The American election system is sort of bonkers in a way where a lot of our votes for president don't actually matter. Like, I mean that literally.

Since you win states and each state is worth a certain amount of points, if a candidate doesn't have a chance of winning the state it doesn't matter one whit whether or not you vote for them. Example: Voting for a Democrat doesn't matter in South Carolina, because South Carolina hasn't gone to a Democrat nominee in forty years. It matters in swing states, but if you don't live in a swing state that particular vote is worthless to you.

Seriously though. At least vote out of spite. One less vote for an asshole is a message, even if you're in the minority.

Strange, I thought you were American too Mauve, but it sounds like maybe I was mistaken there.
I dislike both America's present state-by-state Electoral College system and the commonly cited alternative of switching to a pure national popular vote. I don't really think there's a perfect solution. It's all messy and it's all prospectively flawed no matter where the lines are drawn.

The gerrymandering in Congressional races is really what irritates me most about America's system, though. Like, as flawed as the Electoral College may seem, it's infinitely better than how we presently handle Congressional districts, which has basically ensured the Republicans have an ironclad grip on the House of Representatives no matter how the country votes.

What I'm really curious to know is, how the hell did the Clinton campaign not have a better plan for the last week prior to the election? Her campaign's just allowed the FBI / e-mail story to dominate the headlines for nearly a week, now. What's up with that? Didn't they have any remotely decent opposition stories to drop on Trump? What the heck is their game plan here? Why doesn't the Clinton campaign appear to have a cohesive final-week gameplan against Trump?

It's like you're watching a football game and the team's up by 2 points with five minutes to go in the game but you look at the head coach who's been so prepared throughout and all the sudden he just throws his arms up in the air and is like "Crap, I don't know what to do anymore, let's just punt the ball on first down and see what happens."

It's funny that you think large media outlets would actually run any opposition stories on Trump.
