Back to the topic on hand...

I had some friends who recommended OkCupid to me and I figured I'd give it a try. For those of you who have used it, I have a question. When someone sends you a message do you get an email letting you know you have one? Or do you just have to keep checking back in to see?

I ask because I found someone who seems to match me pretty well, but she hasn't been logged in since November 15th. Just wondering if I have to wait for her to happen to log in and see she has a message, or if she has been notified already

A message will be sent to her e-mail inbox, but honestly, if she hasn't logged in at all since November 15th, you won't get a response from her. She's probably gotten tons of e-mails from guys in the last month, and if she's not responding to any of them (or even logging into OKCupid to check any of their profiles out), that's a bad sign. Also, when OKCupid sends her an e-mail message informing her that you sent her a message on the service, a full transcript of your message to her will not be provided to her on her e-mail.

(That's a convoluted way of saying, unless she actually signs into OKCupid, she won't actually know the contents of your message, she'll only know someone with your username sent her a message. Which won't really help your case if you're trying to differentiate yourself from the masses by commenting on how alike the two of you are.)

Finally: I actually have a date with an OKCupid user the Saturday after Christmas. She seems like a pretty nice gal and we've chatted a couple weeks now and we're going to meet up in person. Huh. Who'da thunk it.
