View Full Version : The internet gaming deals thread

So, after seeing that there are some awesome deals in the past weeks, I thought we needed a thread for this, specially since it's quite easy to miss something if you're not used to using it. Also, some deals in games may be only local so, I think we should get only deals that are related to some online store like Steam or the GFWL marketplace. And remember to add a short description to your post ^_^

For the first post in this thread, I found this:

http://store.steampowered.com/treasurehunt

Basically, there are some achievements in a page, for games that have discounts for a couple days. If you fulfill all the achievements, you get a chance to win your top 5 games in your wishlist. Also, if you get 10 achievements during the promotion, and login on Dec. 20th, you can win 100 games you want O_O. Also, TF2 hats :P.

And the other one is this:

http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/dailydeal/day5/

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for only 0.99 USD (or it's equivalent) at the GFWL store.

Left4Dead 2 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/) for $5 at Steam.

Killing Floor (http://store.steampowered.com/app/1250/) is Steam's midweek sale this week. For $7 USD.

Sure, it's no L4D2, but it is fun enough in it's own right.

...And I'm so not mentioning this because I need more people to play this game with. Not at all, no sir.

Killing Floor is also going to have an awesome Christmas event thing where all the monster types become freakish abominations of the holidays (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnmUFGbx2M0). I'll probably pick it up.

Okay, after playing through some of the "Twisted Christmas" stuff on Killing Floor, I gotta say that if you have ever considered getting this game, this may the time. Gunning down a horde of horrible-looking gingerbread-men mutants that were chasing after me saying things like "Don't eat me!" and "Don't worry, I don't bite!" was very enjoyable.

Just Cause 2 is $7.50 on Steam today. That's a steal for that game. Unless you don't like random and awesome destruction, but that would mean you're a boring person. You aren't boring, are you?

(Although to be fair, if you buy your games for the story, don't expect much out of JC2)

if you overcharge your paypal account it will just siphon funds from credit card or checking account, depending on how its set up, so dont worry about it

akaSM

That would actually work.... but the card I got linked to paypal isn't active anymore, I got a new card from my college, so I had to give the bank my old card. In fact, I got a completely new account :/. I would have to go to the bank to activate my new card with paypal.

EDIT: Oh, I also e-mailed the team in case I don't get any way to pay more than 65 cents, maybe I can donate to them or something after I get some money in my paypal account. The charities, I'm not really worried about them, you can donate anytime, but I'm not so sure about the Humble Bundle guys :/.

Today's Telltale deal is about getting a game free with another purchase i.e. have something else in your cart. You could get Poker Night at the Inventory free by adding anything...even this (telltalegames.com/bttfoffer). Now, I'n not sure if it's supposed to work this way, but it works :/.

Y'kow what's really, really tempting? The Steam sale. Specifically, the publisher's packs. Many games. Many, many games. For comparatively low prices. Sooo tempting.
And I have the money too!

But I still dunno... is it worth it? I'm gonna have some time to play, but not nearly enough to get through anything.

So advise me, my experienced gamer comrades! Which of those packs is most worth buying?

Ned's Zombie thing and Roxie's Underdome aren't really worth it in my opinion. The zombie DLC just adds a new area and some quests, and the Underdome is just a series of arena fights that don't even give you experience for any kills you make in them. The only benefit of the Underdome is the item storage system that they added with it.

Knoxx's Armory, however, is pretty awesome. You get new areas, new quests, your level cap is raised by 11, new vehicles, and there are even tricks to get into the armory without having the time limit, thus allowing you to loot to your hearts content (though those might have been patched since the last time I played). Also the Armory DLC gives you the ultimate boss, Crawmerax, who's a huge pain the ass to fight, and who you can only fight after beating the main questline.

And I haven't played the Claptrap Revolution yet so I dunno what it gives you other than a new area and new quests.

I nabbed Spore and Reccettear off there the other day. Late to the party, I know, but still.

Spore is pretty ok, don't like the space stages. Everything up to that is cool. Have been having trouble getting it to register, though.

Recettear is basically fantastic in every conceivable way. The item shop thing induces the same 'Ok, one more day... one more day... oh shit, where'd the last 8 hours go?' that Princess Maker and Civilization and a few other games have done, and the adventuring makes me feel like I'm playing an old SNES era LoZ game.

Well worth the 7 or 8 dollars I paid. Probably worth more than I paid for Spore, really.

New Vegas is the only one on sale today that I'd buy, though. But I already have it. Totally recommend it for anyone who doesn't, however, especially at the 40% off price tag.

I think Steam's servers are suffering from the sheer amount of deals. Earlier I was downloading Counter Strike Source and I was peaking at about 300 kb/s (and that was if I was lucky), and my standard download rate on Steam is usually 2 mb/s.

I got New Vegas today just because of that, but the game's even cheaper due to being discounted already from the Bethesda deal. $25 for New Vegas was a steal, in my opinion.

But now I have the problem of having to play Fallout 3 GOTY AND New Vegas. Along with my still growing pile of unplayed games. Just a matter of time before my head explodes.
