Good thing is that shooting them doesn't make the NCR troops at Forlorn Hope hostile. It does make the other limbless troopers hostile, but that's not really much of a problem.

They'll bite your legs off!

I am saddened that I've only had one Legion Assassination Squad sent after me. I want more random encounters in New Vegas like the Talon Mercs/Regulators from Fallout 3 where I have to deal with a never ending stream of armor, ammo and weapons packed corpses.

I went into the Deathclaw cave where you can find the Legendary Deathclaw :(
Ran into it and the Mama at the same time - that didn't end well. Then I came back with the Tesla-Beaton :D

I just beat the game. Boy did that last fight suck. I came a bit underequipped, with enough ammo to kill everything twice (I sold all my drugs for that, after all) but not with enough of the big guns to make it worth it. And yeah, I decided I'd use no energy weapons on my first playthrough because they made Fallout 3 a cakewalk even with no proficiency in energy weapons. In the end I set up all the mines I had all over the camp. I didn't have too much, but enough to make a difference. And once the Big Boss (whom I also sneak attacked, because I'm such a fair player) was dead I could pick off the mooks with my weak-ass guns.

Then more people from that other, slightly more likable, faction came and wanted to be killed. That was rather easy though.

Maybe not right now, but next I'll try Hardcore mode, which will probably lead me to playing more of a selfish character, due to the constant necessity to drink out of other people's toilets in order to not die. And eat food. I know I'll hate it already.

Energy weapons are weaker this time around. About on par with guns this time. Though as a note they do have less variance in ammo and you can convert other ammo for other energy weapons into more ammo for yourself, most of the ammunition is pretty light in comparison to some guns ammo. And the recharger group needs no ammo at all.

They also tend to use less AP and need less in the way of strength requirements. But they can be a pain when facing well armored opponents if you haven't stocked up on the Max Charge, or are not so good at aiming at faces.

one thing that bugs me abit is, if I kill faction members, and it is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to find out, I still get infamy. Makes it harder to RP a backstabber

Really I haven't had the problem. Are you sure that no one can find out? And by that I mean even if the person you are killing is absolutely alone if they know who killed them they will telepathically report it to the whole faction. As long as you can get a one hit sneak attack kill from stealth without breaking stealth you can kill any faction member in a room packed full of faction members with no consequence. At least it worked that way for me on the PS3 last time I tried it.

Yeah, this is how it works for me more often than not.

I've gotten busted because people noticed me once I started swinging my fist or shooting though, so just getting the guy alone is really the best option.

I want one of those neato veteran ranger armors. any way i can do that without murdering one of them and ransacking his corpse?

You know when the president is about to be assassinated? Apparently if you defuse the bomb on the Vertibird, and then inform Mr. Security, the sniper will miss the prez and take out a vet. ranger instead. Loot. Wear. Guilt free!

During the "You'll know it when it happens" quest, watch the tower with the sniper in it carefully. A second sniper will appear and murder the first, once this has been done, head to the roof and remove the bomb from the Presidents vertibird, then inform the ranger grant about it.
The important part here is that once you've informed him, you'll need to immediately move from where the ranger captain is to behind the stage, you'll need to go around the massive cannon since getting too close to the stage gets you shot by the Vets.

Just before the pair of Rangers reaches the Pres to get him out of there, the sniper in the tower will take a shot at the escorts. Killing one of the vets.
Loot his body with extreme caution, as if you step too far onto the stage the other vets will still shoot and kill you like the heartless criminal scum you are.

I never got a bomb on the vertibird. I got an insane dude with a knife and a sniper.

The knife guy will have had a detonator on the corpse methinks.
Also maybe if your character weren't so dumb and silly and incapable of proper explosives detection he'd have found the bomb too?

There's always reverse pick pocketing. Just get something with a higher DT, slip it onto a ranger who sticks around a given area, then wander off someplace else for awhile and go back.

It's why in my game there's a pair of prostitutes outside Gomorrah dancing around in full combat armor.

I'm pretty sure you don't lose reputation with a faction when you don't get caught killing their people. I got lucky enough to see a single lone ranger wandering through the wastes and put a 3.08 round between his eyes. Armor was as good as mine. Thanks to Jury Rig, one suit was all I needed, as repairs could be done with just about any armor ever.

EDIT: But really, in my opinion, there should be a legitimate means of getting that armor as a quest reward from the NCR. If you behave nicely enough, do some of their missions, you should be able to join them and stuff.

EDIT AGAIN: They're probably going to let you do just this if you sided with the NCR in the DLC they'll inevitably make that lets you play after the normal end of the game.

Darn the entertainment in this thread. I was supposed to have been AC'ing hours ago. I'm still rofl'ing from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToKIkw3LIoQ

"WHAT IS WRONG WI-", haha....

