Oh, yeah, I know this very well, because of my interest in Japan. Japanese society suffers from intense xenophobia--but the weird thing is it clashes and at the same time is completely compatible with their humble, say-nothing, show-nothing attitudes. I don't know how bad it is in other countries, but in Japan, it's bad enough that people not only socially don't recognise inter-"national" marriages, it is legally almost always brushed aside. The whole 外人 (gaijin) thing really isn't that exaggerated.
In this sense, I understand what you are talking about. But in this same sense, I don't think that's okay. Japanese society is way too fragile to have an explosion like this any time soon, I think, but I think perhaps it's healthy in this case.
