinx]: Milsha deals good damage to Sphinx. Sphinx is looking seriously injured. "Put a fork in 'er, she's almost done," Milsha sighed as she readied her blade for the next attack. The Sphinx is pretty much doomed for the next round and thus the Banshee wouldn't even make it back in time to try and turn the tables. I'm moving you ahead to your boss fight, Menarker." Milsha, feeling that she might as well just finish what she started, took it upon herself to kill the Sphinx and then the Banshee with the assistance of Renny and Nyoka. "Let's find this Sentinel fast," Milsha said after rubbing her TekSaber clean on the carpeting. "I don't think any of us wanna be here anymore." "I need to go find three gemstones, nya," Nyoka told them. "It's how we get into the dungeon below us, nya. I can go get them and come back for you if you want, nya." Milsha looked at Bianca. Moving around the mansion meant running into more of those freaks. But Bianca slapped both of her cheeks and put on a brave face. "We should go with you, Miss Nyoka. After all the noise we made here, I'm kinda surprised more of them haven't shown up." Milsha nodded with a smile. "We'll make a Watchman out of you, yet." "For some reason, I can't draw any satisfaction from that." As they feared, moving through the mansion did result in additional fights, but on much superior terms. Nyoka didn't get lost at all and lead them from room to room with perfect sense of direction. "If you know where the gemstones are, then you've been here before and already solved the puzzle, right?" "Reality Shards 'reset' themselves at random intervals, nya," Nyoka said as they stopped near a door. "Otherwise, this mansion would be completely clear of enemies, nya. Anyways, just wait out here, nya. I forgot how to solve the trap in this room, nya." When Nyoka entered the room and secured the door behind her, Bianca frowned. "I hear something." Renny and Milsha could vaguely hear it as well. It sounded like a choir singing, but Renny couldn't exactly determine where it was coming from. Suddenly, a very loud, grinding sound was heard from inside the room Nyoka entered. Milsha hurried and tried the doorknob, but it was securely locked. "Nyoka, what's going on in there?! Are you okay?!" "Step away from the door, nya." Milsha did so, and then Nyoka's hand smashed right through the middle of the door. Renny could see that the door contained a solid steel plate, but apparently catgirl androids weren't to be stopped by such silly contraptions. And with one sudden burst of motion, Nyoka pulled the door clear off the hinges and yanked it into the room with her, casually discarding it onto the floor. Judging from the destruction they saw within, Nyoka must have tripped a powerful hydraulic press trap in the ceiling when she tried to solve the puzzle and acquire the gemstone, but that also did not stop catgirl androids. "I thought I did it right, nya," Nyoka confessed, then presented the third beautiful gemstone. "Now we have to go to the master's study, nya. That's where we use the gemstones and get into the dungeon, nya." "And you're certain the Sentinel couldn't have been anywhere else?" Bianca demanded in desperation. "We've explored the entire manor, nya," Nyoka apologized. "If the Sentinel is anywhere at all, it's in the dungeon, nya." The master's study was the perfect room for... well, studying. No windows so you didn't have to deal with any annoying sunlight and a decent table for a lamp, a book, and a tray of snacks and tea. But there was something odd. There was a display case with three large books evenly spaced apart in there. One book was entitled The Ruby Heart, another was called The Sapphire Tear, and the final bore the title of The Emerald Egg. Renny found it so simple that it was just plain childish. The gemstones they had found were a large ruby in a heart shape, a sapphire in the shape of a tear, and an egg-shaped emerald. Nyoka strolled up to the display case and brought her right fist down upon it with just a fraction of her true might. Bianca brought up her Uberdex and scanned it out of curiousity. "Three inch bulletproof, reinforced glass," Bianca observed loudly. "If we didn't have Nyoka to provide a shortcut, we would probably also need to find the key to the case." Nyoka tore the rest of the glass free from the case and then opened the books, only to reveal that they weren't books at all. The books were merely casings with perfect hollowings that allowed Nyoka to properly insert each gemstone into their respective books. Once she placed all three gemstones into their recepticles, one of the otherwise normal bookshelves in the room slid down into the floor, revealing a staircase leading down in a spiral with guttering torches providing the only light. "The singing has gotten quite a bit louder," Bianca said. "It must be coming from down there, and that frightens me." Down the steps they went, which lead into a short hallway. There were five doors in total, two on either side and one at the other end. Milsha walked up and carefully opened one of the doors on the side, but then lurched back suddenly, holding her mouth and nose. With her free hand, she quickly shut the door and stepped away from it. "The scent of blood is nauseating," Milsha coughed. "I guess these rooms are where the magic happens. Normal women go in, horrid abominations come out." Nyoka walked ahead of them and checked the same room Milsha did, and the three other doors. "No Sentinel as I thought, nya," Nyoka sighed, looking towards the only door they haven't tried. "Whenever you're ready, nya." The room that they braced