Kuro, if you're so busy, go ahead and leave this thread and don't look back. You've made it plenty apparent that you have no intent to listen to our say on the matter, and that you'd rather demean the mods who don't agree with Meister and Shiny than actually treat them like mods, the kind of people who I would wager deserve a little more respect than your average forum member. If it's a toss-up between deleting the forums and going and getting your work done, do the latter, because you've made it incredibly apparent that no matter what you read in these forums and no matter what anyone says or thinks, you will not be changing your mind. There's no real point to you reading or participating in this conversation, and I'd hate to see these forums deleted because you couldn't make yourself walk away.

The problem here is communication. Whether or not the parties involved didn't communicate, or miscommunicated is now irrelevant.

It does seem necessary for said parties to commune, albeit privately, and I think that Fifth did wrong by saying his piece and bolting. This needs to be worked out now before it boils up again. Letting off all this steam is doing nothing for the community, an non-mods said their pieces and are now just blowing smoke. But who knows? This might just be a case of a pot calling the kettle black.

Look, I don't know who the fancy hell broke what to let you of all people into that forum, but I'm going to have to kindly request you stop mentioning things from that forum. Things in that forum are in that forum for a goddamn reason and it is most certainly not your place to discuss them unless we decide to make them publically accessable. Capsice?

I just want to say that, while I have not been nearly active enough in my years of Nuklear Power fandom to justify a real opinion on a matter most of us don't know the most intimate details about in the first place, I always liked the mods / admins here from what I did see, and I wish Fifthfiend good fortune and all that. I'm also glad to hear he's not leaving.

...I agree with this insomuch as, while I understand that Brian came in only to offer an explanation and final sign-off of sorts on the decision being made, it probably should have just ended there. Not because I feel Brian is being mean or whatever, just because this forum is now doing exactly what it's not supposed to be doing; eating away at his time.

I don't see how this thread can contribute anything positive any longer. Certain people can still continue discussion via PM, no?

Deleting the forums is something I've seriously wrestled with for 4 - 5 years. I always sided with not doing it because, at the end of the day, the forums were harmless.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but hasn't that always been sort of the point of the mod staff here? The people who can actually deal with running the forums because you don't have the time for it?

I would also like to reiterate the stance of "pleeeeease don't delete the forums". I've been here, what, 3 years or so now? That covers most of my teenage lifespan, right up from when I was just discovering that you could actually do more with the Internet than schoolwork up to now. I had all of the usual drama and wangst, and this was pretty much always the place I could come too to unwind and relax a little bit, since the people were friendly (okay dicks but still friendly), and I actually felt comfortable.

Now I am never going to say anything nice ever again about any of you.

Lemme explain my view on moderation a bit. I've always taken one of the core principles to be that every mod you ask about a rules issue should give you roughly the same reply. Roughly meaning if you give one of us a post and ask if it's, let's say spammy, we should all be able to agree on yes or no, or to say "no, but I can see why the others think it is so whatever." If two opinions are outright opposed to each other with either party not budging that's obviously a problem. Throw in tangibleokay, maybe intangible, this being the internet disadvantages for the users - warnings, bans, whatever - and the problem grows.

As a forum member you've got an established identity with a name, individual character traits and all, which you use to represent yourself. As a moderator you're using that identity to represent the rules and ideals of the forum. I was completely ready to step down as a moderator here because I didn't want to have to represent and defend decisions I would never have made. I asked the others for input and you know how that eventually ended. However given my aforementioned detachment it's pretty easy for me to say that I'm still ready to step down so that's what I'll do. Would have happened eventually anyway, I guess.

For now I'm probably going to stay in an admin position but I'll limit myself to handling technical stuff. I won't get involved with any moderating or rules decision unless I'm explicitly asked and I completely trust the mod staff we have right now to run this silly place. How this develops from here on out we'll see.

I would like this to be explicitly understood as not a decision made to appease krylo because there's really nothing to appease ("You have these two choices and I am not backing down and if you don't choose soon I am going to post it another time!"). Otherwise feel free to take it as you will.

Lastly Brian you get back to work this minute goddammit you have cats to feed. I know Charlie subsists entirely on household items but that's no excuse.
