So the new Silent Hill (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS7xj78t4dk) trailer is out, and it has its theme playing in the background. Legendary (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVBrZ89YvNs) also has a few tracks floating around.

And I'm sitting here listening to each song and thinking "That sounds familiar!"

Well, the Legendary tune (http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=OM3aOF1T9qA&feature=related) kinda does, and the Silent Hill tune (http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=gGTUz4OnzdM&feature=related#t=02m28s) is reminiscent of an old Blizzard tune. (Listen to 2:28)

I don;t know, I might just be hearing similarities where there are none. The music from both games reminds me of the old Diablo music. Do you guys notice something weird in your games?

There are only 12 notes in Western Music. People are gonna put them in the same order from time to time.

Gotta agree with that. Also, I'm sure when someone hears a part of a song they really like, they borrow it and slip it in from time to time. Not verbatim in most cases, but if you have a really good bit that really fits the theme you're trying to convey, it's not completely horrible to change it up a bit and work from there. You'll probably end up modifying it beyond most recognition as you continue anyway.

Edit: On topic, stuff I notice in games tends to be stuff like voice actors and graphical tweaks. It kind of bugs me in games when the physics reset at the beginnings of engine-rendered cutscenes. It's a minor thing, but seeing every loose item of clothing or instance of long hair flutter down like the world's just stopped from a freefall as the conversation starts up kind of breaks immersion, and it's even worse if they've built the scene in pieces and it happens every time you switch camera angles.
