Sock Munkey, a Red Mage isn't a spellsword. RM's combat abilities are fairly limited, same with his magic, whereas a spellsword is highly skilled at both..........the post I made before this showed what sort of powers it would have

a Red Mage is also skilled in a few more areas

hmph, but a spellsword...............or at least the unique class 'I' made (which could be a spellsword) can cast Hadoken, which would easily destroy a Red Mage

Yeah, "spellsword" is a much cooler name (and a wicked prestige class-go lower armor penalty!)than "red mage"; why red, anyway? What's with all the red? But red mages have the plumed hat advantage. And it IS an advantage, to be sure.

If not a red mage, I would want to be some opressed peasant NPC, trying to rally the townsfolk to take a stand against the government and abuse from adventuring groups. This would, of course, be met with horrible, horrible failure, but still I would try.

If I could be any character in an 8-bit game, I would be that guy that sits in the bar and tells you where to go next. You would have to follow his advice no matter what because nobody else would have the absolute power to be in every single bar at once and the experience to tell you where to find a quest.

Then I would turn out to be the main boss that would have led you all into a trap where i have no hope of losing. Muahahahahahahaha!!!!!
