This is the discussion forum where people argue about whether one thing is right or wrong. If you can't back up your opinion it doesn't really belong, and I daresay that the "Kindly go to hell" remark was less than called for. If you don't want your 'opinion' scrutinized and torn down and all that jazz, then you shouldn't be in the discussion forum.

It is worth pointing out that while Eltargrim's examples are poor, the idea that opinions can be wrong isn't exactly unheard of. I think a better example would be books, however, where you can enjoy a book, and that book can still be terrible literature when looked at objectively.

Also, one opinion can be more valid than another, as people can be more and less informed on a subject and so one person's opinion might have more knowledge about said subject backing it up. I'd also say that opinions hardly matter, since, as someone pointed out earlier, there are what can be called objectively negative consequences to not explaining death properly to a child. So there is that.

My main reasons that I don't think the school should have done this are that they were making the students make a decision about life and death of an animal, and one was apparently against, and I don't it's right to ignore the feelings of the voting minority when life and death is involved, especially when the voting populous consists of children. I also consider the subject of life and death to be a more personal matter that should be learned from the family as many people have different beliefs and interpretations of death.

But Frogman, you are disillusioned into thinking opinions cannot be wrong. Opinions can definitely be wrong. Luckily this doesn't come up often because discussions usually happen in areas of moral/conceptual ambiguity. In this case however, you've proven more than being a non-empiricist, you're clearly an anti-empiricist.

Actually, without citing sources, you said Krylo's cited sources are wrong while saying other sources are more correct, without providing these sources.

I disagree I'm not even going to bother, with expressing rfurther opinions, I believe one way, but instead of discussing it, you all simply say that my opinions on this matter are wrong. Thats why I say "kindly go to hell"

I'll probably get a semi ban or even a perma-ban for this but I really couldn;t care less I have more important things to do than to have my beliefes bashed for no other reason than because you can.

I've recieved five messages (not PMs so no point checking the database) mostly through IM's from people who won't post on here for fear of being banned and or whatever.

The first was someone calling me a "poor bastard" saying they can't believe that I actually bothered posting in the discussion forum, because it's less of discussion and more of a rant.

The second said roughly the same thing but apologised for not warning me before hand.

The third, said that the way they see it only certain members are even allowed an opinion in this section, an no new poster has a right to an opinion.

The fourth was pretty much the same, sorry for not warning you, blah blah blah.

The last one however actually shocked me, I never once expected this from an NPFer... I mean wow... "Ignore them, their nothing but a bunch of elitist bastards, at least on UJ opinions are considered and discussed, not flamed outright."

Ofcourse I wouldn't dare name the people involved because they would get banned in a trice. However for what little good it'll do, I thought you should know the opinions of some of your more longer running members.

Well this is the last time I post here, I think I'll take the advice of my friends who have been here long enough to know how this place works, and if they think it's a waste of time expressing opinions then, who am I to argue.

You continue with you're one sided discussion, I won't bother you any longer with alternative views.

Preference is not the same as ignoring or acknowledging psychological research. The insane contrast you have drawn here pretty much refutes your argument for you.

The fact that you enter this discussion with the knowledge that you believe this goat's death was "obscene" and then defend it with "This is my opinion; I don't need facts" makes it exceptionally difficult to argue with you. If you preferred not to argue you are more than willing to do so, but stating that other people can't argue with you is a good way to receive the opposite. Like, say, what I'm doing now.

And if these people are in such support of logical fallacies being treated as a real argument that they are willing to support your fond farewell and tip of the hat, well, more power to them and their sandbox they get to play in.

The discrepancy between the number of actual bannings we've given lately as opposed to the number of bannings some people swear up and down we hand out like it was a bodily function is kind of enormous. This is especially amusing if you can see the admin panel where most permabanned users listed are one-time spam accounts, either from trolls or this one crazily persistent spammer in Switzerland.
