Just because it is speculation doesn't mean we can't debate about its merits. The real PS3 my not look anything like what is shown... but it doesn't mean we can't throw our two cents in about this theory.

Anyway, I'm going to go with the majority here, and say that the split controller idea is really stupid looking. It would be uncomfortable, and I would have to get out of many of my habits...

I gotta say, though, I hope they use backwards compatibility. It'd make me lean more towards getting one, since I could get all the games I missed(I didn't get a PS2) and I know there would be lots of good games for it from the get go.

The split controller image (and the image of the consel itself) is merely a product of the imagination of the people who run that site. Personally, I like the design of the PS2 controller (although in my opinion the X-Box controller is better for FPS). Although no one can beat the sheer awesomeness of the NES controller. So simple...so glorious...

yes the NES controller is the god of all controllers...so rectangular. they actually made sure you took that 15 minute break every hour just because the corners were getting to you...other than that the simple 2 button, d-pad, and start/select buttons were all we ever needed...ever.

The best controller by any standards has to be the SNES controller. It was ergonomic, lightweight, stylish and well built. One time, I threw my SNES controller in a fit of gaming rage, and it dented the wall! The controller was fine. It worked like it was brand new.
Now try to do that with an X-box controller or a (heavens no) N64 controller. You'd be picking up plastic and resistors for weeks.
If you need more than 8 buttons plus direction, you're controller design sucks.

see, now if it was a one-handed controller, that might be interesting, although it would require some pinky finger-dextarity training. something with a thumb-stick, buttons for the index and middle fingers, then triggers for the ring and pinky fingers.

but then again, when people challenge working conventions (such as the controllers that we have now), we get stuff like the Virtual boy and the Turbo-Graphix 16, and we all know where those lead to.

well the crumby part about it all is we whon't know till the system comes out or at least a few weeks or monthe b4 the last i herd it was pushed back to some time in the spring of 2006 or some time in november 2005 i can't remember but i highly doubt the sys will look anything like that most lickly it will resimble the same shape of the first two.
and as for the game cube the last i looked into it they didn't have any plains to make another one but that might have changed by now..it's been a while since i looked up anything on gamecube.
i personaly whould like to see a (real) picture of the xbox2 but damn people at microsoft arn't putting any real pictures out there yet ive found tons of fake pictures of both the ps3 and xbox 2 but so far they all suck well...most of them anyway..

Reesons why the controlers suck.
1 You'd have to learn to botton mash difrently.
2 You'd have to put your controler down to grab something(food, drink, phone, ect...)
3 It'd be look stupid and that be a small factor to not have people buy it.
4 When it vibrated it'd go crazy or wouldn't work as well.

There's more but I don't feel like it.

I don't see why dual controllers would be less comfortable than a single one. You could actually put your arms wherever you wanted while playing instead of keeping them right next to each other... and getting adjusted to a new controller isn't an issue for any gamer that's used consoles not from sony. Every Nintendo has had a new controller to get used to, you had to get used to the sega controller, the dream cast, the X Box, etc. etc.

I don't really like it just for the whole not being able to hold it in one hand and grab a drink quick between missions, but that wouldn't be too big of a deal.

Also: Vibration has always sucked. I don't know why they even put it in in the first place. I don't even FEEL vibration when I play the game. I've managed to tune it out completely. If I did feel it, it'd probably fuck me up.
