View Full Version : The give & get sale at Steam

So, I was looking around the Steam store to see what could I find, and there's a sale going from today to Nov 29. The thing about this sale is that you can get huge discounts in some games if you buy them in bundles. So, I was thinking maybe we could buy these bundles and expand our TF2 and L4D2 weekends to other games. And also to save some money while getting new games ^_^

You missed the best part! Valve is giving away games. They're going to pick 30 random people each day, and give them 5 games from their wishlists. You are eligible if you have 10 or more things on yours.

Details here. (http://store.steampowered.com/?Give&Get)

I can't decide if I want Alpha Protocol at the current price or not.

Also, similar to akasm's thinking, we should bolster our TF2 and L4D crews - and even then mainly the latter since almost everybody has TF2 - to make these events even more insanely awesome!

It's only €7.50.
I got it for full-price on my PS3, and I had fun with it.

Just go for it, dude.

Yeah, the ratings against Alpha Protocol are all pretty unfair. The writing is basically the best you're going to see in a video game, and character choices actually make a significant difference to how the game unfolds. Just because they don't let you know that you should invest into some kind of gun at the beginning for boss fights, if nothing else, is really no reason to rate it as low as it's been rated by a lot of people.

I got myself Counter Strike: Source for £3.50, which I think was a very good deal indeed.

Hey guys, guess what?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/

L4D2 is on sale, you can get a 6 copy bundle for only 24.99, making each copy just about 4 USD, I think this is a great opportunity for those who don't have it (last weekend I counted Ryong and Mac)

Also, there are some big damn discount on indie game packs . Oh boy, my account is gonna be filled with these :3

Guys, massive spoilers ahead.

"The Indie bundles and gift packs of games over the next 4 days of the Steam sale have been leaked, via THE COMPETITION. This was made available before today’s sale, and contained everything that went on sale today, so I think it is safe to assume it is legit.

These Indie Packs, if the same price as the previous 2, will be £3.99 each:
Indie Air Pack: Altitude, DogFighter, Flotilla, Gratuitous Space Battles, Plain Sight
Indie Clever Pack: Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, Eufloria, Iron Grip: Warlord, VVVVVV, World of Goo
Indie Pulse Pack: Audiosurf, Beat Hazard, Bit Trip Beat, The Polynomial, Rhythm Zone
Indie Puzzle Pack: Cogs, Droplitz, Puzzle Dimension, Shatter, Tidalis

Also leaked were the games that are going to be available in multi Packs for gifting, and how many will be in the pack, although without prices (but they have all been heavily discounted so far):
Aliens Vs Predator TWO THOUSAND AND TEN 6-pack
Braid 10-pack
Empire: Total War 6-pack
Freedom Force 10-pack
Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City 6-pack
Just Cause 2 8-pack
Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West 10-pack
Mount & Blade: Warband 6-pack
Nyxquest: Kindred Spirits 10-pack
Osmos 12-pack
Portal 6-pack
Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale 8 pack
Red Faction: Gorilla 8-pack
Splinter Cell: Conviction 6-pack
Trine 8-pack
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Chaos Rising 8-pack
World of Goo 12-pack

Not leaked were the individual sale items, so the surprise hasn’t been totally ruined.

Edit: Something worth mentioning. A lot of the items in multi packs so far have also been discounted individually."

I picked up the Deus Ex pack with a few minutes to spare

Really hoping the Fallout pack would have gone up, but oh well

edit: I feel sorta dumb, but what determines the 'rank' of my wishlist items and how do I change it if I can?

With all these Indie Packs my game list is going to be massive.

Also, totally nabbed the Kane and Lynch 2 deal today, that was a sweet grab.

Drag and drop is the easiest way to change the ranking when you're looking at the list. Just don't click on the picture for the game since that'll take you to the store page.

I just grabbed Audiosurf and the Indie Story Pack. Good stuff.

I was torn on Kane and Lynch 2 and Arkham Asylum. Since I've played and beat both games on the console, I ended up passing, but I do have a clear weakness for wanting to see how much more/less sexy games are running on the PC.

Edit: Also anybody interested in Left 4 Dead 2 should consider this. (http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?p=1089407#post1089407)

Hm.. I'm planning to get just the indie packs since my computer's specs are not up to snuff for most of this gen's games. Though, I am interested in getting TF2 and or L4D2 at some point... Maybe become decent enough to join the NPF gaming throw downs.

Did the Zombie Charity thing happen? because the L4D offer is gone. Also, I'll get Blur, yay for local multiplayer on 1 PC ^_^

Already got it last night. Might be the only thing I get from the sales, though, considering I need to save money for people's christmas gifts.

Pretty much didn't happen at this point because either everybody has it or nobody cares. :p

So just yesterday I was talking about how I was in the mood for a sim and/or strategy game and was thinking of getting Empire Total War and Tropico 3. Guess what came on special today. I am a happy camper. Now I just need to wait for me to have enough internet to download the things.

Heard such great things about it so I grabbed Warhammer 40K. Considering Episodes from Liberty City because I never got to grab those on the 360. Heard pretty mediocre things about the past GTA ports to PC, though. Anybody aware of GTA4 and Episodes?

Not bad games but you're warned that they carry their own DRM plus Steam's that may slow down your computer.

Hahahahaha, petty things like Steam don't slow down my computer. Decided against Episodes from Liberty though. I can probably just rent or borrow that one for free and run it on the 360, since I now recall I have played most of Lost and the Damned.

Whoa, some idiot is giving away copies of games for FREE! (http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?p=1089686#post1089686)

Oh well, the Episodes will go on sale individually. Some day.

Grabbed World of Goo and Warband.

Woohooo! Our NPF TF2 Squad grows!!

Also, if you get the Orange Box you'll be able to play Portal and the Half-Life 2 franchise! And you need to do that because they're awesome.

Hm.. the same. I just need more broadband to download it to my PC without going overboard this month...
Also, the current indie pack(puzzle) seems a bit lack lustered to my eyes so far. So sadly I have to drop that pack for Warband.

I've heard the original doesn't weigh too much on 2. Although I own the original and all parts of 2, I haven't played any of them... I should do that. Well, I have played 2, but I get stuck so very often that I just stopped. I should get back to it.

I'm currently playing the original Half Life on my PS2. While it has glimmers of Valve's signature brilliance and.... well... Valveness scattered throughout, I find it less compelling and interesting than the sequels. It has a few great moments, but nothing near as good as HL2 and Portal.

I started with HL2 and I really don't think I missed much in terms of plot by skipping the original. As long as you go into HL2 knowing that Gordon Freeman (you) was involved in a crazy experiment gone wrong which ended up with aliens and zombies running around Earth, sccrewing stuff up and killin' folks left and right, you'll be fine. The sequel does a good job filling you in on certain other details, and actually as far as I'm concerned, that feeling of overwhelmed unknowing actually contributes to the experience of the game. It has a much better plot than the original, too. Plus, more creepy G-Man sightings!

Well the original HL was groundbreaking for it's time, and while it's not strictly necessary to play to understand HL2 I found it nice.

But yeah, given the years (6) it took for HL2 to come out after HL they included more than enough of what story there was in HL to bring you up to speed. What really impressed me about HL2 is how well they adjusted to bring about a new game that was still ahead of the FPS curve in terms of innovating narrative. I really feel that's one of Valve's strongest suits.
