I can't have conversations with my family about Donald Drumpf. It's not even that they voted for him (most of them, at least, either voted third party or did not vote at all.)

It's that they're just all so sheltered by virtue of their incomes and their privilege and they have no idea what minorities are actually going through in this country right now. They're just watching the mainstream media and all the mainstream media is reporting now is Drumpf's conciliatory speeches where he actually sounds slightly sane for a change. My mother is convinced this means that the old Drumpf was all 'just an act' and that Drumpf is really a completely reasonable, decent human being who will not fuck this country sideways.

It is insane that stories like Drumpf's eagerness to continue his plans to keep a registry on all Muslims and the sheer amount of overt bigotry going on in the streets as Drumpf supporters harass anyone who doesn't look like them have been buried. You know what else has been buried? Drumpf's getting rid of gun-free zones! ALL gun-free zones, even those around elementary schools, because fuck children.

Fuck Godwin's Law, I don't give a fucking shit about Godwin, and if you invoke Godwin's Law on me fuck you too.

The reality is simple, this is Hitler's Rise 2.0. These were the exact conditions, the exact atmosphere. Hitler also did not win the majority of votes in his country. The media treated him like a joke as he went around taverns in Germany and incited racist, bigoted people by playing to their worst fears and stereotypes. The media continued to treat him like a joke after he won, assuming that better politicians in Germany (like our current Republican leadership) would rein him in before anything too crazy happened.

Here's what going to happen next: Drumpf will make some controversial dumb newbie moves that will insult even some moderates in his coalition. Just like Hitler! And then, Drumpf will realize his easy way to unify the country: a terrorist attack!! I don't know whether he'll have his own proxies act or -- perhaps more likely -- if he'll just enable the circumstances that allow another attack to occur, but he'll use the attack as justification to consolidate his power and to silence any criticism.

What's next? Silencing the media, of course! Which Drumpf has already suggested he's prime to do because he has no respect for the first Amendment, unlike the second, which he apparently holds dear. Get ready for Breitbart and Fox News to replace CNN as your 'mainstream media.' Hell, Drumpf's already talking about bringing in a senior level person on Breitbart onto his administration's team.

And it's like: Nobody's seeing this. Everyone wants to play nice! Let's all come to together and rally around the flag and pray for President Drumpf!!! Everyone in the media is petrified of offending 'the will of the American people' despite the fact that only 25% of the country voted for Drumpf, more people technically voted for Clinton, and still more people are scared shitless of everything about Donald Drumpf.

Here come the Nazis. Sorry in advance for World War III; even more frightening, this time we have to root for America to lose so the good guys can win!

The reports that I have read about incidents on college campuses and that Trump is "definitely" going to have muslims register to a database and that he can't see why that's not different from the Nazis registering the Jews...

I'm in a blue state, and it is my hope that our communities can come together to help those that need it elsewhere, to do our part to unite with the rest of our nation to do what we can to keep us from moving backwards.

The most concerning part of that interview wasn't that he couldn't see the difference so much as he didn't. When a reporter asked that was different from Nazi Germany, Trump replied repeatedly "you tell me."

Which means that he is, in fact, well aware that it's the same thing, which means our country, with no hyperbole involved whatsoever, literally elected a president that consciously ran on Nazi platforms.

And again, that's not hyperbole whatsoever as he had the full support of neo-nazis around the globe. Every president gets compared to Hitler by the people who don't like them, but this time it's actually an apt comparison and that's NUTS.
