Of course they turned down the one who wasn't obviously caucasian. This is a Hollywood movie, the Prince of Persia has to be caucasian!!! We all know how the Persian Empire was just filled to the brim with Europeans...why, Iran has a deep history of Europeans named Jake in residence.

I meant that you(you not Solid Snake) usually give off the impression of not being likely to say what you just said. That something that is so obviously influenced by stupid racism, but is easily argueable as something else, (Star Power)You would lean more toward the latter than the former, as far as I knew(may be wrong).

I am surprised by the choice in Jake. He's just... Yeah, this seems more they'll focus on the combat of PoP instead of the parkour. So the Prince will have a Saber two times the size of his head, and the girl (who was always a decent companion in the first game[Farrah]) is going to just be some snobbish woman... Oh crap if they get Kim Kardashian... >_<

Anyway, I'm liking the movie idea and it's all good. But I'd have to believe Johnny Depp is better for this simply in regards to his physique.

I see what premonitions is trying to say but it's not worth the effort to explain it and in any case the impression he got was clearly wrong so let's just let that die there.

Mainly the latter, which I feel is a product of the former.

I don't know that I'd blame Pirates specifically, it's just standard-issue Hollywood Stupid.

I don't even know that I'd be automatically against any white dude ever, it's just that in particular they decided to get the living embodiment of Suburban White Dudeseyness. Which if you're casting Donnie Darko or Brokeback Mountain or whatever in hell then hey that's totally cool. But I can't think of an actor who less reminds me of anything having to do with Persians or Princes.

EDIT: Like okay by way of comparison and speaking of brokeback mountain, if they had made this movie with Heath Ledger in it I at least wouldn't have automatically hated it, because Heath Ledger at least 1. was the right build 2. had an English accent and 3. was a great actor in pretty much any role. I mean I'm not even saying it wouldn't have sucked but it would at least have been hypothetically plausible not to have.

But like, Jake Gyllenhall as the Prince of Persia? That's just wrong in so many different ways.

Hollywood isn't really racist (at least, not as racist as it used to be) insofar as there's increasing opportunity for most races these days. African Americans, for example, are no longer really getting shafted or under-represented. (In sitcoms that's another story, I'm not entirely sure why that is. And they're still being typecast, just not shafted entirely.)
Middle Easterners (or those of such a descent) probably are more likely to get shafted then most, though. I mean think about it, how many Arab American figures in television or Hollywood aren't being shown in movies as terrorists or strange people with foreign accents? And it's a bit disappointing that they're not going with an ethnic actor for this role, because there was such a strong Middle Eastern flavor to the world of the Prince of Persia series, and it just won't work well at all with European actors mucking it up all over the place. I mean there are some movies you can kind of fool around with ethnic histories (caucasians voicing the roles in Aladdin didn't bother me), and then there's some like this, where more appropriate casting would have benefitted the production.
Also, insofar as the Prince is a great protagonist who is thoroughly charismatic, likable, and not remotely evil or frightening, it would have been great for an ethnic character to break some stereotypes with him.
