Preparation Phase

"Looks like the syrup is a reactant chemical of some kind," Calisto observed as she reached for the next chemical. "It probably doesn't do anything by itself, but rather amplifies effects that we place on the enemy."

"And...this one affects statistics," Calisto pointed out. "For such a powerful-looking concoction, I feel the effects could be a lot more potent if we heat it up or chill it."

"A type changer?" Calisto poked her right cheek. "Maybe we can find some way to make Rodger's types match up so you can deal ultra-effective damage with your best attacks."

- Kiyomi [Construct / Spectral Evolith]: Kiyomi constructed a Spectral Evolith!

This has been the first time for many to see a Spectral Evolith, but it looked pretty much what one might expect. An angry human-skull with glowing specks of cold blue light in the eye sockets, half obscured by a gothic-looking hood and mantle. Ragged cloth hung uselessly from the mantle and when the cloth ended, all they could see were two long humanoid bone claws and a spiked spinal column that connected to no pelvis.

"Oh, fiddlesticks," Belswaine swore through some coughing. "I haven't been keeping up with poor Rodger's physical upkeep."
"Which means that it's going to miss with its attacks a lot more with its slow, clumsy attacks than it will hit," Calisto grinned a little. "That might have just saved Donovan's life."

* Misfortune ~ A new special-type affliction that halves the target's Acc and Eva statistics. Given the conditions of the physical bodies of both Belswaine and Rodger, they aren't going to be really good at landing or dodging blows until something happens.

A great turn of events, aside from his flamethrower having little visible effect on Rodger. Donovan kept an eye toward the other half of the battle, taking note of Belswaine's actions. "Kiyomi! Clear the rest! Calisto, Mustard sludge on Belswaine and start heating up our cyan vials!"

It wasn't fun, having to fight the slow fight, but at least stalling the bear would allow him more time to fish for data and finish it off if it wouldn't burn/corrode to death. He focused his speed, becoming even more reactive to the environment, and projected a blast of feathers from his sleeves at Rodger, making its movements even less effective.

"Good to know, although the Siren's are pretty much down now. Keep looking for anything else. Good work on knocking them out Nyoka."

As the battle proceeded though, the Sirens started to twitch and a few of them raised themselves up in combat.

"Eh!? The siren's are reviving on their own?" Renny remarked as he rethought how he was going to approach this.

"Nyoka, can you attempt to get Cynthia as close to the generator as possible so Milsha can ignite the fuel from afar? I'll help keep her off her toes."

The Gallade pokebrid shifted as its pokemon features grew more pronounced and defined, Renny spending rage energy into it. His normally calm and kindly expression grew sharp and intense, as he glared at Cynthia as he attempted to weaken her will and concentration with psycho-pathic energy.

"What you got coming to you is only a fraction of the misery you've caused. I'll force you to recognize it."

He then bolted into the fray alongside Milsha and Swampert, letting them set up the first wave of attacks before he dove in from Cynthia's flank. Fueled entirely on rage and emotion, he slashed upward with potent astral energy toward her liver and diaphragm. An unyielding force directed with precision toward some vital points. He leapt backward as he cleared the way for Nyoka to deliver an awesome rising punch and for Milsha to spark the generator.

"Bianca, you might want to take cover behind a pew!"

Preparation Phase:
- Renny heals up Swampert 30% of his max health with Attentive Care.
- Recall Togekiss. No pokemon replacing Togekiss at this time.
- Renny Paradigm Shifts! All main stats goes up temporarily by +2Lv (+6points) (and the maximum stages goes up to +8). 4 RP spent!
- Renny uses Psychic Pokebrid Action (External) to possibly afflict Confusion status on Cynthia.

Attacks:
- Milsha/Swampert attacks with Unarmed again. 8AP spent
- Renny uses Sig-Tech "Valiant Rush!" 8 rage is spent to deal two Astral Type hits to Cynthia (4RP per hit). Power is equal to Renny's Slayer Attack stat (13). +4 Lvl to Attack make his attack stat 25. 25 + 13 = 38. Both attacks auto-crit, multiplying the damage by x2.0 after taking in account Cynthia's reduced defenses.
- STRATAGEM SHIFT: Nyoka uses "Nyoka Shoryuken" to 'eject' Cynthia against/into the generator that Bianca mentioned.

