Lol yeah that reminds me of how mad people got in the ask black mage thread.

That makes me think. Is it possible that people would like to receive stupid advices when they send their questions to Yo' sword (possible name for a Fighter's Column).

Is that day coming? Are you prepared? I know I'm not

Inspired by what ChaosMage said, maybe not something as straightforward as an "Ask ****" column, but I'm sure there are quite a few people that frequent these forums who would jump at the chance to be featured with their own column. Imaginations could be used, which I know exist somewhere out there in that void known as the web, to come up with brilliant new ideas.

As mentioned, people such as myself would be happy to be featured. I have extensive knowledge of every final fantasy ever created, as well as many other RPGs, and games at my disposal. It'd be so cool to have a "Help me Aeria!" thread wherein I could provide helpful info for tough parts of said games...

The only thing that makes this not work so well is the fact that basically any column you could imagine would be redundant. If you need video game help, it's easy enough to find. If you want someone's opinion, there are reviews unnumbered for which you could go to. The thing that makes the "twinking out with Red Mage" work is that he is well known to you all, and provides you with something you cannot simply look up, which is his unique opinions. Because I am not well known and thus my opinion considered important, giving me a column would be foolish. As with most people on the forums... 'Tis too bad too, but whatcha gonna do?

Become famous by taking over the world, thereby making my opinion the most important one in the world with everyone asking my advice. This could, however, result in the destruction of the world because I get sick of people who ask dumb questions really fast.

If someone really wanted to write a column for the site on an official basis, my advice would be to write up a sample column and send that to Brian. Prove that you can write well and be entertaining enough to make it worth his time. It still probably won't get you a column, just because he's not really looking for one right now, but you'll have a better shot than most of the "giv me a colum i am teh evil blackmage pie pie figther is dumb stabbity whiet mage" crap attempts out there.

Also, you might want to try a "column thread", something slightly like what Chrono is doing too, only the opposite. i.e. you open yourself to questions of a certain topic (like Aeria said earlier on this thread). That way, you could get everyone to see, and probably get some feedback from other forum members too.

OK, by random chance I've come accross this thread. here's the scoop. I have a forty hour a week job that keeps me pretty busy and doesn't pay me anything. By the time I get home I'm too drained to do much of anything. On top of that somone signed the redmage email up for every piece of spam imaginable, so rooting out real emails from the spam was impossible. I still plan on releasing the books with all new sosa-fun and annotations and essays and fun. I just need to find $800 lying in the street somewhere. You can get more of my patented funny at www.side-quest.com (tell your friends!). If it gets popular enough then i can start gouging you guys for money and then I can be a bum like Brian and have nothing but free time for various projects. Maybe column related ones!!!

Whell... considering the loose change factor of the boards & its members, I had me a bit of an epiphany(sp?). Maybe, you could do a grand finale Red Mage column, but here's the kicker, you only answer questions that you're paid for.

All towards the sweet goal of reaching that fabled $800.

I don't know what you're rates would have to be, and I suppose you might have to do an extra-extra-extra long column to make your goal & not have henious over charges, but at least its an idea.

Maybe not a good one, but it is an idea. Except so substitutions, sold where ever other ideas are found.
