There's no such thing as a vamp mage. The whole awakened avatar thing doesn't mesh with the whole undead thing.

EDIT: Stupid Tremere, I demand they stop existing so I can be right.

EDIT..... right. Everything makes sense now. Sort of. I don't feel like playing a vampire though so I guess we'll go with uneven numbers.