Valiant Rush DetailsSignature Tech: Valiant Rush
Description: Renny goes into a passionate frenzy when his allies and friends are in danger and personally enters the fray, inflicting damage on any targets of his choice with multiple blows that foes find difficult to endure.
Cost: 4 RP per hit. For every ally in Renny's team below 33% hitpoints (thus "in the red") or knocked out (or for every trainer down to 2 or less pokemons including 0), reduce the cost by 4. For each of Renny's pokemons knocked out, reduce the rage cost by 2. It's possible for the technique to be free if the reduced cost is equal to or more than the cost he pays for.
Effect: For every "payment" of 4 rage, Renny does Almighty type damage to a target of choice that counts as a crit as if it succeeded in bypassing de/buffs. Thus he can choose to focus each individual hit on one target or divide the hits among any number of foes. The power of each blow is equal to his slayer attack power x2.0 (3.0 with Sniper ability) and doesn't benefit further from crit (it counts as already critting), although the move still gains in strength with use of attack stat boost as normal. Like an ideal 'normal' crit, any buffs on the enemy or any debuffs on Renny that would reduce this ability's power is ignored.
This move can only be used once every three turns regardless of how much rage he used or how many or few hits he has done.

"With that much crippling loss to his physical offensive abilities, his claws will hurt about as bad as a prick from a toothpick at this point," Calisto noted.
Donovan could only hope she was right. Belswaine was probably going to fix Rodger's extremely slow attacks quickly.

Calisto hurried over to the table and pulled out a sniper shell with a red band coloring near the tip. She uncorked two of the cyan-colored solutions and, after a brief struggle, she broke open the shell and poured the strange liquid chemical evenly between the solutions. Then she corked the concoctions and set them somewhere safe. "Oxidizing agent," Calisto said. "Ignites and burns white hot within about four seconds of being exposed to air. Takes a courageous idiot just to craft these shells. Praise be to Honmyr's advanced tech for making them easy to mass-produce and thus quite affordable."

"A moment, Rodger." Belswaine said, her hidden eyes serious.
Rodger gave a dull roar.

"Zombies are effective guardians, sure," Belswaine sighed. "But they're so damned high maintenance. I exhaust half of all the chemicals I synthesize just keeping all of its legs attached. Anyways, Rodger-dearie, go ahead and give your attacks a shot now."

Great, clearing the table didn't do much for us. Might as well commit to our gimmick. Donovan thought as he tried to force some of the rage buildup out of his system, finding himself engulfed in his own flame in a way that felt like it was his own ki that was radiating destructively."Interesting . . . Kiyomi, clear the rest of the chemicals! Calisto, Cyan solution on me, and blast Belswaine if you see her try to play with her chemicals again!" He focused back at Rodger. "I'd have to disagree about zombie guards. They burn too easily."

Action Phase:

Donovan-10 RP) Use Heat Aura Synchtech. Donovan gains Flame Body ability and deals 5 power spec/fire attacks (ignores Donovan's offensive buffs and target's defensive buffs) whenever contact is made between Donovan and an enemy for the next three turns. On third turn after everyone's actions (upkeep phase?), tech ends and Donovan uses Blast Burn on the highest health target without suffering from cooldown effect.

Twiloch: No action.

Calisto: (-4 AP). Toss one of the Heated Twinkling Cyan Solution at Donovan. (-14 RP, Strategem Shift) Piercing Explosive on Belswaine, delayed until either she synthesizes a chemical, attempts to use an existing chemical or at the end of her action if she does not do either of those actions.

-Spectral Evolith: (-12 AP) Shadow ball x3 at remaining chemicals on table 2. Preserve actions if all chemicals are destroyed before all attacks resolve.

"Destruction Technique!" Nyoka shouted as she seemed to teleport to get inside Cynthia's attack range. Cynthia barely had enough time to look at the poised robotic catgirl before-

"Nyoka Nyoryuken!"

Milsha imagined one of those boxing mouthguards falling out of Cynthia's mouth as the attack launched the psychotic woman into the sky and back until she crashed right into the two tiers of Sirens.

Cynthia's Signature Techniques require additional Rage to activate with just one arm [SignTechs +4 RP]. All Sirens have been overkilled [Overkill].
- Stratagem Shift [Dismemberment]: Cynthia takes 1375 damage [HP = 7563].
- Stratagem Shift [Explosive Damage / Cynthia]: Cynthia is immune to the explosion.

Cynthia staggered forth from the explosion, sluggishly dragging that brutish oversized meat tenderizer behind her. She was bleeding very badly, was now on fire, and her eyes were barely managing to remain open. She once again, against protesting muscles and probably a few broken bones, slung her weapon over her shoulder and reassumed her stance...

...only to violently regurgitate a sickening mix of bile, blood and partially digested pastries and then collapse face-first into the puddle that she vomited.

