EVO probably just wants to differentiate itself from SWF. Almost none of the choices make any goddamn sense. You may criticise SWF for being too elitist or whatever, but damn it they have at least taken the time to research this.

The event will have a high attendance anyway, but I can't wait for the bitching that will happen because a exploding crate appeared just before the leading player was going to finish his opponent. If they really want to experiment with all before banning stuff they better be prepared for some very major backlash from the Smash communities everywhere.

How about maybe, just maybe, they want people to have some fun with the game? Y'know, like you're supposed to, instead of just arguing about what characters are basically cheating? It's a damn game, you're supposed to play it and have fun, not complain endlessy about a character or a stage or an item. All the time you people are here, talking 'bout metagame, you could be playing it. I know I would, if I had it. And a Wii.

I do have fun with the game, in most aspects.

The problem here is that EVO, a big-time tournament event, is doing something very stupid with Brawl's rules in exchange for its tourney status.

It's all fun and games till someone loses their multi-thousand dollar prize to a Blast Box.

Besides, I have no say in the backroom dealings of Smash Bros metagame. I'm just the messenger.

Nobody has argued for character bannings. That would be the worst thing to do with this game and that's something everyone agrees on.

Ryong, this is competitive gaming. For prizes. Fun almost never factors into it.

You might as well tell the LA Lakers that they should stop trying to get the best players and plan out strategies, because it's just a game and they should have fun with it.

I'd also like to add that the organiser of EVO has stated that he doesn't give a shit about SWF or the rest of the Smash communities, he just wants to host it with rules that SRK has deemed fair, and if people don't like it, fuck them.

In fact, I'm going to say this. It's one thing to have tournaments run the way you like them and approve of them, and these guys are running a tournament the way they like to. If you don't like the tournament, you don't have to go, talk about it, think about the metagame, etc.

In any case, if I were a hardcore player, tournaments would be for me challenging myself on my skill and having fun playing the game I practiced on. A good fight is fun in itself. The prize is a bonus that's neat to have. If you're counting on that prize to survive, well, it's pretty silly. Some game leagues exist to do that sort of thing but if you have a bad game day and miss a crucial second you're out of income for a while, aren't you? I really hate to say this but it's better to have a job and play Smash on the side, if you get cash it's bonus income. If not, you're not particularly missing anything.

I vote that we all simply ignore the posts about tournaments, rules, characters, items, stages, all of that crap. I do not want to get into this again.

Moving on; Sonic really suffers from a lack of KO power. The only ones he can actually throw out are his Bair and his Fsmash, but both are admittedly low-range and Fsmash has got really lousy lag.

I have seen some great Sonic players but it's alot of running around and liberal use of Fair and Nair.

Do you have any idea how absurd (no, I'll go further, it's completely stupid) a statement "If you don't like it, leave it alone" is? That one single statement destroys the very heart of criticism, constructive or otherwise.

I'm not saying you're stupid, but I hear that sentence so often and people think it's some sort of valid argument and in reality it doesn't even come close.

I don't really know how the tournament scene works, but I am under the impression that people don't exactly get free plane tickets to attend a Smash tourney on the other side of the country (or in another country altogether). If you have a tournament that promotes an uneven or random chance of winning, based not on player skill but on the rules of engagement, the premise of going to this tournament becomes considerably less attractive.

People don't go to tournies to have fun, they go to win. And they go to win by merit of their skill, not by a lottery ticket with slightly better odds based on how good they are at the game.

Snoic sux, lol. But no, seriously? I can't use him, and the fact that my main man Wario just eats Sonic for breakfast (literally. Wario's Bite counters damn near everything Sonic does) just turns me off to the character as a whole.
