I am filled with distress at this trailer. This is the worst thing. Not even the fanboy "THAT ISN'T DANTE" rage, it's just... that's not him. It's so not him. Even in an ultra-prequel, it's just... not him. There's no style to his movements. No real energy or excitement. Even his flying earth punch wasn't really 'him'.

Looks more like a wannabe with delusions of being Dante. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the storyline of the game, too.

Aside from that, they already DID young Dante in DMC3. You know, one of the best ones!

Hahaha this looks so stupid. I mean, I've never been big on Capcom plots, but this seems to run in the wrong-ass direction. I mean, seriously? Subject insert number what is your name blah blah blah is so overdone, moronic, and impossible to take seriously, though they seem to be trying their best. I'll give it a shot, but I never was big on God of War, and from what I hear the gameplay of Heavenly Sword was largely ripped off that, so I fear that this game will be a much different kind of action game than I'm interested in. The character doesn't act or look like Dante. Yes, his behavior has been different throughout the games, but looking at them chronologically you can at least imagine some sort of progression from snarky college boy to a bit older, more mature Dante, and finally to a brooding hero. This just feels out of place, and retconning Dante's hair color to make him look younger is just really silly.

As I pointed out to a friend who showed me a screencap of the trailer, there's a point in the cinematic where Dante is firing his guns with his arms outstretched in opposite directions. But he doesn't have his finger on the trigger.

Well, they were always edgy at least. Dark I'll concede. They had a very dark setting, but not a very dark protagonist.

This seems to be the opposite of that, where the world doesn't seem like it's quite as horrible, but Dante is all dark instead for some reason.

Anyone else think this is going to have some lame and pointless excuse for why Dante's hair is silver later and its black in this one? And you just know it'll be some big plot point and they'll think its all dramatic and stuff for people to play.

Judging by Japanese culture and the symbolism of white hair within it, I'd guess that the 'big plot point' will be Dante realizing his demonic potential and maturing those powers.

Then again, Ninja Theory is an English company, so, depending on how much leeway they've been given with the writing, it could really be anything. Maybe he dyes it to fit in, as he seems to be a teenager here--not even a college kid.

Also: I'm a bit torn on this. On the one hand, I really like Ninja Theory. Heavenly Sword was, honestly, much better than GoW or DMC on the story side, and probably about equivalent for game play. And I can even forgive one or two of the discrepancies in the trailer. Dante being so scrawny could be explained by his being a kid, and the stupid way he dresses/wears his hair can be pretty easily explained by 'lawl 70s/80s'.

But that doesn't really make it ok, and it doesn't really explain why he appears to be in some kind of dystopian future even though he's younger. The stuff he's up against looks like robots and shit, not demons. The city looks futuristic, maybe even post-apocalyptic, not 70s/80s.

I don't know.

I haven't played Heavenly Sword. Maybe if I had, I'd be more optimistic. The thing that really makes me distrust this game, and incredibly skeptical, is the human interaction we've seen in the game. This whole "Subject 4395392" or whatever it is. (I'm too lazy to actually check) That whole bit reeks of the kind of fiction you get from high school students.

That, and they're talking about how it's a world where "the line between good and evil is blurred", which just sounds buzzwordy as hell, and I highly doubt is something the actual game will live up to. The stupid jacket and other stuff I'm complaining about is just stuff that annoys me, and makes me feel my skepticism is well placed. Not necessarily valid reasons to be dismissive of the game on their own.

I hope there is a scene where you have to fight Virgil, but then when you are done it shows the battle as onlookers would see it, and you are actually beating the shit out of yourself.

And then there are flashbacks through all the series and every time you thought you were fighting Virgil it is really you stabbing yourself.

And then in the very end it shows Dante just before DMC: 4 jamming his sword through his head to finally stop Virgil.

I mean Ebony and Ivory are revolvers. His Sword is just weird. It could be entirely possible that the people he is fighting are people just trying to contain him or It could be entirely possible that this is just a insane guy fighting figments of his imagination. because of some Post tramatic stress disorder dealing with demons and seeing Dante at work.

I think the thing that differentiates this game's plot being bad from the plots of the rest of the series, is that this one seems to take itself a bit more seriously, over-the-top action aside. A flawed plot that doesn't take itself seriously doesn't expect you to take it seriously, and as a result the player tends to be much more forgiving. A flawed plot that takes itself too seriously is just irritating.

Why the hell does DMC need rebooted? It's only been around for one console's life time? I just bought the first one last year and didn't quite finish it, even. It was only six bucks or something, it was worth playing, it was pretty fun...

I know next to nothing about the actual series since like I said never completely beat the first one, but couldn't Limbo City be like a demon city in another dimension or something? That would take care of why it has advanced technology whereas humanity is in the '70s or whatever...
