Since a cursory search showed me that the last SCII thread was the beta thread I figured it was time for a new one.

I've finally gotten a chance to get into the ladder scene and though my placement matches dropped me into bronze league, I've been steadily climbing. I'm playing terran, along with 2/3 of my league it seems like. Five of my last eight games have been TvT's. TvT is also the matchup I'm least comfortable with so maybe all the practice will do me some good, but it's kind of annoying. I mean, in TvZ I've been having a lot of success with thor/hellion, and in TvP I've been doing very well with marine/ghost with fast nukes but I can't for the life of me find something I'm confortable with in TvT. I tend to like more mech based play so I've been trying Tank/Marine/Viking, but half the time they just kill me before I can get tanks with siege up.

Anyways, general discussion thread for SCII go!

I stopped playing multiplayer a long time ago. It's probably the most stressful game I've ever played. The reaction times required for your average FPS are nowhere near the levels needed for SC2 to get anywhere beyond Bronze league (at least in the EU). Ugh.

What are the UMS maps looking like these days? That's pretty much the only reason I'll play SC2 so im wondering where the progression is in terms of quality maps.

I sort of gave up on StarCraft II after realizing it would take nothing short of unhealthy dedication to become 'good' at the multiplayer ladder. I have no history with Brood War or really any other RTS besides messing around. I was just crawling into the Gold leagues when I stopped.

I am eagerly awaiting the Blizzard mods though. En Taro Cuisine!

That's pretty much how it was for me, Azisien, though add a platinum rank into the mix too. Just started getting too frustrating to me. Most games ended up in me getting steamrolled anyway, because I just can't micro very well, nor can I handle expanding, base building, defending, and attacking all at the same time, it overloads my little pea-brain.

i'm just waiting for the fun variants to come back*, and playing actual games with people I know are at my level.

I caught the finals of Korea's second big Starcraft 2 tournament. A Zerg who won every previous match 4-0 against a Terran who impressed the hell out of everyone with Marine micro. Zerg got shut down trying to hatch before pool in the first match by a really aggressive marine+SCV rush, using mules to sustain marine production after the first push died (taking most drones with them). Ultimately came down to 4-3 in Zerg's favor, with Z defending the same hatch before pool against the same double rax rush in the 7th match.

The sad thing is that I understood every bit of that.
And I don't even own the game!

Seriously, though, is it worth paying 50 bucks for? I've watched a few replays/shoutcasts (hence my knowlege of the game), but I'm not sure, yet.

I had a lot of fun with it for the month or two that I played it. It's definitely a lot more fun though if you have a friend to play with over some sort of voice-chat thing, and a large part of the reason I stopped playing was that he did too.