Bianca stared at the fallen Cynthia in horror, then recomposed herself and aimed the Uberdex at Cynthia. "Severe concussion," Bianca reported. "If we leave her alone, I think she'll eventually recover."

Milsha blinked as she slid off of Swampert. "She's on fire, you know," Milsha told her. "She took on an explosion, point blank, and her left arm has been blown clean off. How the hell does someone survive that?!"
Biance closed her Uberdex and put it away with a shrug. "Chaos theory or something like that," she decided. "Cynthia truly believes in her convictions. She's not going to give up on doing what she feels is her purpose in life as long as she draws breath."

A Winner Is Renny

HarmoNote: "In the future, I'll look at HP damage potential between large and small formations when fighting bosses to determine just how much HP boss fights should have when the formations are small. This will definitely not be the first time you engage in boss fights with few allies."

Milsha took one long look at the fallen Cynthia. Then, with a long sigh, she put away her TekSaber. "I just don't have it in me to finish her off anymore," she said with finality.
"In that case, I'll go find the Sentinel really quick, nya," Nyoka said. "When the Reality Shard resets, Cynthia will just return to how she was anyways, nya."

Nyoka found the Sentinel quickly, but before they could leave, Bianca went and found a surgical cover. She did her best to put out the fire on Cynthia's body and then covered her with the surgical cover. "It only seemed like something nice to do," Bianca told them.

The Sentinel was basically a large hovering black and violet jellyfish with a large red eyeball hovering inside the bulbous umbrella. It didn't speak, much to the comfort of Bianca. It did make a bizarre sound that could be thought of as breathing, which also didn't make sense. The Hungry World was definitely one of those "forget what you think you know about yadda-yadda-yadda" places.

"Just touch one of its tentacles, nya." Nyoka instructed the others. "And don't freak out when it uses other tentacles to grasp your arm, nya. It needs to do that as part of verification, nya. Once it knows that you don't belong in this place, it'll send you straight into the proper Hungry World, nya."
"Will it be dangerous on the other side?" Milsha asked the catgirl.
Nyoka could only shrug. "Typically not, nya. The Sentinels are very selective about where they send users, nya. I'm positive that it will take us somewhere safe, nya."
"Guess I'm up first then, huh." Milsha volunteered, and with a bit of hesitation, she reached out her left hand to gently hold onto one of the Sentinel's tentacles.

One after another, they each exited the Reality Shard and found themselves in the Hungry World proper. Renny's mind went to work piecing everything together to take in the whole scene.

First off, blood-red snow. They were standing in it and it was gently falling from the sky. And it was actually nice and warm. Nyoka told them that it was that color because it was saturated in something called Infernal Mana. Infernal Mana was used to sustain the power and, in most cases, the life of the demons that called the Hungry World home. Even though half-demons like Chizuru and Rio could function well enough in a world with no Infernal Mana, full demons like Shizuka and Tsubasa and fallen angels like Kirie would become significantly weaker without it. Fortunately, having the gateway that connected to the Corpsemire in Pokemon World open was sufficient to allow demons to function well enough even without there being Infernal Mana in the Pokemon World.

Next, the sky. It was clouded completely over in black clouds with crimson lightning arcing through the otherwise impenetrable darkness. Renny noted that the clouds started to swirl around a large hole in the otherwise-complete overcast, but that maelstrom in the sky was occupied by what Renny could only guess was the largest and most bloodshot giant eyeball he would ever see in his life. Nyoka told him that he was looking at the Overseer, the ruler of the Hungry World. "Not even flying demons can reach him up there, nya," Nyoka said as she lead the group. "Whenever they fly close enough, a mighty and oppressive force causes them to just give it up, nya."
Milsha couldn't seem to take her eyes away from the Overseer in the sky. "I'd never say that he looks weak or anything. Merely the opposite. But what has prevented other demons from challenging him for power?"

"I don't think the Overseer has ever given it a name, but we typically call it Hypermobbing, nya."
"Hypermobbing?"
"The Overseer can analyze you in your entirety and then instantly produce an army of you that is loyal to him, nya." Nyoka explained. "Like ten-thousand Rennys or a million Biancas, created all at once in the blink of an eye and ready for battle, nya."

A million Biancas? The Overseer is suddenly the best thing ever. But the ability to instantly take your strongest foes and create entire armies of ready-made loyal clones was an ability that none of them had any idea how to counter.

Nyoka pointed to the distance at what looked to be a castle similar to the one in the Hiroshiho Empire. "Mizuno Castle, nya," Nyoka said. "If we're going to find all the others who got separated from us, I'm sure my masters will have brought them there, nya."
