Lockeownzj00 will become famous soon enough. Eventually. Maybe.

Oh, yeah, I know this very well, because of my interest in Japan. Japanese society suffers from intense xenophobia--but the weird thing is it clashes and at the same time is completely compatible with their humble, say-nothing, show-nothing attitudes. I don't know how bad it is in other countries, but in Japan, it's bad enough that people not only socially don't recognise inter-"national" marriages, it is legally almost always brushed aside. The whole 外人 (gaijin) thing really isn't that exaggerated.

In this sense, I understand what you are talking about. But in this same sense, I don't think that's okay. Japanese society is way too fragile to have an explosion like this any time soon, I think, but I think perhaps it's healthy in this case.

One of the greatest challenges facing civilization in the twenty-first century is for human beings to learn to speak about their deepest personal concerns—about ethics, spiritual experience, and the inevitability of human suffering—in ways that are not flagrantly irrational. We desperately need a public discourse that encourages critical thinking and intellectual honesty. Nothing stands in the way of this project more than the respect we accord religious faith.
