or, perhaps

Ha! It takes actualy skill to draw people realistically, instead of anime crap.

also,

shadow is messed up, but I was too lazy to fix it...

The two war machines are concepts I did for a BF2 mod, btw. The barbarian I drew out of boredom.

I'm going to pretend that you didn't just say that to annoy/insult any of the anime artists here or anywhere. (and because of this, I have to defend it, for all of the wonderful anime artists that I admire out there) And actually, it doesn't take more skill; the proportions are all about the same, the head, torso, arms, and the rest of the body parts are all in the same place. So the only difference between "anime crap" and your realism, as you put it is the style in which it's drawn.

And even realism, I personally don't think, takes any more skill. It's just more tedious, from my experience.

Anyway, not relating to that topic anymore. I finally uploaded a picture I drew. ^^ It wasn't that hard, it just took a lot of time.

Merry Christmas. :P heh heh heh.

(argh, sorry everyone. ^^;;; defensive mode is set to "on" I guess. Or "annoyed" mode...)

No, seriously, anyone at all can draw anime. It's sort of like drawing Simpsons characters, once you figure out what shortcuts they take, it's ridiculously easy. I know a guy who can draw a perfect Bart in about 20 seconds.

Realism doesn't really take any more skill per se...
Conveying motion does. For a long time, European artists simply could not convey motion. They were notoriously bad at it. All the battle scenes seemed static. Everything else, even more static. They eventually had to learn from the Japanese artists, but it came to me naturally.

I also have a completely weird way of drawing. People are sometimes fascinated to watch me draw, because they can figure out what it is I'm drawing as I go along. You see, most people would prefer to make a general outline of whatever it is they draw, you know, to have the proper proportions, etc. Then they begin to fill in the details. While I could do that too, I can also start drawing in detail from any random part of what's in my head. For example, that Barbarian picture I started drawing from one of the shoulder pads. Then I drew more around it. Then I drew the head... etc.

CJ, when your picture wouldn't load for me, and I was going through the "View Image," "Refresh" routine to see it, I was thinking, "Man, CJ, why didn't you shrink this down? It's huge!" But then I saw it and all it's swirly details, and thoughts of shrinking it became rediculous. Fine work. I also like the eye, especially the colors, but I'm torn between what it is and what it would be if the lines along the edges of the hair were anti-aliased a bit.

Tweebus, I wish I had the knack for details that you have. All your work (or at least, all your work in the style that I've seen) walks the perfect line between disgusting and cute. It's a treat to look at.

iddqd, I have an art request. Could you draw me swinging a golf club in my anime-esque style? Here's an example of how I'd look if I were a cartoon character drawn in the land of the rising sun. It's only anime (even though that entails as many different styles as Western animation), so you should be able to sketch something up in five minutes or so. I'd appreciate it!

You don't always get what you ask for.

There, but you're not swinging the club here. Whatever, I just wanted to make you look stupid

Anyone at all can draw in any style. They might not pick it up super quick, or be able to finish a drawing in just a few hours, but everyone has the capacity.

Yeah, generally once you learn how, you can do something pretty easily. I learned shortcuts on how to make a realistic eye and now I can draw a real eye in just a few seconds, so I see no merit in your arguement. Just as anyone can draw anime, anyone can draw realism too. The only difference is the style. And then the deciding factor is how good they are. Yes anyone can draw anime or realism, but are they any good at it?

And just to mention: from what you're saying that because it's anime they couldn't possibly have more skill than someone doing realism.
So you're saying that the person who drew this: http://www.hku.hk/acabox/newslet/3rd/issue3/art1b.jpg
is less skilled than the person who drew this:
http://www.portrait-artist.org/life-...tail-mouth.jpg just because the former is anime and the latter is realism? I don't know about the rest of you, but I would draw the realism a million times before I was able to draw as well as the anime picture.

In contrast to what you said before?

While I agree that it is harder to convey motion (And even then, once you learn how, it's much simpler to do); what does conveying motion have to do with anime OR realism? Motion is motion weither it's realism, anime, or any other style. And I saw no motion in your piece that you posted, so please show us an example since it comes so naturally to you.

Yeah, I did that all the time when I was first learning how to draw. I would generally start with the eye and work out from there, and even now I still do that if the picture is simple enough. But I won't go any further into this because it has no point in why anime is sooooo easy to draw.

Plus, you realise that the picture you posted wasn't even technically "realism", just a comic-y looking human, so it's JUST as realistic as anything anime. To be good "realism", there can't be any outlines, all edges are created by the darks and lights of shading. Just because it's not anime doesn't mean it's any more or less realistic.

So please do not insult other people's styles of art, because, frankly, they never did anything to you. Also, after this post, I'm not going to argue about this with you anymore because I do not want to be responsible for feeding trolls, since that seems like it may be your goal, since you are baselessly bashing other people's styles.

(EDIT: I changed the first link because tripod was being dumb)

crap indeed takes no skill.
One could indeed draw good anime, though. But I'm not a big fan of it.

Are those muscles?! Abs and pecs!? Dude, I should play telf more often. I don't know what gave you the impression that I'm so "hip" as to wear one of those chain things hanging out of my pocket, but I like the picture. Though, if you wanted to make me look stupid, you should've drawn me with my finger up my nose. Otherwise, you aren't doing anything I haven't already done to myself.
