Corformists are silly. Unfortunately, my particular mode of independent dress labels me as a conformist: Casual jeans, and t-shirts. I got mocked for not wearing anything distinctive, and I pointed out that 'distinctive' costs a hell of a lot more money than I make. My friends 'distinctive' band t-shirt for a band no-ones heard of cost $39, whereas my jeans cost $10 and my shirts cost $5, and will outlast the band shirt by several years.

There is no such thing as conformity and non-conformity.

Oh really.... I want you to take a good, hard look at a high school, and tell me there's no such thing as conformity.

I'm with Whale. Adolescents have a burning need to try and fit in with the 'popular crowd,' and they will rapidly convince themselves that, "really, maybe I'm wrong, I probably am, they're probably all right."
It does happen. Saying it doesn't is a bit cruel. But acting as though you can, y'know, 'argue' about who is nonconformist and conformist, is a bit biased.

Yeah, saying who's who is hard... saying they exist is easy.
Besides, my wife is a Goth, so who am I to say conformity is even bad? Woo, leather corsets!! |

It's just as well since you gave up any right you have to bitch about conformity once you get married anyway.

He gave up his right to bitch about anything.
But the whole conformist/nonconformist thing, I would have to say that anyone that feels that they are an individual, then they are, labeling someone a non-conformist is just as bad as all of the conformists. What happens in reality is that the conformists hang out in thier little cliques, and so do the non-conformist. So in a broad general sense, I say that you are who you are, unless you are dressing/acting in a way to be accepted by a group. Even some goth kids (not making fun, it's just fresh) just dress goth to be accepted by the other goths, so even though goth is considered "nonconformist" there are still some "conformers" (Pick a fad, roll out) among them. I think that kids should be themselves. I've never been anything but.
