General Guidelines and Rules

There's currently no limit to LP threads running at any given time. As such, don't worry about posting to claim a "spot" or whatever.

You do not need to request permission to post an LP thread. We are much too small with respect to the traffic and activity we have related to LP threads to worry about an interest and test/sandbox kind of thread. That said, it's probably a good idea to think your idea through before jumpin' to hit that submit button.

You do not need to request permission to LP a certain game [though please bear in mind the following request if other people are already playing it].

In an effort to diversify content and make things less repetitive, we are discouraging the creation of many similar title/theme Let's Plays. For example, if two authors are doing titles from a series of games (e.g. Final Fantasy, Pokemon, Half Life), we would prefer not to see more of the same crop up until they have run. Perhaps look into a different title?

Please seriously consider if you do have the time, motivation, and interest in seeing an LP through from start to finish. LPs do indeed often seem like great ideas and lots of fun, but maybe then a week later you find out you can't commit to it or are already burned out or it's more work than you had thought, etc. It happens, and it's not anyone's fault; however, kicking around the ideas to yourself for a while gives you time to really get into it as well as hone your technique!

I strongly advise that you work out your technical aspects (capturing, hosting, post format) before charging forth. There are some great tips in SA's LP section that could help you out here, as well as any guides you may own, know of, or find out there on the ol' Interbuttz.

I will keep this thread updated, which means from time to time I will be checking in on LP threads if I am not already reading them to keep this list current. This includes adding new threads, archiving completed threads as well as ones that failed or have faded out, and shifting running threads to "Inactive" for a period when they seem to be losing momentum, have gone on a hiatus, or the like. After being inactive for a while, these threads will be archived as incomplete (note that I usually handle these stages based on a couple months or more depending on the situation, so it's not like you need to rush).

Feel free to post here with updated information if I have not already caught it.

In retrospect I should have known better than to try Mother LPs. Not only was I doing a picture LP, which takes more time and effort than a video one, but with games as funny as Earthbound and Mother 3, any attempt you make to make them funnier or anything for an LP will only detract from them.

That would be more than fine, in fact it would be very much appreciated. The 'with Mirai' part was temporarily derailed due to scheduling problems followed by technical problems, but I just updated it anyways this morning. Wireless issues might, and that is a very big might, be resolved, so it could potentially go back to co-op mode.

Ok, this isn't strictly on-topic, but this seems like the best place to put this.

_mike and I have an idea. A "Let's Watch" idea. The sum and whole of this idea is we watch a bad anime, talk about it, then post a recording of our banter for you guys to watch along with a free, legal stream of something. I can pretty much guarantee that what we say will be funny, I just want to know two things.

One: would anyone be interested in listening to an off-the-cuff, anime version of MST3K (but not as good) and

Two: Do you have any recommendations for bad anime for us to comment on. We're looking for something we haven't watched, ideally but not necessarily from the 80's or early 90's, and hopefully less than 30 episodes. Keep in mind when recommending something that the idea is to make us suffer.

Really, the only difference from our normal Saturday night is that we won't be watching Fist of the North Star and that we'll have microphones, so us getting this started and completed isn't an issue. We just want to know if anyone would enjoy this.

Remember, make us suffer.

Are there any guidelines on how to conduct a lets play? Like if you did a freeroam RPG but only left a handful of choices up to the viewers at the begining while directing the game from choices you decide "as the character"..is that an ok thing that isn't a big deal? Or is it a no-no?

I suppose strictly speaking LPs used to aim for some kind of reader involvement, but there are certainly many examples that are informative or humorous playthroughs wherein the reader is just along for the ride.

If you are still considering it, I'd say give it a whirl and see how it goes.

I've realised the big problem with my last LP was the sheer amount of text that Dragon Age needed me to transcribe. I'd like to have another go with New Vegas soon as it has far less text in general and due to the obsessive nature of Fallout fans much of it is online and easy to find.

Probably a lot has happened since I last came up here and did any updating. If anyone would like to pass LP-thread-related info along to me that I have terribly ignored, please feel free.

E: Does anyone other than me like having the links to incomplete LPs, no matter how little they progressed? I'm not doing it to be mean -- my own fail is in that list now -- but more for the chance a person may reboot it or get an idea for their own or see what happened / general NPF history. But maybe no one cares for that info and just wants the good ones. I put'em behind a swap tag for now, but suggestions on a list format are cool.

I've been kicking around an idea for a while now of doing a series of video LPs, with the large theme of "Games I had as a kid, but never actually finished" So far the list has Secret of Mana, Diddy's Kong-Quest, Goof Troop, and Tiny Toons: Buster Busts Loose.

Is this a good idea, or am I biting off way more than I can chew?

I also intend to finish the Breath of Fire LP, without ripping off Token so much. Maybe filling in the Heroes Dialogue by playing it completely straight

I finished my SMT LP. Technically, I finished it forever ago, but all of those posts were at Sexay Partay and I finally worked up the motivation to bring them over here so you could add another LP to the LPs finished list.

I'm also going to start a thread for the Sylvan Tale LP I've been doing. Just a bunch of bite-sized LP videos as I make my way through a Sega Game Gear game. I'm significantly through it, but I figure there's still enough left to go that it won't hurt to make a thread for it so that people here can check it out.
