Cyber Wars: Chapter 6, "Are we there yet?"

"When we were transported back, the General told us that once we were healed, we had to go to the Coyote mansion because Andy's Team has gone AWOL. I'm sorry..." She wanted desparately to hold him, but she knew that would just get him more worked up about her having to go back into battle again.

His eyes opened wide. They had another mission to go on, but he wouldn't be there. This simple injury isn't stopping me. He forced himself to sit up, obviously in a lot of pain. His teeth was clentched and eyes closed shut with every inch that he made. He soon tried to force his body to swing from the side of the bed. "What are we waitin' for? We have a mission to go on."

"I don't think so. You're in no condition to go. You can barely sit up without pain. I'm not letting you go, as someone who cares for you and as your superior officer. You're not going and that's an order." Jade knew that Monk knew better than to question her when she used that tone of voice. She helped him back onto the bed and embraced him. "I'm sorry, but I can't let you endanger yourself, you mean too much to me."

[Squishy Cheeks]

"She's coming to kill me." Coyote said smuggly. "However the question is will I even allow you to begin our negotiations to save the cyber world or destroy it.. just... to... spite... you." The coyote said. "Or I could sell the device to Mastermind. After all his representatives had the decency of being on time."

"You mean too much to me... that's why I have to go. You have to understand... I can't... let you out of my sight. Please... I'll be fine, really. See, I can get up on my own." But in all honestly, as much as he pushed up against Jade, she kept him pinned into bed, easy, "I'm... really..." He finally gave up, "Fine... I'll just stay here... It might be good to get some rest..." He lifted his arms around Jade, "Please... come home to me..." He never heard Coyote's speech.

" I think I'm going to be sick."

Wolf backflipped as he narrowly avoided Beowulf's palm shot. The two had been sparring for almost 5 minutes straight. Each time, Wolf had tried to find a way to defeat his AI counterpart, but no matter how many hits he could get in, Beowulf always managed to be the victor. This time, Wolf had an idea though. He ran to one of the walls, and grabbed a katana off of a nearby weapon rack. He charged at Beowulf. the lupine AI dodged most of Wolf's cuts, but then Wolf feinted right and went left, catching his sparring partner in the leg. Beowulf stumbled and fell, and managed to get out one phrase through his clenched teeth.

"End program."

The katana vanished, as did the virtual injuries the two had inflicted on one another.

"That was very good." Beowulf said. "I'm surprised you thought of using the katana. It caught me off guard, and might just do the same to the agents."

"Unfortunately, I think the agents know I spent a year with the Japan Self-Defense force." Wolf said.

"But they don't know you acquired such skill with the blade." Beowulf responded.

"Well, yeah the katana is good, but if it gets knocked away, I need to be able to hold off the agents."

"You're fighting techniques are good, but they just have more stamina and strength. There is an option though. Nano-augmentation."

"I'm not so sure..."

"Why? It's perfectly safe as long as you don't god mod yourself. You could just augment your arms and legs just enough to give you that extra edge. Jade recently did that because she was sick of getting shot there and not being able to move as much."

"Well...I've been suspicious of nanotech, but I guess if I was crazy enough to have an ethernet port installed in my head, then I'm crazy enough for this. I better do this fast though, we have to go to Coyote's mansion as soon as we're healed enough."

At the mention of the mansion, Beowulf's eyes widened. "That reminds me." Beowulf said. He took a CD from his pocket and tossed it to Wolf. "This contains data I picked up while in Mastermind's network. You'll understand it soon enough."

Wolf caught the disk. "Thanks." and with that he logged out.

5 minutes later, Wolf was describing the nano-augmentations to the medtechs.

"Second person in 1 hour...new record for augmentation." the cheif medic said.

"I know, but these are trying times." Wolf said as the techs began programming and inserting the nanites.

After the procedure, Wolf decided to check on Monk, find out how he was doing now. Seeing that his friend was alone now, he knocked on the door.

J2 appeared in front of Beowolf. "So, you've been training him. It's a good idea in theory, but think about this for a second: We barely survived that, and the only reason we did was because the bomb went off. And now you're gonna train a human to move and fight like us when we couldn't even hold our own? I'm not so sure about this Beowolf. Even with their upgrades, they probably don't stand a chance. You know what this means though? It means we're gonna have to go with them."

Jade walked into her quarters and collapsed into bed. She was alomst asleep before her head hit the pillow, when her PDA beeped. Her face buried inside her pillow, she picked up her pda and said with a muffeld voice, "this better be good." "Sorry to bug you." Jade looked up and smiled, "J2, it's good to see you. I assume that you being here means that everything went according to plan?" "Well we had a run-in with the Agents, but the bomb went off before they could finish us off." "Glad to hear that. I'm really worried about them. It seems that we're at a high diadvantage even with my new upgrade." "Wolf went to get one too, you guys will have to train you know." "I know, I'll get Wolf after he's done with Monk and we'll plug in, but first patch me into Coyote's frequency." "You got it."

"Sorry to have kept you waiting, but we were a little busy trying not to get killed and such. But I believe we have some business to discuss Coyote."

[Squishy Cheeks]

"as a business man I can understand that." "But I do hate to be kept waiting. It's not even like my riddles are hard. Do a diagnostic of cyberspace. Follow the white rabbit."

Jade types that into her PDAP and turns to Coyote. "Now here's my question. Why are you doing this? You know very well that if you destroy Cyber Space you get blown up too. I thought you hated Mastermind as much as we did. What's you angle in all this hm?"
