And as for cool and/or emotive songs...I really like Hazy Shade of Winter. I dunno why, but it makes me think of the Wheel of Time books. Also, the opening themes from Cowboy Bebop and GITS: Stand Alone Complex. Pretty much anything by Yoko Kanno rocks.

I love the part in "Brown-eyed Handsome Man" where you can tell Wanda Jackson is trying not to laugh having to sing the lines about Venus di Milo losing both her arms in a wrestlin' match to win herself that man.

In a sudden re-defining of my music collection, I would like to change Televetors to Televators Live at the Electric Ballroom. That performance of it is the most touching version I've ever heard. A tad off subject, but does anyone know a way to get the audio off the .mpg without shelling out cash?
I'd also like to add the following from Elliott Smith. These I can't help but sign to, even though when I sing its more like a crawking or an airy tortured scream... They are mostly saddening, but that's cool for me... The White Lady Loves You More, Needle in the Hay, Between the Bars, Christian Brothers, Satellite, Alphabet Town, Clementine, Speed Trials, Alameda, Miss Misery, 2:45 AM, and Say Yes. Cupid's Trick and Pictures of Me I don't get sad to, but I also love. And Pictures of Me has a wierd melody: I had never heard it before, I can swear that, yet it sounds eerily familiar...

"Chords of Life" from Joe Satriani's Strange Beautiful Music is the only song i know that can actually instill happiness in me (probably due to it just being some awesome instramentals rather than some jackass crooning about how great life is in a contrived way). "I Hung my Head" from Johny Cash's American Recordings I, and his cover of "Hurt" on American Recordings IV are both that good sort of depressing that you can't get form whiny emo kids.

Patty Griffin - Kite
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/patty.../kitesong.html A short but hauntingly beautiful melody. First heard it on an episode of Joan of Arcadia.
