Yeah, at first I was going "Okay, way to go Nintendo, you've made a goddamn remote control dildo!" but after reading the article I see how this could be good.
If you have any speculations, read the article and rest assured that Nintendo often makes strange ideas, such as the DS, but it always comes about for the best. Then we ignore situations like the Virtual Boy, and pray that they learned their lesson.

When you try new things, you're bound to end up with a few catastrophic failures. I like to classify virtual boy as one of these.

But they Did learn their lesson.
the guy who made the virtual boy IS DEAD... which is sad cause the DS looks like the game and watch. In any case I am sure nintendo can and will make games Great once again

Soooo much to mention here.
First off, the Revolution's controller uses the same technology as the Wavebird wireless controller for the Gamecube. I own one, and the only thing it lacks is Rumble, which this has. Even then, the Rev's rumored to have USB ports and/or Gamecube controller ports on it too. Or just use the Wavebird, most likely. The reason they had the X's were likely as someone already said, and to also prevent someone from running off with the demos, or just walking out of optimum/effective range. "The thing stopped working after I walked away, it is teh sux!!11" isn't the image you want journalists to have of your new toy. Secondly, this thing is a glorified analog stick. It just now works in 3 dimensions instead of a simple plane. Not only that, but it is apparently sensitive enough that you don't need to be whipping your arms around like a spaz. Thirdly, the question of portability comes up. As I said, it's just a fancy analog stick. And if you're worried about portabilty, you should be thinking about the differences between the CPUs for the Xbox 360 and PS3. I doubt that code developed for the Cell is going to translate well to either of the other consoles, and vice versa. So this worry is pointless because the other consoles have already had their dirty way with the concept of portabilty. From a business standpoint, third parties should be clamoring to the Revolution. Remember, the main focus of Nintendo lately has been to bring new gamers into the fold. People who have never touched a game before, and have been frightened by the brutish 13 year old male focus; they don't want to play "TOTAL GORE AND VIOLENCE XXX - now with more guns and polygon-count masturbation!" The DS is accomplishing this as we speak/type; look at Nintendogs, and Wario Ware. It's been proven that a decent game like those can appeal to a wide audience, and, here's teh money shot, NEW CUSTOMERS! Chances are these game companies have been turning a profit, but maybe the number of units moved has been slowing or even declining. They'd be insane to ignore an untapped part of the market, and they're going to give their all to make a good first impression. There's more, but it's escaped my brain for the moment. Will either edit or new post it when I wordize it. |

Personally, I like the thing from the looks of it. And yes, I get a antsy imagining if I can use my controller for something other than a light saber. Think about it, feudal Japan and using those Okinawan weaklings for target practice with my superior sword? Who needs karate?! ![]() Quote:
Quite frankly, we need more games that have a "modern" RPGish feel to them. My point is, if the Revolution can do that and not hit any of the pet peeves I mentioned before, I'm all over it... |

First off: Don't knock it till you try it. I personally like the idea, plus I've heard you can set it to not need to use the gyroscopic features and a two hand mode for "regular" games (GC games)
It was made because we usually move the controller when we play, so why not make it more important? So people, don't knock it till you try it. Lets all look back at the Gamecube controller, and how well that worked out. I'm sure the controller will also become more hand-friendly or "form fitting" Also people, this isn't like the Virtual boy, its a simple controller. You can obviously tell they kept it simple yet creative, like the DS.

I was just thinking...this new controller is kinda like the old PowerGlove. I wonder if they'll have an updated version of the PowerGlove as one of the optional controllers you can get.
