*wishes he could double tag something*

So, I was curious...what is the piece of music from a game you would put in as your favorite of all time?

Mine is well *clears throat and yells* THREE! FOUR! FIVE! LEFT! HUT!

Hell March Original (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb-gI_pFog0)

No one does it as well as Frank Klepacki does it in my view. ^_^

Shadowlord White Note Remix from Nier (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrwvtyWiicI)

The Nier soundtrack is fantastic, and just one of those things I don't get tired of. I can pretty much go "Feel like listening to Nier" pick a song at near random, and be perfectly happy with the result. The White Note Remix of Shadowlord combines some of the best elements of the soundtrack, and gets a result that goes from emotionally moving to enjoyable fight music.

Personally I preffered Red Alert 2s' version of Hell March. Anything from Half-Life 2 and Portal is pretty awesome too.

Oh and the obligatory Otherworld, from FFX goes here.

Of course we all know that the game with the best all round soundtrack ever though, is GTA; Vice City.

Hell March Original (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb-gI_pFog0)Pretty cool. Feels weird as a march, though. Too erratic.

Though I haven't played any of the C&C games due to my rampant hatred of RTS in general (RTS and sports games), so maybe it's utilized well in the game.

Either way, a good listen without context.

This is a really interesting/neat piece. Like the combination of the orchestral voices and instruments with the rather jazzy piano back. And just the piano itself, for that matter, but the combination is what, I think, brings it home.

Starts a bit slow though.

Personally I preffered Red Alert 2s' version of Hell March. Anything from Half-Life 2 and Portal is pretty awesome too. Obligatory Still Alive reference complete.

Oh and the obligatory Otherworld, from FFX goes here.Obligatory Otherworld mention complete.

Of course we all know that the game with the best all round soundtrack ever though, is GTA; Vice City.GTA games shouldn't even really count. They're just using songs from my past.

Personally, I enjoy the No More Heroes sound track even to this day, and Pleather for Breakfast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TX9o6uZnEs) is my favorite piece on it.

If we want to go with more classic VG music, which is to say Chip Tunes, then I have to give a nod to Anamanaguchi's work on the Scott Pilgrim game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wduS15Bv-Bg), and, of course, Chemical Plant Zone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LYB7iLZNWE) for being one of the first chip tunes that didn't make my ears bleed.

And of course The Opera Scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuvSDedrtKM#t=0m36s) deserves a mention.

You all should be ashamed for not already having Clash on the Big Bridge. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CMTXyExkeI) Easily one of the best themes in all of Final Fantasy.

FFX-2's title song is really pretty, too. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjOEl-sAsjw&fmt=18)

Most of the music in Nier is really slow. Like most game music, the point of Nier's soundtrack is to set the scene and create an atmosphere, and after a certain point in the game the purpose of every scene in Nier is to be emotionally manipulative. The music fits that, but the number of songs that are actiony and fast paced is small, and while I generally enjoy them, they tend to be the weaker songs on the soundtrack. That said, while not really fast, Blu-Bird (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C0-D1BiOBA) is a really solid boss fight song. I love the vocals they did for it.

Another cool detail about the music in Nier is that there is only one song where the vocals are in an actual language. (Ashes of Dreams / New) The other lyrics are all technically gibberish. However, the lady who wrote the vocals for at least some of the songs based them all on actual languages, with the exception of The Wretched Automatons. Example: There's a version of Ashes of Dreams that sounds like it's in French, but isn't. This is intentional. Despite appearances, Nier is supposed to take place in the distant future, and the idea was that these songs are in future versions of these various languages. Pretentious? Yes, and it's still gibberish, but as an idea it's really cool, and execution sounds beautiful. She's a fantastic vocalist.

Obligatory Otherworld mention complete.I think I've said it before, but Final Fantasy X really does have the best soundtrack of the franchise, in my honest opinion.

Chrono Cross.

I can't really pick any one song as the best.

Really? I always thought the intro song and Magical Dreamers/Nikki's song were way above the quality of everything else in it.

I really like these two Chrono Cross songs mentioned above, but Super Bomberman 2's world 1 song is very nice. Also: Pretty much every Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3 music. Specially the final boss song of the first.

Seriously though, how did the Final Fantasy theme not get a mention? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQwAxMiKHPo)

But, I gotta say, the one I like most? Meridian Child (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rV1wgR7ooVs) from Seiken Densetsu 3. Like FF's main theme, it plays after the start-ish of the game, when you're just starting out and for whatever reason, I just really, really like it. Maybe it's the transition from sad to upbeat - which, in the game, was accompanied with your character being troubled and then heading out to find a way to fix everything - that does it, I'm not sure.

Level 5 from Super Earth Defense Force (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNPBpu_KA20) remains some of the best vg music I've ever heard.

The ending theme of Mega Man X (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGs4wGi63DA) (from start to about 2:00) was also really good. It fit the mood very well, I thought.

Guild Wars has some pretty kick ass music, such as this one here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhvA3b6Q7Xc&feature=related). It's hard to pick a favourite, but you can't go wrong when Jeremy Soule is the composer.

Speaking of Mr. Soule, I also very much enjoyed his work on Secret of Evermore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YMEu9aO8QA).

Does anyone remember Advent Rising? It was a pretty middling game, but by god did it have one of the best video game soundtracks I have ever heard in my life. IN MY LIFE.

I can appreciate the original, but if we know anything about Final Fantasy music it's that it's is all about building on past success (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzdYjSeOObQ).

As for me though, you could probably pic about any son from Megaman 9 or actually VVVVVV has (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xk6cLB9hWd0) some (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6tpnFbBeZY) nice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpmh3mQnEkQ) ones (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbMhgkilaBg). But these are both examples that are limited to 8-bit-esc sounds. I think Final Fantasy Tactics and the Xeno series (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ6ufAOSUhM) still offer some of my favorites. That's plenty enough links for now though.

Also more Scott Pilgrim (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TANhL8H6Kok). I'm siting that particular track, but the whole thing is pretty excellent.

Edit but to be serious I like this
The opened path (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3PRXFLJYcw) - Shadow of the colossus...It moves me to tears. Its both epic but there is a depressing tone to it.
No cake for you (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8KFh_-P98E) - porta.l Honestly I didn't even know this song was in game till I went looking for it. It plays so sudlely and fits your emotions at the time so well it's almost invisible. BTW it's in the "CCube room."

I like the music that's in MM2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiT_3kwgvwQ&feature=player_detailpage#t=105s) & MM4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkVWge_H4h4&feature=player_detailpage#t=156s) that's used after the animated portion of both credits. (The YouTubes I've linked start at the specific point in the ending I'm talking about.)

I'd love to hear a remix of either, but I calling them the end credits always links me to the music that plays during the animated portion of the credits, not what I'm thinking of.

You're looking for the Mega Man "Staff Roll", not the end credits. They get counted as different songs I guess. OCR has one for Megaman 2 but it's not very recognizable to the original and it's much more mellow, so it's probably not what you're looking for.
