I can't help but break into the dances from World of Warcraft. Most commonly, the Draenei male. I go around spouting headshot!! when situationally apporiate(and no, I don't mean I go around seeing heads get blown off) quite a bit, also. |

If life was an rpg, I'd at least get some damned thing for all these friggin fetch quests to the gas station!
And every time I drop off my bro at Tennis academy, it'll be under attack by some giant monster or I'll have some wiggin crazy cool auto battle on top of my car against ninjas. Alas, real life sucks! |

Pole weapons, on the other hand, are incredibly effective, but only if you know how to use them. Also, they offer much better defensive abilities, are faster, gain more power from a wide, two-handed grip, and have the benefit of two ends. Also, the differences between them are astounding in practice. A staff handles much differently in combat than a spear or naginata, and a dire lance or swallow can be gotten by on with techniques from those three, but both shine with creativity in use to match their designs. Frankly, if you look at staff-users in games, they can be quite capable fighters is you defy the guide books, don't load them down with stat-killing magic, and put them in the front row. I'd rather be taken as weak and kick serious butt than have someone look at me, yawn, and start having an arm-waving contest.

Dude, it's funny you bring that up. I'm a big believer in weapons ability. It goes as thus:
Swords are lightweight, easy to wield, have a tendency to have magic equipped to them, but otherwise are beginner weapons, or mage weapons. Spears are armor-piercing, and are also very heavy, both in weight and damage, however, deal less damage than, say, a broadsword or scythe against normal-defense enemies. They also are quick at blocking attacks. Expert-like weapon. Scythes are very easy to flip around, and act as performance enhancers when skilled with scythes. Slightly easy to wield, are fast heavy weapons. They're big, so they're extremely hard to store, or carry around, but allow a plethora of abilities when wielded. Broadswords are the anti-sword. The axe if you will, though axes are failures in my opinion. Broadswords are huge, but easy to carry. Hard to wield, but the strongest out of all of them. Heaviest weapon. Low accuracy, reduces speed. Claws are the weakest, but the fastest. They can slash easily, and are used primarily for speed and combos. Far weapons they are not, but advantageous they are. They also come as gauntlets, gloves, or 'gear'. Bows are the epitome of skill. They're insanely weak at first, but are long-distance. However, once skill builds up over time, it can deal the most damage out of all the weapons, and be the most long-distance of them all. Guns are the weakest, but double distance of bows. They're also insanely cheap, and come in a plethora of forms. Tada. Wooooo!!! Go weapons!! I'd take the scythe any day. I'm fascinated with the scythe. If you spin it fast enough, it can soar you into the air, and then you throw it, and it smashes everything in its way.

At least you have a clear choice. IRL, I'm fairly skilled with staves, spears, swords, hand-to-hand combat, bows, thrown weapons, and what BB/pellet/laser tag/arcade guns I've come across. Aside from that, if you give me a weapon, I'll find a way to use it. Except nunchaku. I'll never get the hang of those.
Of course, there are games where you have various weapon options per character/class. I'd probably fare better in one of those, given the types of stuff you listed for advantages and disabilities. ...And you know, despite all this, I'm really not one to fight.

The D&D test aside, if life were like an RPG, I'd probably be a magic-user of some sort. Either an NPC that does healing/ressurrections/fortunetelling or if as a PC, then like Soren in Fire Emblem. Someone who follows the group, but says the things that nobody else will say.
"You know, maybe we should give up the princess. This wasn't part of the job, we shouldn't care."

Pfft, what happened to patas? No love for them? How about shields? Shields are actually very effective weapons.