I'd ask some late-handed questions about the game, but I'll just keep reading this thread.

That's a really clever idea. That's something I probably would never have come up with on my own.

Also, what do those prostitute clothes look like on your presumably male character?

So I decided to take all I learned from my first play through (which isn't quite done yet) and see how good I could twink a new character. So far I'm level 3 have 290 Hp, 1305 caps, 9 strength, 2 perception (one of those points is from a hat), 9 endurance, 4 charisma (all me), 9 intelligence, 9 agility, and 1 luck. I am already a god among men after two levels. I've also got 102 ap which allows for crazy a amount of vats attacks. I can't wait to get some implants going. This guy might be slightly too ridiculous. I blame the game engine for making it so obvious that skill points have essentially the largest impact on your ability to do anything.

I created an endurance 1 character. There are some things having lots of skill points just can't make up for. But it is oddly hilarious to play.

Good luck in Vegas.

I've never bothered to gamble and the lack of normal critical strikes isn't a problem either. You see eventually I'm going to have better criticals, ninja, and silent running. Then use the Oh Baby or Pushy and everything is going to be sneak attack criticals with super crazy high damage. Then for anything I just can't sneak up on there is always Mercy. It makes short work of even death claws.

While browsing a fallout wiki I came across what is probably best perk ever (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Meat_of_Champions)

not because its overpowered, but because of how you get it

10 luck turns you into a one-shot critical machine from which their is no escape.

With 10 luck, Finesse, and 1st Recon Beret you can actually reach 100% critical rate with some of the weapons.

So for PC users what's everyone's mod loadout?

Me I got

-Nevada Skies which makes the sky a lot better looking and adds cool weather effects such as rain, really intense sandstorms, thunderstorms and radstorms(which actually make outside radioactive).

-Bobblehunt adds Bobbleheads throughout the wasteland to find and adds bobblehead stands to all your houses. The SPECIAL bobbleheads aren't overpowered like the FO3 ones, instead of adding a point to each SPECIAL stat they add a special bonus tailored to each stat (agility for instance adds 3 points to VATs and increases running speed by 5%)

- RadioNVextend which lets you adds songs to Radio NV which I've used to add a bunch of old songs I think fit Vegas as well as some new songs that don't stand out too badly as well as soem favourites from Fallout 3. Kind of buggy and I'm looking for a more stable option but it has given me one of the coolest moments of serendipity I've ever seen in a game. As I was going for the last part of the Wild Card ending, with the assault on Lanius' camp, Frank Sinatra's My Way started playing. And I just started a berserk laugh at how hilariously appropriate and perfect it was. It was probably the best time gaming I've had all year other than maybe the first time I beat a Red-eyed black knight in Demons Souls.

I don't use very many. The ones I do have I got because I feel they counteract deficiencies in the game.

Veronica Fix - fixes Veronica so that she actually levels up beyond lvl 12.

ammo ingredients loot - Adds ammo ingredients to some vendors and I think also adds them to some containers around the world. Really useful since the primers and powders are so scarce.

easy weapon mods - weapon mods now appear on vendors that are 'supposed' to have them. Basically, the Silver Rush carries energy weapon mods, gun runners carries almost all other kinds. Other vendors at Goodsprings, Novac, etc. carry limited numbers of mods for the guns that they regularly stock.

Companion Dress up - allows you to remove companions' default armor and weapons.

I've been toying with the idea of getting the perk every level mod, but I'm already lvl 30, so I might just wait until my next playthrough.

I also seem to have encountered some kind of bug that's really annoying. Completing a transaction at Gun Runners now crashes my game. I tried four times yesterday. Twice it crashed the whole computer and forced a restart, and twice it just crashed the game to desktop.

With 10 luck, Finesse, and 1st Recon Beret you can actually reach 100% critical rate with some of the weapons.
It's too bad I hate the way the beret looks. I may just see if I can make a unique bandana in the geck with the same stats.

where do you guys go for your mods?

I got more populated casinos

ED-E light step (so your flying companion doesn't set off traps)

perk every level (not a balance issue, I just like getting something more then skill points each level)

bottle that water- adds a canteen and allows you to refill empty water bottles.

Icidently, these are from http://newvegasnexus.com/

I was tempted to get their child kill mod, which also adds the perk child killer that gains infamy with all factions, but I only wanted it because I liked having the option (and little lamp light) but they are so uncommon I didn't think it was worth the effort.

I wanted the item sorter mod, but worried about the effects it will have on my game. Do you guys find it worth it?

[edit] and and MTUI- changes fonts and menu sizes so they better fit HD monitors

It would let you kill the Legion kids training at the Fort.

Pity there isn't a mod that if you activate ARCHIMEDES at Helios One, you get to see the Death From Above activate and wipe out a portion of Freeside due to that little brat using the targeting gun.
