In a grand and expensive gesture, my wife has purchased a PS3 for me as an anniversary present. So far my game collection is comprised of;
Soul Caliber IV
Final Fantasy XIII
Heavenly Sword
Batman: Arkham Asylum
I'm geeking out over the WiFi features. We've got the PS3 playing media off a laptop. There was pretty bad lag on video but I'm not sure if I just need to wait for it to buffer or something? Maybe someone can clarify. Remote play could come in handy as well, although I'm still dissapointed that it doesn't work in reverse (PSP display on TV - you need special component cables) AND you don't seem to be able to play PS3 titles on the PSP when remote play is enabled.
Online play is AWESOME. I played Soul Caliber for like 2 hours against one of my RL buddies. Texting insults to each other inbetween rounds. It was a triumph of modern technology.
We are still using an old analog set though, and everything is meant for HD. I can hardly read any text instructions with this SD picture.
Any suggestions for ways to use other features? I also need game suggestions. Not that I will be buying anytime soon but it will be nice to have a list to work from.

Go nuts. That's all the advice I can really give you.
You can install and run Linux on it right off the disk.

Query: What type of games do you like first of all? I may know a few that are good like Valkyria Chronicles but if you hate RPGs...
Welcome to the fold, Nique. I know it suffers from It's Popular Now It Sucks but I would HIGHLY recommend Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its sequel. YOU WILL LOSE DAYS OF YOUR LIFE TO THIS, ESPECIALLY ONLINE MODE.
Eternal Sonata is pretty, has interesting (though flawed) combat, and you get to play as FUCKING CHOPIN. That's badass in and of itself. I only played the 360 version, but I hear the PS3 version has bonus stuff. The ending doesn't make any sense, and everything is a musical pun, but I'd say it's still worth playing.
I hear Heavy Rain is a must play even if you don't like it.
God of War III if you're into that sort of thing.

Wipeout HD is something you should really buy. Little big planet is a must buy. You NEED to play it.

What
Have you been off the grid or hiding under a rock or <other cliche phrase here>? Welcome to what we've all been doing for years, I guess?

Soul Calibur is the best game to have for the PS3.
I have a solid collection. I recommend God of War 3, Infamous is a necessity, and virtually any game in a red case.

I keep hearing Uncharted is pretty decent. It's probably price dropped a decent amount by now too.

MGS4, fer sure.
Bioshock is pretty damn awesome.
Any and all of the Ratchet and Clank games, because platformers need tons of weapons.
Maybe Dynasty Warriors Gundam(or it's sequel), but only if you have a place for mindless hack-and-slash.
Speaking of Ninja Gaiden Sigma and it's sequel, but they're both fuck-all hard.

It's true, I've never played a console game over the world wide blag before. I was just surprised that a fighter worked so well. I'm sure I'm thinking of internet speed in terms of 1999 still, so....
Thanks for making me feel old. Jerk. : /

In addition to several that have already been mentioned, Katamari Forever and Disgaea 3 have eaten a LOT of my time. Disgaea should work fine on a SD setup too. Hell it isn't much of a graphical upgrade over a PSX game really. Katamari however is HD and uses it as part of it's gamplay(lots of tiny things to roll) so it might not be great without a HDTV.

Could install Linux. Newer versions, which Nique's probably is, have axed that I think.

It's the best game on the system! And it looks gorgeous if you're into graphics.

I got Disgaea 3 and Dynasty Gundam 2 a few weeks ago when I got my PS3 and I absolutely love both. I've done close to 90 missions with just one pilot on Gundam and I haven't grown tired of the hack'n'slash yet. I've also beaten the main story of D3 and I am power-levelling for the post game. I would suggest both.
The browser doesn't seem to work too well on GameFAQs. It occasionally gets stuck in the past (only happended once, but I was seeing posts from the previous day on page 1 with no newer topics), and sometimes it won't let me post in a topic more than once. Makes it kind of hard to browse the Pokemon trade boards. But it does Youtube pretty well.

I noticed that Netflix won't display properly either. Like, not at all. I wonder if there's an update I'm missing or something?

Actually, Netflix requires you to order a disk for your PS3 to run a program for it to see movies online.
It's free if you have a membership, so you just need to order it.

Awesome. Awesome to the max.
Anyone have a suggestion on the laggy-videos from the laptp thing? Is it a wifi problem or is the computer too slow?
