Patch 4.0 went live today. They changed a ton of stuff, down to the basic abilities used by most of the classes. Many casters can now use certain spells while running (even ones with cast bars), and the entire talent system has been refurbished.

Hows everyone liking the changes? I like what they've done to warrior tanking and fire spec a lot. Firestrike is now SPAMTASTIC.

Im still downloading it now, I only know about the changes they're making because they were on the Public Test Realm.

They deliver the magical nuke to all the landmasses yet?

The land, race/class combos, and other Cataclysm features won't be available until after the expansion is released. Right now they've just changed the mechanics of preexisting classes via changes to some base abilities and talent trees.

During the install, I keep seeing the words "Worgen" and "goblin" pop up in the files its processing. While Im sure they won't be playable and their home areas won't be up yet, if you have the means to go looking around through the program files you may be able to find all the models and stuff already there awaiting their use in the expansion.

EDIT: Guess what guys!? Its Teusday! Server maintainence LOL!

Judging by 3.0, all the data for Cataclysm is going live, with new areas (as in brand new areas, not old-and-torn-to-pieces areas) and races being locked by prompts that go something like "You need to upgrade to this expansion pack which hasn't been released yet".

Actually, they have done said there will be a pre-release event about two weeks before the X-Pac hits where the actual race-class and world changes will be implemented. No purchase needed.

So look forward to it.

Patch soooo goooood.

Leveled a prot warrior from like 14-24 in around 4-5 hours by running through the dungeon finder lots. It seems most of the class changes while levelling implement main features of the class early on because of the way they changed talents to give important abilities at level 10 (but block access to other trees once you've selected one). Seems like it would be annoying, but being able to have abilities like Veangance, Shield Slam, etc at level 10 helps to remove that feeling that you're just playing this shitty low level thiiing while you level. Just started a new account (long story) so I don't have any 80s to play on yet, but at this rate I'll be there soon.

Yeah, It took me a bit at first, but I'm liking the pally point system, and tanking is easier now for me.

I was all set to download the xbox hueg patch and try to make sense of what they did to pallies but my motherboard died that very morning.

Ain't that a bitch.

Ouchu.

Anyway, apperentally people can fly in the new cities... though I'm also being told it's a glitch...

Maybe I've just had my head up my arse the whole time I was playing, but thus far there have been no new cities released. Are you talking about the Cataclysm Beta maybe?

Cities are being revamped to allow for flying mounts.

The whole world will allow it when it's over, unless they've rolled back on that idea.

Exploding from underground and re-drawing the map gives'em the excuse they needed to get off their butts and re-do the maps anyway.

Ok, upset that I lost my hybrid build... but at least I could re-train some of my abilities back.. guess it wasn't all THAT bad, but it looks like I gotta re-learn how to basically play her just to be sure.

Logging into my warlock with an ENTIRE 22 SLOT BAG fresh and empty was so great. Also hand of Gul'dan is neat, though I can't help but think that molten core and decimation aren't nearly as good as they should be without emberstorm. New Felguard is pretty cool - he has two non-autocast abilities that you need to drag onto the pet bar to use.

On the alt front, my resto druid can roll lifebloom on the tank and go to sleep. Utgarde Keep used to keep me on my toes with fire runes and the last boss, but now those runes tickle and the last boss drops like a rock - doesn't get more than one shout off in either phase.

Tauren or Night elf? I've seen some art of the new tree form and am just wondering if the different races have their own or what.

I think tanking in general got a lot better. I've been leveling a warrior tank and I consistently deal about 50% of the entire party's damage while self-healing via Victory Rush. Levels go maddeningly fast in the dungeon finder. I think I've logged somewhere around 20 hours of play time and I'm nearly level 40 now without the assistance of BoA or recruit-a-friend.

Tauren. I never clicked tree because it's a cooldown (like demo metamorphosis) and I never needed a cooldown to keep everyone healthy.

The only time I ever found it difficult to run tree heals was when we'd do a PuG 10-man and have just an absolutely shitty second healer, leaving me stuck to support an entire ten dudes who lack any coordination.

The five mans I'd run with, I'd spend 70% of my time in cow form doing DPS just because otherwise I'd be doing nothing. If they've made tree heals even easier, then I can't even see needing to spec for it outside of raids with the way spellpower is now, I'd just "heal" in balance.

To be honest I think it's more changes to Utgarde Keep than to healing; the fire rune ability used to deal enough damage to kill a dps from full hp in 4 seconds, the double boss' dot was pretty scary, and the final boss had some very hard-hitting abilities and enough hit points to get 2-3 stacks of his +damage debuff up, more if a dps dropped.

Yeah, I mostly remember running UK heroics and almost never having to care, as opposed to running say, VH heroics and never having to care. (Like seriously, VH is a joke and even before any kind of survivability buffs I'm pretty sure we could have ran it with four DPS.)

But then again I had a steady tank who knew what he was doing, and generally had at least one DPS slot covered by a mediocre player at worst, and another DPS slot covered by a guy who regularly wins tournaments and tops charts, meaning the DPS was generally smart enough to not need a healer in the first place.

Well, playing on my Pali, and checking out both Prot and Ret... I think I'll stick with Ret on my Pali. I'm liking it, especally for a newie to the game like me.

Cataclysm cinematic. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wq4Y7ztznKc) I stopped playing a while ago due to burnout, but I wouldn't mind being a snack for Deathchin.
