Seriously, the video explains itself. there is very little i can add on to it aside from the fact that its a real product that is actually coming out (not just an idea) and that according to the developers, everty software shown in the video comes with the glasses out of the box.

So... yeah...! the future is getting pretty damn awesome right about now...

I'm dubious about if they'll actually pull through with the software, as this kind of thing is extremely context-sensitive (and that's BEFORE you try to synchronize it with other nearby units). While we have made more and more steps in making software that can analyze the environment (disclaimer: in every camera lab that isn't developing the Kinect), it's still something that's an imperfect process.

But if they could pull it off, I would buy it in a heartbeat. This is the future we dream of having in our hands.

I was looking into other existing AR glasses and ones of this quality do exist. These are what are called generation 3 or 4. Ones that can analyze objects in real time and relay contextual information to the user. Google Glass is gen 1 as it mostly just projects new information. Its rather poor at overlays partially because it uses a camera where ones like these feed information from the point of view as well as being stereoscopic.

The reason google isn't marketing a device like this is because its really freakin ugly, and bulky and there is no way your average consumer is going to wear this thing in their daily lives. I mean even Google Glass is pushing things on if people will feel dumb wearing it.

AR or 'Holographic' stuff always seems kind of unimpressive to me due to lack of really any kind of tactile feedback. Like, the chess game would be cool if there was some kind of pressure-feedback glove or finger-attachment to play with? Obv that, and much more, will come down the road but it seems like we actually have the tech for it now so it's kind of a bummer that really the only thing holding us back is like, market demand or w/e
