But in the original pokemon blue or red, i really think a mirror move battle COULD be an endless loop

Just to note, I rather liked the line "Did the entire universe turn into pure focused agony for you, or was it just me?" as it's the first time I recall the one central truth of 8BT being canonically stated by a character in the narrative.

Very nice.
