Picture #4 looks like the kid is grimacing in pain as his dad is shoving the knife into him from under the table.

Japanese watermelons are smaller and rounder. Get over it.

I once saw a twelve year old pull out a wad of cash that equated to about $300 american at a shopping mall in Shinjuku.
I don't think the Japanese are terribly concerned with the price of watermelon. |

The Yen is pretty much FUBAR at this point. Pretty good estimate is that 1 Yen = 1 US cent. On the other hand, everything is ludicrously expensive in Japan, so trying to figure out how far your own money will actually take you is a task for savants and supercomputers.
I mean, there's probably some explanation having to do with their resources or something, but just based on what Yen will buy you, it makes no sense. Also, Japanese watermelon pic explains everything. I know more!

There better be fucking gold in that watermelon. Or at least giving super powers to who ever eats it.

You have all failed to notice the part of that picture that says, "Ginza". Assuming I haven't gotten my geography all mixed up, Ginza is the super-crazy-expensive district in Tokyo. I think it's also where the Sony building is but I can't recall for sure. They sell several hundred dollar chocolates and clothes so expensive you could get a nice apartment and pay two months rent with the money. They can get away with it to because rich people will buy it.
EDIT: I'm just clarifying because some of you seemed to think this watermelon was an accurate reflection on the Japanese economy or something and it would be better to say that it's an accurate reflection on how fucking stupid rich people can be.

I'm pretty sure melons are just expensive in Japan. At least that's what my Japanese professors say.
