Right now, I'm liking the way they do encounters in Lunar 2. As for actual battles, I like how it works in the Star Ocean and Tales series. Turn-based random encounters bore me, to be honest. I think it's one of the weak points of the Final Fantasy series.

If they were to combine the battle system from Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga with the one from Paper Mario 2, I would probably die of acute joy overload.

Other notables for me are Tales of Symphonia for action based, since it's like a simplified fighting game, and it works really well, and Grandia 2 for turn based, just because of the amount of strategy you can put into affecting how the turn order goes.

I agree. M+L has the best system ever. Dodging attacks was simple, brilliant, and necessary. Bros. Attacks were wonderful, especially when you learned the Advanced versions.

Chrono Trigger is up there, too. I like it mainly because your ATB meters fill up alot faster than in the FF games.

Anything but a card based battle game, like Baten Kaitos and Kingdom Hearts for the GBA. I hated them since its too random and hard to make any consitent strategy.

I can't just choose one favorite. Most of what I would mention has already been said, including FF8, Chrono Trigger, and Tales of Phantasia. Another that I would like to add is Disgaea. I love all the little quirks and get arounds you can use. ^^

Dragon Ball Z Legend of the Super Saiyajin has a really sweet system. There's was nothing particularly special about the technical aspect of it, but I love the way combat was shown. I like how each attack is shown to be a combination of punches, kicks, blocks, and dodges. It's kind of how things should be (though if you really wanted to go all out, it would only show that once per round, instead of once for each attack). It looks more like what the typical D&D combat rounds are supposed to be.

Then there's the fact that it just looked really cool. A lot like the way combat went in the anime.

Awesome art be here.

I like the battle-system in Shadow Hearts and it's sequal.

The first time I played it, I was like "Oh...it's like Legend of Dragoon...except it makes sense and is easier to do." But, after awhile, you just get addicited to it. If you're not paying attention, you'll waste your turn, up to in and including the game-saving healing spell.

Also, the addition of having the criticals in there is a nice touch. I can't even count how many times I've debated with myself on boss battle, wondering if I should "play it safe", or "gamble" and try to get the critical without missing it, and thus, losing my action.

The combo-system in Shadow Hearts: Covenant is also pretty good.

I'm kinda crossed between the battle system from Chrono Trigger and the Battle System from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2.

I just like any battle system that doesn't take forever. Chrono trigger got on my nerves about this once I 'mastered' the game (really. The game stops being hard after the floating mountain). I seriously think that Chrono Trigger thinks that all kids either read really slowly or like to check to make sure that monsters still give them the same amount of EXP that they did 20 battles ago. I'll finish a battle and start mashing the 'A' button in a vain attempt to tell the game, "Okay okay! Let's go. Let's GO!"
That's why I've never replayed FFVII. The first time I played, I'd think "Woohoo, I got a limit breaker." Towards the end, I'd think, "Shit. I got a limit breaker. I better make a sandwich while I wait."

I really liked the Bahamut Lagoon battle system. The choice to get in the opponents face or attack from a distance and the ability to affect the environment was really cool. You could lure your enemies out onto water and drown them. What other games let you do that?

I think CT is the best. I love the individuality of the techs and all the combo that you could do. I love being able to choose for the most part who you could fight. Any game with the ATB system I like though. I don't like gmaes that are straight turn based though.
