Battle Royales are NOT allowed within the roleplaying forums. This intices people to play overpowered characters and is also a notion for people to be able to spam. Apologies, but please do not create a roleplay for a battle royale. Thank you.

Wait, so the whole Avvy Arena RP was completely illegal? And furthermore, if RPs that entice people to play overpowered characters are verboten, then what of NPF Avatars altogether? Is there an exception to the rule here or what?

Well, I just so happened to be trawling through this thread and saw this. Seeing how I'm running the current NPF Avatars RP, I thought I might as well jump in and give a reply to this most pressing of month old questions.
There have been certain problems with people just steam-rolling over everything in their path before, but this time I've been firmly cracking the whip to try and keep things in line. Wanted to bring out more of the general crazy hijinks that such an odd mish-mash of people could have. After all, the first one that Toastburner made was all about the hijinks - they were out to save Christmas after all. If memory serves, they blew up Santa's Workshop and rolled the old man himself in a ditch, leaving him for dead. Overpowered characters was more a problem of some people getting carried away than a flaw in the RP. Same problem as any RP really - just have to make sure everyone behaves.

Question! Question! *raises hand and jumps up and down*
Okay, this might be a little off the current topic but since this is the question section, I thought I would post this here. ^^ I've done some role-playing with friends over email and at some comic stores in person. This is the first time I'd be trying it over the internet. I read up on the rules and stuff but I'm still kind of a newbie at this.. ![]() Anyhoo - my question is, is there a good RPG here to start at?? Maybe one for us novices that are still getting the hang of it. Entering some of the big ones already playing seems a little daunting, but I suppose I could try it. I don't want to get yelled at for doing something wrong. ![]() So... comments, advice, suggestions anyone?? Thank you in advance!! :whee:

I would suggest you join Empire of Maniacs. As the title suggests, it's a very not serious RP, so if you mess up, no one will care.
Edit - Assuming AB still accepts sign ups. As for a new one, the only one that is still in the sign ups is the one linked below. http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=19679

There aren't really any particularly good ones to start at...most RPs close sign ups once they get started. Wait, that came out wrong. What I meant to say is that one RP isn't really any better for getting started with than any other, but it's generally taboo to try to jump into an active RP unless the GM OKs it.
Your best bet would be to look for an sign-up thread in the Sign-up and Discussion sub-forum. The best advice I can give is to just take the plunge, join an RP that's starting, and be ready to listen to the advice of others.

...going through each of the posts. Some people are experienced, and ask detailed questions not pertaining to the general nature of what it is I'd like to know.
First: What are the different T# styles, and how do they work? Second: Please define para roleplay clearly. I have had technical issues that resulted in my being removed from a roleplay session. Third: What actions are considered "voidable", and how should I judge the "dodgeability" (there, I said it) of an action, regardless of how the "word" is to be applied? Fourth: Is it valid to create a profile somewhere on the internet and portray a link to it for this forum? And lastly: My favorite character is weak primarily to prolonged combat. I'm still exploring his nature, so other strengths/weaknesses could be added removed. It's a complicated crossover, however, the summary would be an Wolf Demon who is alive only through the fusion of his soul with the Philosopher's Stone, and fights using high level darkness magic to form shadows into a variety of applicable weaponry. Is the lack of a flexible weakness incorrect? Also, what would be the correct term for an anime-styled furry, much like Inuyasha in that regard?

Hello Rubedo. Welcome to the forums.
Basically, a lot of those terms are more holdovers from the older forums. The majority of RP's here are freeform. As the rules section said, its basically just describing what you are doing. Generally, the main problem it can run into is doing something to another character without that player's consent. This is why actions affecting another player should be left open ended, so the player may decide how their character is affected. This leads to 'dodgability'. Essentially, how well described the attack, how much effort the character put into it, any advantages the players might have from the circumstances of the fight and, quite frankly, how cool the attack was should all factor into how affected you are by the attack. Naturally, a throwaway attack is easily avoided, while a character burning off all their energy into some massive explosion of killiness would most likely not be something you'd emerge from unscathed. It's all down to what seems appropriate. To not do this is godmodding - you're either plain out saying what your attacks have done or are making yourself basically invincible by shrugging off other player attacks. Naturally, as it frustrates people and obstructs the flow of the RP, it is to be avoided. Of course, its not godmodding if you're doing just a little bit of description of other's actions to flesh out the post. A little bit of back and forth in a sword fight which then ends with your character attmpting to break the stalemate for example. The main guide is the significance of the action - actions of no real consequence are generally safe. Frequently you have a lot more leeway with enemies being controlled by a GM, especially if they're a mob of enemies. It basically comes down to respecting the other players and using your common sense. You don't necessarily have to give a character a weakness, all-rounders are fine. It's simply many people find characters with some flaw or vulnerability to be more interesting. As for correct term: whatever it is you call it. Inuyasha is a half demon, but your character might be something else. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know of a dnd 3.5 book with rules for ascending to godhood?
Or do they even have rules for it/is it possible in that world? |

As far as I am aware, there is no 3.5 D&D suppliment with specific rules for it.
However, CREATING a deity is outlined, and using said outline it would be a fairly simple task to become a god. Also in Forgotten Realms you just need someone to worship you and bam rank 0 god so think on that one too. |
