What I really dig about Soul Eater is that it takes basically every awful thing that Bleach does, and then doesn't do it. It doesn't have healing characters, because healing characters are inevitably useless wastes of space. It doesn't have people becoming completely goddamn useless so the main character has more room to be awesome. So on and so forth.

And then, like, you take all that, and the author pretty much just went, "Fuck it. I'm just gonna throw shit in here cuz it's rad."

Pretty much yeah, although so far it's not OMGDIFFERENT like FMA was because by the splitoff point in the anime they'd already introduced the main SE villain and the other big-league players. It's pretty rad though because they're both different enough to be worth watching / reading, like I sad you get more stuff in the manga with Ox / Kim / that one dude with the bitchin' midget-gloves which is cool cause I really liked those guys.

EDIT Basically Ox gets the best moment ever when he rips off his hair-things to prove his love for Kim.

Like, you get the first episode, and you're all "Hey. This isn't awful!" And then you skip the second and third episode because every sane person does, and it continues to be surprisingly good, and then you get to Crona and Medusa and you're suddenly "Man, this show is really dang rad." Well, except for episodes 2 and 3. Really, that shouldn't bode well for a show that it's two-thirds of the first three episodes are GODAWFUL, but apparently Soul Eater recovers from it pretty damn well.

I'm on episode 5 now, so all I really have to go off of is Noncon's recommendation and the fact that episode 4 was actually REALLY good.

Like, episode two is all about how Black Star is a complete fucking idiot who thinks he's the shit. Episode three is about how Kid Death is, as Fifth puts it, a total sperglord.

Both personality traits get scaled back quite a bit as the show progresses. Black Star is always an idiot, but he becomes less of an idiot, and it has been used in interesting ways. Kid Death's OCD gets used less in "He lost a fight because he's OCD as fuck" and more just for laughs, which makes it actually pretty great.

Right after these episodes, you get episodes 4 and 5 which is all about Death sending Black Star and Maka on a suicide mission cuz they're a bunch of fuckups. You also get Sid and Stein, who are both holy shit awesome.

What I really dig about Soul Eater is that it takes basically every awful thing that Bleach does, and then doesn't do it. It doesn't have healing character


Well there is a healing character but they give her a fucking flamethrower weapon partner and an awesome side story arc, so it's cool.


Also newest manga arc, so great, funniest part of the whole damn series is EXCALIBUR being the incarnation of wrath. It nearly hurt me I laughed so much. The genderswap part was pretty great too, especially the revelation about Tsubaki and Blair stuck as a Catboy and outsexy-ing a fucking succubus. Plus Kidd vs Black Star is going to just flat out rock. The series just keeps getting better and better.