themselves before entering lead to something that immediately burned itself into their minds and would never leave them. It was like a church, with thick carpeting and long, empty pews. Directly ahead stood a blonde woman who was conducting a choir using a bonesaw and the choir was- "Sick," Bianca said, and the others had to agree. The choir was composed of twelve women arranged in two rows of six, all of them blinded with crude metal stakes jutting from thick leather bindings wrapped around their eyes. Their arms and lower bodies disappeared into a giant mechanical framework, but judging from the blood on their bodies, they probably didn't have those parts anymore. They sang a beautiful but otherwise mindless melody, apparently able to see the woman before them without having their eyes. As Milsha stepped forward, the woman raised the bonesaw and brought it near her own throat. The 'choir' stopped instantly. Then the woman turned around. Renny wasn't sure what to expect, but this woman wasn't in good shape. She had crude prothetics on both of her legs and one of her arms, her face was almost entirely hidden by bloodied bandages leaving only her right eye exposed, and a fair amount of her scalp had been ripped clean out. She wore normal clothes underneath a lab coat, and all of it was torn and in desperate need of a wash. Bianca scanned her with the Uberdex. "Even sicker," Bianca said, putting on the most emotionless expression she could muster given the situation. "All of her injuries are self-inflicted." "It couldn't be helped," the woman said. "When I came here, there was no one to make me pay for my sins so I had to conduct my own repentance." "Repentance?" Milsha asked her. "This is the Maven Manor," the woman told them and, with a regal flourish, bowed to the new arrivals. "And I am Cynthia Hammond. It is a pleasure to meet you. This manor is where we women come to repent for the sins we have commited against our lovers." "This Reality Shard comes from an alternate history of a world called Earth, nya," Nyoka told them. "When women cheat on their husbands, steal vast amounts of money from them, or commit other sins, the men will somehow learn of a way to have them banished to this place, nya. Once they do what they must, the women go to sleep one night and wake up here, nya. Then they are captured, tortured, turned into monsters, and stalk the manor seeking the next woman who is spirited away to this place, nya. That's what Mika discovered by researching this Reality Shard, nya." While Nyoka spoke, the woman Cynthia looked carefully at Milsha, Bianca and Nyoka. "What are you doing here?" "Huh?" Bianca chirped. "A sinful woman can always recognize her own kind," Cynthia explained. "But the three of you haven't commited the kinds of sins that would justify being brought here. I don't even think that any of you have boyfriends, yet. I cannot pass judgment upon women such as you and since that is the case, would you please leave? I am trying to perfect this one piece." Milsha grit her teeth. Then she stepped forward and leveled the TekSaber at Cynthia's face. "What, you just expect me to ignore what you've done to these women and go about my business, bitch? I'm not about to just ignore what you've done here." Cynthia was unphased by Milsha's anger or display of strength. "All I'm doing is punishing evil." "Acts like what you've just described are horrible and should be punished, I agree," Milsha said. "But I can't believe that anyone would think being isolated from reality and having these terrible things done to you is the proper method of paying for these crimes. And did you even think that maybe the men could've been given some time so they could think things through? They could've talked it out! It doesn't have to end this way, for anyone!" Cynthia looked at Milsha, then shrugged. "I understand," she said, then negligently tossed the bonesaw aside and tore off the remnants of her lab coat. Four powerful mechanical limbs emerged from behind her body and were tipped with vicious implements. An industrial torch. A heavy duty circular saw. An oversized scalpel. And an arc welder. Then Cynthia retrieved what could only be described as the bastard child of a warhammer and a meat tenderizer, soaked in enough blood and thin flesh to suggest it was her primary means of turning women into monsters. "We should be careful," Bianca said. "The damage those Sirens can do probably isn't all that much even after several attacks, but Cynthia won't die easily like all the other girls. She's gotta have some tricks up her sleeves." * Cynthia: In a bizarre alternate version of Earth, women who commit sins against their lovers are spirited away while they sleep, awakening in Maven Manor. Cynthia Hammond was the very first to 'arrive' here, and upon deciding that she was here to repent for her actions, she conducted terrible acts of mutilation upon her own body. Ever since then, she has been capturing other women who wound up here and subjecting them to similar torture, turning them into mindless psychopaths that suffer endlessly. She fights with an inhuman fanatical zeal, believing that this is her very destiny and her duty to God. * Siren Chorus: Twelve women were ripped apart and built into one gigantic machine. Like the Banshee, they can create and project sonic blasts from their throats, and they can sing haunting melodies that can induce sleep or demoralize their victims. The individual Sirens that make up the chorus are not particularly strong and their attacks do not deal much damage, but when combined, they can quickly wear down their target.
